Post subject: New Tournament pending in Washington
I am currently working with a local store owner here in Washington. The owner of Table Top Games in Lakewood, Wa. is allowing me to run a tournament. I am just worried that when I make the official announcement that there is not going to be enough people showing up.

I am curious if there is any other NAF memebers in Washington that will be able to show up for the Tournament. If I can get a minimal of 6 people then I will make an offical announcement.

I think you'll find support as I'm talking of doing the same thing. Do you know of Ordo Fanaticus? It's a local gaming group who run a message board. I'm talking to Weav from there. He set up the tourney they ran last year. I don't want to take anything from this message board but I'd like to combine our efforts to have a successful tournament.

Check them out and read the thread. See if you can help me get them fired up. There seems to be a sort of fatalist attitude around here. I know that we have the fans of this game, we just need a way to tap into them.

BTW, the thread originally was advertising Iron Mike's tournament in Spokane. Write him and see how he's doing and make an effort to support his go at a tournament.

Here's that link http://www.ordofanaticus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6677

Shadewe, Snots, and other friends in the great NW:

I hesitate to write as I really don't like to put a damper on any tourney activity, YET...

just be sure you are giving yourself enough time. I just hate the idea of rushing a tourney to fruition and then being disappointed because there wasn't enough time for people to plan nor did you give yourselves enough time to get all the details right without being too rushed...

Just a worrisome papa monkey, I guess... and just want you guys to do really really really well...

I agree. What do you think is a good lead time? 2 months? 6? It seems like, if we have good local support it can be easier as well as faster.

I want big but I'm a realist. I'd rather have a smaller, well run tourney than a large shin-dig that is poolry planned and lacks support. If it's fun and runs smoothly, it'll get bigger the next time we do it.

Minimum of 10 weeks - by now for an October date, you should have date and venue nailed, with rules and schedule announced or close to it...

You can probably do very well if there is a strong network among the local players but no matter what, energy is the key! Perhaps banding together behind Iron Mike's tourney is the way to go... only you guys locally can determine that...

If you want to attract people from farther out, a minimum of 6 months planning ahead is better, and i'd say the optimum is 12 months. That was, people can plan their schedule around your tourney and make sure they have days off and the money to attend.

You know I hate that I can't post her from work. Sad

Anyway I understand the problems in it. So I decided to announce the tournament here to be in early december. More than likely on the 4th. This will give me time to get the awards ready and prizes for all. Want to allow a month between Ironmike's and mine.

I talked with the owner of Table Top Games today and we have a date set for the Tournament in Lakewood. It will be on December 4th. Haven't got a name yet. Next week we are going to talk more on it. He is planning on get a Tournament Kit from GW and announcing it to Rogue Trader so that it will be announced in the December issue. That will be release in November. We will work out the entry Fee then too.

I would like any tips that can be given to me and what I need to know so that this can also be sanctioned NAF tournament too.

Sounds like Washington may be the key to getting things going on the west coast.

Good luck to all you guys, maybe next year I can go out that way to play.

Please do not use RTT rules - there are plenty of rulesets available on this site that are far far better than the stock GW tournament rules... if the NAF has been about any one thing in the past eighteen months, it has been about evolving and honing tournaments rules so they are fair and fun for everyone who attends...

I will happily send you several tournament managers and some NAF certificates you might use, all on CD... (you can be the test TO for the NAF Tournament Organizers Kit...)

Just look at the various rulesets for the tourneys listed in the "Tournaments" sections and ask here if you have any questions...

Glad you're going ahead... just post here with any issues or concerns...

I am planning on using a Variation of the rules used at Gencon. Have to make adjustments to have all games played in one day.

It's only 4 games. Use Iron Mike's schedule. It's ambitious but doable.
