Post subject: Building a stadium
I am wondering if anybody out there has built their own BB stadium? I know I have seen some pics before, but if anybody can offer any advice, or at least hook me up with a link that could, that would be mucho appreciated!

Any pics of scratch built stadiums, are greatly appreciated!

A bit more searching has yielded success! In fact these links not only show a scratch built BB stadium, but shows you how to make your own step by step! Idea Exclamation

Enjoy!

Over the past few weeks of researching, I have managed to find quite a few pics of scratch-built stadiums, including some rather radical ones! I am currently putting together a group site and will include a photo album of these pics, plus allow others to add their own.

If you can't wait PM me, but the pics will be up soon.

Just make sure you try and get permission from the person who took the photos or the website that's currently hosting them.

Probably goes without saying, but in this day and age, you can never be too careful.

hey spazz, who built the boat on the site? and can we get a build-report/how-to?

The boat was built by Joan Fiander, a member of the group I belong to "Hammers of the North".

I can ask him if he can give a play by play on the building of it. I know that there wasa lot of painstaking work involved - laying each of the coffee stir sticks and then drilling each hole by hand to put the pins in to mark the squares!

I didn't think of trying to use standard square bases as the basis of a pitch actually and then just glue flock over the top - cool idea!

Yeah, that was an excellent idea!

are those in scale? I don't suppose so as each BB case is roughly 29mm...

Realistically, since it is a custom board you could perhaps get away with stating ahead of time that passing may be slightly different than normal and attribute it to some warp-related phenomena (or something equally fluffy). Or, since you made you own pitch, make your own custom passing template...

Not to mention, 390(?) squares is actually pricier than you might think...thanks GW! Evil or Very Mad

BTW, to get 390 40mm bases, you'd buy 25 packs of 16 at $5 per for a total of $125.

Man, I wish Hirst would just make a mold for a 29mm tile, would make life much easier.

Well when life serves you lemons you make lemonade.

So instead of trying to make Hirst fit your needs, you should fit theirs. Make the baord with their tiles, and then adjust the range ruler accordingly. It is only one thing to be adjusted, and easy enough to do.

I hear ya, just need to look around through the forums for the scale of the ruler for making adjustments...

You don't need to do any math or checking about. Just check the range ruler against a regular pitch to check the number of squares it needs to cover. If you enlarge the squares, just enlarge the ruler so that it covers the same number of squares. I think (Off top of head) that for a straight pass, once the hole is on the player, a QP is within 3sq, a SP within another 4sq, a lPL within another 3sq and a LB within a further 3sq.

You could also use the range-table on this site http://www.arosbb.dk/default.asp?p=pr The best site for tabletop tournament tracking if you ask me.. But then again, I haven't used it, only browsed it..

I'm scratch building a decent one this weekend. I normally use paper battle grids (because they're easily portable and simple) but I'll be making a nice one for my league. I'll have to upload some pics somewhere once I finish. I'm using plywood as a base and priming it to make it smooth. On top, I'll layer model train grass/sand for the pitch, and cut some foam to make benches and barriers. Those will of course, also be painted and finished.

EDIT: As far as scale goes, I'm just gridding it in 1 inch by 1 inch squares. Seems to work well with most miniatures, and I built my range ruler and other templates with it.

Our league is trying to build several pitches for publicity - getting more players attracted to the game, and such... Very Happy

I'll post some pics once we get them underway. ;D

The 2e styrofoam pitch was 1" squares. Looked great, but it really was too small. While the bases are 25mm, all the figures overhang them. When you get a scrum of players all together, there's really not enough room. And back in 2e, Big Guys took up 4 squares (and counted as 2 players on the field and on your roster -- all of which I thought worked great!). But now that Big Guys only take 1 square, they would pretty well fill up (9) 1" squares Shocked

29, 30, or even 40mm squares work best since Big Guys have shrunk to occupying 1 square.

I've got a couple of the styrofoam astrogranite pitches, nicely painted up, that don't really work any more Crying or Very sad . Someday, I hope to get enough interest from local players to run a Stunty League that would use these, and go back to a league rule that Big Guys take up 4 squares for this.

Cheers,
Mo

On the Specialist Games Blood Bowl site, there is a reference sheet for passing that includes a grid that clearly marks how many squares there are in each range band. With this tool you never have to have an argument about the passing range ever again. A great tool for the custom pitch maker.
