Post subject: Nurgle starting team for a league
This will be my first time using Nurgle's Rotters, so any input would be appreciated.

My starting team, at the moment, is:

1 * Beast of Nurgle
1 * Rotter
9 * Beastman
2 * Rerolls
9 * Fanfactor

And I think that I need to arrange to play a couple of early games against skaven or something with equally weak armour in the hope that I can get a couple of free rotters. Mmmmm.

Are the tactics for Nurgle different to normal Chaos tactics?

What skills/traits would you aim for with the beast?

For the Beast I'd go with

Diving Catch, Jump Up, & Pass! Laughing

Sorry, honestly I don't know, I play Skaven, I don't know what tactics to use for bashy teams.

For the beast I would go with pile on and razor sharp claws and block. That way when you knock him down you pile on and casue casulties faster and get better shots at killing someone.

Also use the same tactics that you would use for a chaos team. The roster looks good as well.

I'm not sure you know the tactics to use for skaven either! Laughing

Well I'd like to argue that Zombie, but my record so far in tournies agrees with you! Embarassed

Although my buddy last night in a league game (who finnished 6th out of 28 at the 2004 Canadian Open with his Orcs) Lost to my Skaven 6-2.

I just can't do anything in tourney play!

I agree with Rottweilerrme; Razor Sharp Tentacles would be useful for the beast, as would block.

what about dirty player Laughing

this might sound dumb but becasue the nurgle rotters having 9 fan factor he can get the ref and make unlimited fouls with dirty player and get a rotter in the process

just a suggestion Embarassed

The 9 FF will not come into play if the rest of the league are not newbies and went for 9 FF as well.

Just getting as Nurgle team myself now, and so have a vested interest in this discussion!

I would try leaving the Beastie off of the front line and see if you can pin down a gutter runner, catcher, or somthing equally dodgy and squishy and then get the beast over to him. Once there, the chance of those slippery players getting away is pretty slim. The only way they are getting away is on a stretcher!

Other than that, if it moves, hit it!

Sure hands (or big hand) for a beastman is a good move, as the free re-roll is invaluable!

Surprise Announcement
The Plaguelands (FP) - In a surprising announcement, head coach Melifaxis has reneged on his contract with Da Deth Dealerz, and signed a one-year deal with The Festering Legion. The devoted fan base of the Legion refer to themselves as the Lesionnaires; most likely due to the growing number of lesions that soon consume their flesh. Will the maneuver cost Head Coach Melifaxis his third consecutive HBBL Championship? There's only one way to find out!

A spokesorc from Smirnorc Ice could not be reached for comment.

Ok, I thought it would be fun to go with rotters for our next season, plus I just feel like painting them now anyways. I'll put together a strategy document after the season is all said and done next year. I was finally going to re-paint my orcs too... Rolling Eyes

First game under my belt vs. Grasshopper's CD's.

Note to self: DON'T FORGET TO MAKE YOUR REGENERATE ROLLS!!!!!!!! Rolling Eyes

No players eligible for a new skill, but now 3 could get it with the next MVP.

I'm thinking of having another trundle with a Nurgle side.

They don't play like Chaos, although they are of course similar. The chief differences are:

- Chaos Warriors can handle the ball and dodge, Rotters can't. I suspect this difference is much in favour of Chaos.

- All that Foul Appearance makes for a better defence against passing and hand-off plays.

- The Beast is better than other Big Guys at marking 2 or 3 opponents (because of Tentacles). I find him perhaps the best Big Guy.

In terms of team development, the chief problem I found with a Nurgle side is the lack of Apothecary. You spend all your money replacing Beastmen, and therefore never get to buy any more Rotters (or the Beast). So I'm thinking of going with the following (which would probably make a decent tournament side too):

4 Rotters
8 Beastmen
1 Re-roll
1 Fan Factor

In this way at least you get a better chance to develop skills on the Rotters, which is not easy (as any coach of Black Orcs will tell you). And you max out on AV, Foul Appearance and Regeneration.

A variant of the above for the brave is:

1 Beast
4 Rotters
6 Beastmen
1 Re-roll
2 Fan Factors

Hope this helps.

Cheers

IMO One reroll is not going to work - no block, no ball handling.

I'd never take a 1 or 2 FF in a league, but in a tourney I would.

Well, I am a fan of Re-rolls, and I also thought that a minimum of 2 Re-rolls was essential for a Nurgle side, so I started with:

1 Beast
1 Rotter
9 Beastmen
2 Re-rolls
9 Fan Factor

However, what happened was that I lost Beastmen at at least as fast a rate as I could replace them, and so lost most of my matches due to numerical disadvantage. I don't feel I was particularly unlucky on casualties - the death and casualty rates were around the average of what I have come to expect. I felt I would have been even more doomed in a longer league, as the niggling injury rate was slowly rising.

I suggest that for this side you need to find a balance between Re-rolls and toughness. The side I took in a short league didn't seem tough enough. Deploying Beastmen on the LOS is asking for CAS, especially from fouls.

I love this side, but the lack of Apothecary is a defining feature, and you have to account for it in a league. I think this means starting with at least 12 players and at least 3 tough guys. Unfortunately, with the price of Rotters being what it is, this means 1 Re-roll.

And bear in mind, I would never normally recommend starting with just 1 Re-roll.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Well, I lost my second game, but it was absolutely due to some poor decisions on my part and one bad die roll (skull, skull, both down). However, the die roll wouldn't have mattered if I had made the right coaching moves first...head just wasn't in the game...

Rolled +STR on a rotter though Very Happy
