Very Happy
Hi guys,
Glad to be a member of the NAF. I am getting ready to paint my Chaos Dwarves but I don't want the normal Black and Red. I was thinking of Red and Bone color. Any suggestions?
AnthonyTBBF - Feb 11, 2003 - 06:24 PM
Post subject:
That will look really good, especially if you use a deep red.
Squiggoth - Feb 12, 2003 - 01:15 AM
Post subject:
Just don't paint the scalemail red - red scalemail makes a Chaos Dwarf look like a strawberry Wink

I've always thought purple would look good, esp. if it is quite dark. Gold trim, shaded to reinforce the dark look, would go nicely too.

but I've never actually tried it Wink

Nah, I'd go for something fiery to go with their volcanic magic-theme and all... Dark red?
...I'll paint up Htarrk the Unstoppable soon, let's see if I can get him volcanic Wink

Dark Blues look good on Chaos Dwarves as does a good puple with a purple ink over the top. Trim them with something contrasting and away you go.

I have 1 Chaos Dwarf figure in my standard Dwarf league team. He's called 'Dirty' and is a real target for the opposition despite the fact he has no extra skills. He is painted (along with the other dwarves) Pale Blue and White. Looks good.

Blue and white ey? I remember having painted a Chaos Dwarf team for a friend once, also in blue and white... Wow, I was young and reckless then Wink

Thanks guys for all the advice. I may do a test run of one dark red and bone, and one of purple and a non-metallic gold, using vomit brown.

Hi.

I used a very dark red for mine. The armour is painted in blackened bronze. The Hobgoblins use some elements of bronze and dark-red but are mainly field-gray. All in all the team looks great, but some say that it's lacking the typical Bloodbowl-style. But the darkened bronze really rocks!

I hate doing dark colour-schemes for BB. Teams should all have nice bright colours. Even teams and countries people may consider 'dark' in real life have bright and visible colour schemes for their football teams.

Dark is fine in WH but not for BB.

Hey .. just my 2 gold pieces.
I'll get me cloak.

Tim - Feb 13, 2003 - 09:49 AM

My Chaos Dwarfs use bronze armour and hats, dark red (scab red), leather gloves and several tones of browns/leather on the hobgoblins.

Just a tiny glimpse of gold on the head coach and Hthark.

After all i went for a dirty, dark, right-from-the-mines look. I'm not into clean and shining Blood Bowl teams, esp. for players like hobgoblins. Of course this is a matter of taste anyway.

Pictures will be there some day (and a live perfomance at the blood bowl).

Tim.

Anyway, I've been thinking on a CD colour scheme (with very big hats, as Big Htas Rule!!! Smile) and I think I'll do something with red marble, white marble and bronze (yeah, marble hats! As if they aren't heavy enough already... all my Dwarfs will get twisted spines!)

He's the standard minotaur SP, Grashnak Blackhoof, painted up in his Zorn Uzkul finest. I had to put him on the squad after painting him, even though he has Wild Animal...

Well, I think I've decided on a colour scheme for my Naughty Gnomes! It'll be fiery red and ashy grey, painted in some way to resemble volcanic eruptions. And I won't be using the official BB-Chaos Dwarfs since I've got way too many fantasy battle Chaos Dwarfs just waiting to be chopped up Smile

Oh, and the bases will be done with patches of vulcanic eruption too, off course (nothing beats a good eruption to get rid of your opponents...)

Yup, the paint job is sweet but I'm gonna convert my Fantasy Battle Chaos Dwarfs. For some strange reason their hands aren't twice the size of their hats Wink
And there's also a FB Bull Centaur with a metal glove which makes a perfect BB Centaur!
Now all I have to do is find me some Hobgoblin players...

Oh and Darkson... Any ideas for vulcanic pitches? Wink

Here's how I'd make a volcanic pitch. In fact this is how I plan to make my regular pitch only with grass and dirt instead of rock and lava. Start with foam insulation, line it all out, etc. Cut v-grooves along all of the lines so the squares all become 3D. On the lines defining the line of scrimmage, wide zones, and end zone I might not cut those out. Leave those to be painted in. For a volcanic pitch I might use a light craft sand to give the surface of the rocks a bit of texture. If you don't want to use sand for fear of scratching mini's, maybe use a bit of cheap clay smoothed out around the field and shaped to give it a bit of a rock like surface but still flat enough to play on. Paint the grooves in all like lava. You're a better painter than I am so I'm sure you can figure this part out. Paint up the rocky areas black with a dusting of greys to make the rocky areas look cooler and more solid. I made up a quick image below to give a better idea of what I'm thinking.

Looks cool Mr. Green
BTW I don't know how to paint lava, but I painted the cigarettes of my cheer-Orc and 'Ead Koach by "spotty" highlighting Blazing Orange with skully white and it looks quite convincing. Give it a try...
