Underworld Cup, the Rule of Matie

Following the last underworld cup, Beastmode finally had a drug induced schizophrenic break which destroyed what little sanity he had left. He began to roam the country side searching for his next score of warpstone. He would eat goblins just to try and get a contact buzz. The underworld goblins, though used to occasionally being eaten by Trolls, finally had enough. Beastmode would devour whole towns at a time and though prolific, the goblins had a hard time keeping up. They formed a coalition with the underworld Skaven to try and overthrow Beastmode, but the alliance fell apart due to the animosity between the races. The citizens of Underworld were desperate, was there no one who could save them from their plight?!?!?
A call came out throughout the land for a hero. No heroes were to be found. But someone did respond; and that someone was a giant two headed transvestite Ettin who went by the name of Matie. Dressed in a flannel loin cloth and matching flannel bra, he/she was a sight to behold. One head was known as Rowdy KT; the other Valdric, who went by his middle initial, M, because his first name was too hard for him to say. One must always speak slowly, and it small words when speaking to M. KT was the controlling head for the most part. She was known for her aggressive play calling and brilliant strategies coaching blood bowl, both of which she managed with grace and style. M was known for his love of chemistry, and, oddly enough, Halflings (much to the horror of the Halflings).
When Matie came to underworld, he/she knew that it would be no easy fight. Beastmode was insanely powerful, and brute force alone would not win the day, but KT had an idea. She whispered it to M…repeatedly…over the course of several days…and drew diagrams…and at one point had a puppet show…but finally M understood and they went to work. M designed an antidote to Warpstone called Warpstone Injectable Narcan (WIN). The only problem was how to deliver it. By this time Beastmode had heard of the potential usurper and called them out to meet him on the pitch for a final showdown. Crowds gathered in anticipation. Beastmode entered from East, and Matie from the West, carrying a large satchel over their shoulder and an oil drum of Diet Coke in the other. Beastmode began to roar and pump himself up. All of the sudden, Matie dropped the bag and began to pull out Halflings and started to throw them at Beastmode. He caught several of them, ate a few, and crushed the rest. A few, however, manages to get through his defense, and unknown to Beastmode, carried syringes of WIN which they were able to inject into him. Beastmode immediately went into Warpstone withdrawl. He got the shakes, the chills, and started losing fluid from every orifice. He was significantly weakened, but still ridiculously strong.
The ensuing fight was epic. In the end, the two powerful beings were locked, arm to arm, neither seeming to be able to get the upper hand. Matie was beginning to weaken, and the WIN was starting to wear off. Suddenly, a deep, loud voice sounded from the team entrance. “BEASTMODE!!!”, “You have dishonored the Forty-Miners for the last time.” It was Golden-Toe Joe! Locked in battle with Matie, Beastmode was unable to move, and Joe took a running start and launched a kick right between Beastmodes legs that ended in a resounding “crack,” then silence. Most of the males within 20 miles began to vomit, just at the sound. Beastmode finally fell over, never to rise again.
Golden-Toe Joe, left the stadium, wanting nothing to do with this awful place, so the citizens cheered for Matie who helped them to rid the kingdom of the rule of Beastmode. They held a festival to celebrate the coronation of their new King/Queen, and held a blood bowl tournament in their honor. The tournament was called, “The Rule of Matie.”
Below is the kick-off table that will be utilized during the tourney.

2. We don’t need no stinking refs- Upset at what the refs allowed to occur last year (An enraged psychopathic dwarf running around the field, and they don’t stop play…seriously?!?!), the fans are out for revenge. Each team gets a bribe, which represents the refs trying to get out of the restraints that the fans put him in. When a bribe is used, a roll of a 1 means that the ref gets out and ejects the player. On anything else, he remains tied up long enough to miss the call.

3. Riot – The crowd is so excited that the rule of Beastmode is over, they riot chanting “long live Matie”. The ref loses track of time as he tries to calm the rioters. If the receiving team has not yet taken a turn this half the referee lets the clock run on and both teams turn markers are moved forward one space. If it is turn 8, move the markers back one space. Otherwise roll a D6. On a 1-3, both teams turn markers are moved forward one space. On a 4-6, both teams turn markers are moved back one space.

4. Defense wins championships – KT shares some of her defensive genius with the kicking team. The Kicking coach may reorganize his players into another legal defense.

5. The Kick of Golden-Toe Joe– Inspired by the regicidal kick of Golden-Toe Joe, the kicker on the kicking team really lets the ball have it. As a result, the kick goes unusually high, allowing a player on the receiving team, not in a tackle zone, to run under it and attempt to catch it.

6. Matie’s Chef – In an attempt to imitate the Halfling Chef, M creates a concoction to inspire his chosen team and distract the opposition. Roll a D3 plus FAME and Cheerleaders. The winning teams coach the rolls a D6. On a 1-2, the creation is gruel and nothing happens. On a 3-4, the opposing team is distracted and loses a re-roll. On a 5-6, the winning team gets pumped up and gains a re-roll.

7. Weather change – Matie’s two heads cannot decide on the weather, re-roll it.

8. Two heads are better than one - Roll a D3 and add Fame and Coaches. The team with the highest score sneaks a small Ettin onto the field to help them coach. As a result, that team gets a bonus re-roll for the half. At the end of the half, Matie notices the other Ettin and destroys it…there can be only one.

9. Underworld shuffle – Due to instability of the field, a tremor shakes the field. This allows the receiving team to move each of their players one space before the snap and not be caught be the ref.

10. Blitz –The Kicking team is inspired by Matie’s athletic prowess and attempts to impress them by catching the receiving team flat footed. The kicking team takes a bonus ‘turn’ but may not move anyone in a tackle zone, and may only move 3 players total.

11. Throw a corpse – The fans, thrilled at the death of Beastmode, hurl his corpse onto the field. Each team rolls a D6 and adds their FAME. The corpse in thrown onto the pitch on the losing player’s side. Use traditional kick off scatter rules, the winning player decides the starting location. The following exceptions apply. Kick skill does not apply. Beastmode CAN cross midfield. If he goes out of bounds, the crowd gets angry and throws him back in. The loosing player then gets to place Beastmodes corpse and “kick” as before. If Beastmode hits a player, that player’s armor is automatically broken, roll strait for injury, and scatter Beastmode. Where ever Beastmode comes to rest, he remains there as an obstacle for the remainder of the drive because he is too big to move off without heavy equipment. He does not exert tackle zones, and cannot be moved in any way. As a rotting corpse, beastmode does exert the skill “disturbing presence” while dead on the field. If a player is pushed into Beastmode, treat it as being hit into a wall per streetbowl rules (down in the present square and +1 to the armor roll).

12. Let’s get Rowdy (KT) – Inspired by their new Queen, one teams fans take to the pitch to impress her by trying to beat up the other team. Both coaches roll a D6 for each opposing player on the pitch and add their FAME to the rill. If a roll is 6 or more after modification then the player is Stunned.

All stunty teams(Ogres, gobbos, flings, lizzies minus saurus and underworld minus skaven) will receive an extra 100k to build their team and then an extra 50k for skills on round one(total of 120k round one rather than 70k). All three expansion teams are allowed.

Team Builds
1.05 mil team build (players, rerolls, fanfactor, all inducements allowed) Let me know ahead of time if you plan on using cards so I can have them available. Your card will change after each round that it is used.

After team is made:

Before round 4: Add 150k
Before round 5: Add 150k

No player may recieve more than one upgrade per round(you could have 5 on one player by round 5, but not on round 1). Money may be "banked" from round to round. No player may recieve more than two of the same stat upgrade. Rerolls bought after initial team build do not cost double. Each coach will add the assigned value(70/110/110/150/150) to their roster for each round prior to round one. Please note on your roster the round skills are added. The excel spreadsheet that allow additions of skills 1-5 is preferable. Please print two copies of your roster for each round. One of each round will be given to the tournament organizer and you will keep one. The tournament organizer will hand back your roster copy for each round for your opponent to use as reference.

Note: You may bank the money from one round to the next. So, you could save all your money from the first round and use the 110k from the next round to buy a 190k star that will remain on the roster for the rest of the tourney. You will just be handicapped on the first round and there will be no inducements added if there is a Team Rating differential due to banking money. You may not bank any money from the original 1.05mil roster construction. You must start with a rulebook legal roster including 11 players. This could include star players.

Assuming all inducements includes rostered Star Players, correct? If so, is an 11-player roster required prior to adding Star Players?

No, a star can be part of the 11 man roster. You can also add stars later with the extra cash each round.

Hey, everyone! I saw a lot of the people who are coming at Chaos Cup this past weekend. We had an opportunity to hype upcoming tournaments during the awards ceremony but I was so brain-dead from six amazing games of Blood Bowl that I spaced on the opportunity. So, Sol kindly agreed to let me do a short plug here.

On the weekend after Underworld Cup (November 15-16) I am running the fourth annual Blingtoof's Gitbash tournament at Black Knight Games in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (approximately 30 miles west of Toronto). It's a goblin-themed tournament where the name of the game is FOULING. By definition, whoever gets the most "fouling points" (1 point for a stun, 2 for a KO, 4 for a casualty) is the second-place winner at Blingtoof's Gitbash regardless of your tournament record. It would be awesome to have some more mid-westerners make the trek up. I'll end this plug here to keep it short but for more information check out the "Blingtoof's Gitbash 4" thread on the NAF, go to www.blingtoof.com, or e-mail me directly at blingtoof@engler.ca.

Thanks, one and all!
