Since I started painting I noticed a few things, which the color choice does not govern:

What about the armour (shoulder pads, etc.)?
What about the numbers? What color should the be, where should they be placed?

But most importantly: How should we do the base???

Here are my suggestions, open to discussion:
Armour: Pick what ever you think suits your model the best.
Number: The number should be on the bases, the color should have a high contrast to the base color.

Base color: I would suggest to pick some kind of a swamp/jungle theme. For the base color I propose either Camo green or snakebite leather.
Let's have a discussion about that Smile

by the way, I found some good examples for orange/yellow/black lizards...they are called fire lizards in Germany...that also were I got the pictures from: www.feuersalamander.com

Tojurub.. thought I'd better remind you of this post by crazy goblin girl in the last thread...

""The cheerleader I'm doing is going to be a conversion with bits from my bitz box so I don't need a mini for "her".

Sadly I don't think I've got any spare whole lizards around (many heads from the plastic set though), though I'll have a double check.

I was going to convert the Kroxigor any how so if need be I can work from any bits folks have lying around... scales can be green stuffed on so I can work from just a torso, legs, arms (all big sized but it doesn't really matter what they are from - rat ogre/kroxigor... something big) and a head would be nice, just need the basis of chunky, sharp teeth. He'll look like he's from some funky spawning but I'll make him fit. So I'll work from that or a whole mini... whatever is needed. ""

She was basically asking for bits to make the Kroxi... without help she can't do one.

Thought I'd better give you a heads up as she's asleep right now.. (being pregnant again is tiring her out)

So just to recap.. she needs something she can base the kroxi on... a rat ogre would be possible... or a actual kroxigor.. Warhammer or BB doesn't matter which.
There is a possible last resort, but she'd like to know if someone out there could help out first, as it may or maynot work.

let us know.

Oh and on a side note I'm starting 00 this week.. heh.

I was planning to do a jungle/swap kind of base for the figure, so count me in on that one.
Concerning the amour then I would suggest something like purple since it goes very well together with the coise of colour.

oh my....I misunderstood that somehow. I think if I'll ask OMM to order a Kroxigor he's going to hate me Embarassed I'll find something for her. I hope she can start working on the cheerleader until I got a solution.

SORRY!!!! Confused

@all:
Ok....any comments on the base problem?

I, for one, am a compleet newbie to basing beyond a lick of paint. I'll give anything a go though Smile

As for the colour I think the green option would look best.
Tojurub - Jul 04, 2005 - 01:43 PM
Post subject:
@mepmuff: did Draco give you your mini yet?....also what shade of green were you thinking about? light green, dark green, olive green, scorpion green, goblin green,.....?
Mepmuff - Jul 04, 2005 - 01:55 PM
Post subject:
No mini here yet, but I haven't seen Draco which might explain things Smile I'll get it, I'm sure. As for which green... No idea Razz I just think that in general brown will make it easier to screw up the base. Green would be more forgiving. I think a dark tone of green would give the best swamp/jungle look. We should be careful it doesn't clash with grass/swamp-grass/jungle-trees though.
Musta_Surma - Jul 05, 2005 - 03:57 AM
Post subject:
Concerning the base, then try to have a look here at this page:
http://www.jenova.dk/

I was thinking to make some swamp/sand base, with a mixture of green and brown and some texture.
I think it would be better to leave the question about the base for everybody to do as they please as long as its kind of swamp like.
Tojurub - Jul 05, 2005 - 12:04 PM
Post subject:
I agree with the top side of the base....I was more concerned about the ring part around the base.....it would be good if we all use a similar (or maybe the same color)
Crazy_Goblin_Girl - Jul 06, 2005 - 04:12 AM
Post subject:
The current White Dwarf (Issue 307) has a nice simple way of doing a water effect in the back (p140 for anyone who's looking) ... sand or gravel would work fine as ozzing water is always good (going through a Nurgle phaze in my basing atm) plus with a couple bits of static grass or flock added it would look fine as swampy.

As for the base edging I'd personally suggest Scorched Brown or a 50/50 mix of Scorched Brown/Dark Angels Green. I've found that a brown ring round the base makes the models stand out more. (as in you don't look at the base first... "ooh GREEN"... then look at the model on top.)

Apologises if this sounds confusing and for any other confusing posts... there's a mini Goblin on the way and my head can be a bit muddled... everyone wins in disscussions with me atm. Embarassed (& BB games - abysmal set ups due to complete lack of concentration on tactics... I blame the goblins)

I'll do up some demo bases (got loads spare) and post them here to show folks what I mean. (might take a day or two but they'll be here asap.
Melifaxis - Jul 06, 2005 - 07:57 AM
Post subject:
We've got loads of time. We could have one person, if she's willing Wink , do up all the bases and send one package to each country and then distribute from there. Then the individual coaches could number them and pop their names on them. Would look very nice, but there is a minor expense involved. Thoguhts?
Tojurub - Jul 06, 2005 - 10:32 AM
Post subject:
Not a bad idea, actually a pretty good one.....I think I can add a little to it: How about all finished bases (if a certain girl is willing to do that Wink ) can be send to me, I will number them and put everybodies name on them and when you guys are done with your mini (without the base), send them to me, and I will put the minis on the base.

Any comments on that.

Oh....Goblingirl....if it helps to jump on htis idea, I'd be willing to take over your Kroxigor....just an offer, but if you want to do all of it, you're welcome Smile

...and most importantly....best of luck with your little goblin....when is it due?
SBG - Jul 06, 2005 - 04:13 PM

Although this is a good idea, I'd rather see Crazy Goblin Girl post some pics and a how to and try myself at it. What better way to learn than to learn from a master? Smile

Ah but Fred, you can paint as many of your own as you'd like for your own lizard team because after I get through with you at Death Bowl you'll want to retire those CD's Wink

I am not sure how Crazy Goblin Girl is painting but is sounds to me that its very good, but I feel that the figure would loose a personal touch if I did not do the entire figur myself including the base. Therefor I support the how to do suggestions and then try it out myself.
It could be good if we could agree on the colour for the ring.

Just my train of thoughts.
Zinak - Jul 07, 2005 - 04:57 AM

I agree .... I think that we should all paint up the entire figure including that base. I like the fact that wilth so may painter the models will each have alittle different look to them. Now this is just my opion and will do what ever the group wants todo.

Ok...let's get bacl on topic here: what color should the base ring be? We had the suggestion of green and also brown

I'll do the cheerleader up and show you how I did the base, make some step by step stuff once colour and texture... (swampy, sandy etc) ...All this once the base itself is aggreed on of course.

Personally I'm going for scorched brown or a 50/50 dark angels green/scorched brown mix... (still gotta test it... in fact probly will do in a sec and edit this post Mr. Green )

My painting standard is shown in the link below, I would hope I can do a lizard justice as well... orange & black is gonna be tough.

Sorry to hear of Tojurub's troubles, I hope they're resolved with a minimum of pain.

Just what still needs to be done on the organizing side? If all the minis have been shipped out, is it just a matter of receiving the paintined ones and posting their pictures here for voting and sending the team to the winner? If it is, I would be willing to do that, although if a majority of participants are from one country, it might be more practical for someone from that country to be the new organizer.
Grasshopper - Jul 20, 2005 - 11:01 AM
Post subject:
Jellyroll makes a valid point. I'd Volunteer for it but I'll be moving soon, and owing a piece to a team due to that chaos is one thing... screwing the pooch for the whole event over it, I'd nay forgive myself for.
Musta_Surma - Jul 21, 2005 - 02:31 AM
Post subject:
What is missing is to end the vote of the colour to which is to be used for the ring of the base.

All figurs should be in the hands of all the participants, so I think Boblo_Jellyroll you are head on with what is missing to be done, collecting the figs when they are all painted within the deadline and find a winner and a happy owner of this team and ship it to him or her.

I counted the votes for the colour of the ring and it came out that black had most votes.

Just a heads up,
I still haven't received a Saurus yet. I believe tojorub was going to have Old Man Monkey mail one to me. I had PM'd my address to Tojorub, but can certainly send it again to whomever takes over the organizing.
Tojurub - Jul 25, 2005 - 10:35 AM
Post subject:
Hello everybody,
sorry about the confusion, but Draco said it right. Due to personal trouble I would ask somebody else to take over the organisation of the leagcy team.

Whoever hasn't received their mini (should be Sturmjarl, DarkDancer, CrazyGoblinGirl: I asked OMM to send the remaining minis out to each of these persons, he has the address of them. Just give it a few more days.

I think since the majority of the participants is in Europe, so I would suggest to have an organisator from there.

I don't know what will happen to me, that's why I need to give up the job, which I loved to do. My mini is almost ready (just the base is missing) and I will send it to the new organizer.

What is left is: collect the minis no later than October, ask Jervis, Andy, or maybe the NAF-prez to do the drawing and then ship the team to the lucky winner.

Thanks

Little late bonus for the lucky winner, I can always mail it direct after the draw if necessary.

There is no "post office" per se, there's the corperation, Canada Post who does the delivery, but the postal outlets are frrancised out and are found in drugstores, etc. so a postal outlet will be open during the same hours as the store inwhich it is located. I just had an idea.....I think it's a brilliant idea, but my opinion might be a little biased Wink

Can every participant write a paragraf about their mini? Some fluff about where the player/coach/cheeleader has hatched where he grew up and how he was hired by the team....mayeb some "minor league" stats to support the reasons might be nice...also give your player a name, maybe even a nickname.

I would like to use that for the story for the Fanatic magazine.

you can either PM me the thing, or e-mail or just write it in here Smile

There is no limit lengthwise. I really don't want to have a 10-page abstract of each player, but I also want a little more than two sentences

Dendrolatus "The Bastard", #34:
Reptiles have unique ways of protecting themselves; for example, some lizards can lose their tails, chameleons employ camouflage, and turtles have hard, protective shells. But, Dendrolatus was just cruel from the moment of his oviparous birth.

At an early age, he was nicknamed, The Bastard, for his multi-patterned appearance. He didnt care. Soon he began to appreciate the name as it encouraged fear in those he bullied. His brute strength and passion for inflicting pain upon others protected him in his youth, and eventually landed him on Sotek's Scutes, a minor league Blood Bowl franchise.

The pitch became an instant home to Dendrolatus. He reveled in the glory of battle, and set a league record fourteen deaths by block and foul in his first season. But, he was often critiqued for overlooking the existence of the ball. In several instances he left it at his feet and ran off to blitz down an opposing player. "Handling the ball is for skinks," he would often insist. Then, one day the unthinkable happened.

As he barreled towards a tiny skink to relieve him of his life, the skink panicked and threw the ball. As it streaked towards his face, instinct took over and Dendrolatus' hands flashed upwards to grab the ball. He tucked it under his arm instinctively, as he had seen so many others do, and sent the skink to the sidelines on a stretcher. What happened next still confuses him somewhat as there were still other opponents on their feet. He streaked into the endzone and spiked the ball into the face of a nearby fan.

The glory of his first touchdown overwhelmed Dendrolatus, and opened his eyes to another aspect of gameplay. As his scoring statistics began to rise, so did the interest of scouts for more noteworthy squads. It was only a matter of time before he would earn his place on a team of legend; after all it was his legacy...

#14 Lippzzstik "Dotty" Darungula:

It was on a nice summer day when Lippzzstik hatched. His parents lived close to a small community Blood Bowl stadium and it happened quite frequently that pig-bladder-objects, halfings and goblins came through the window and more than once hit little "Dotty" in his nest. He basically came up with his own nickname, because in his native tounge "Dat'z teezz" means "broken glass" and whenever an inaccurate pass ended up in his room he told his parents about it. His lingual skills where not that evolved yet, so he just said "Dotty" and his parents stuck with it.

Having that stadium so close, it was obvious that curious Dotty wanted to know where to return these flying objects to. So he watched the local guys practise on a regular basis and learned a lot. When he got into high school he immediatelly became a star due to his complete understanding of the rules, the strategy and of course all the dirty tricks. As a freshman he scored a record of 27 TD during an 12 game season. As a sophomore he even topped that with 35 TD for the season. During the next two years he became THE allround talent of the school with records set for TD, Completions and Interceptions. Somehow he managed to get never hurt in any game during his entire career (some gossips have it that he never got into blocking at all).

Some scouts from the top leagues couldn't miss a talent like him and the offers skyrocketed when he got out of school. Since then he played for 5 different teams and each year his stats got better and better ...then the most anticipated call came: playing with the legends in THE Lizardmanteam of all times.....

Thanks for the compliment Embarassed Very Happy I'm just glad he arrived safely and is DONE! I really just did as quick a job as possible under the time constraints. Realized I couldn't really do the "striped/spotted theme" with so little skin showing plus the scales (although Mel did a GREAT job on his Saurus!). The "more-amphibious" skinks lend themselves more towards that style. So I just wemt with the orange with drastic yellow highlights and black scales to best match the team. First time painting orange over black Confused That and the royal; blue clothing really tied in nicely I think.
I'm not really into the fluff unfortunately Embarassed Sad . If anyone wants to give my fig a back-story, that would be fine for all you "word-smiths" Worship . The only idea I had was a disgraced Palaquin bearer with "fumblitis" (whoops-"Sorry Mr. Slann mage-priest") who reluctantly joins the squad in hopes of regaining his honor-guard status. You writers can take it from there. Very Happy Worship Idea Worship
