Rules Questions - bouncing balls and pushing into a ball

Post subject: bouncing balls and pushing into a ball
In the last game we played we came across a situation we were not sure.

One of my players succesfully blitzed an opponent's ballcarrier. The ball scattered beside my player. Subsequently, one of my players moved to try and pick up the ball, and failed. The ball then bounced into the square where my first blitzing player was...if the roll to catch the ball is succesfull can I still continue with my turn (even though the player with the ball cannot do anything else), or is it a turnover?

Also, does the ball occupy a square? I push a player, and of the three possible squares he can go one is taken by another player, the other has the ball, and the other is empty. Can I push into the square with the ball and then scatter the ball?

Failing to pick up a ball is always a turnover even if your team ends up holding the ball.

You can push opponents onto the ball and force it to scatter. The reference to pushing to an "empty square" means empty of players, the ball is not big enough to prevent pushbacks, but it will always scatter.

i thought the ball counted as an occupied square.

Even though the player who blitzed ended up with the ball, the *key* is that the player who *tried* to pickup the ball failed. Thus, a turnover *has* occurred.

You can choose to push the player into the empty square *or* the square that the ball is in. If you choose the latter, the ball automatically scatters (the player being pushed does not have an opportunity to pick it up - he's too busy being blocked).

Bevan is right, the square with the ball is considered empty. Always has been.
