but if the thrower was even a single square to the right, the Interceptor (wadda powerful player!) came to be not "between thrower and receiver" anymore, because his position left him behind receiver, with respect of the throw direction.

As I understand it both 1 & 2 are eligable to intercept.

However in that situation 1 can intercept, but 2 cannot as he is slightly behind, and not "level".
