North America - Spike! Results

AnthonyTBBF - Sep 20, 2004 - 08:03 AM
Post subject: Spike! Results
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Spike! It turned out to be the biggest event in Canada at 38 people. I hope everyone had a good time and that we have converted a few more people in to tourney regulars Smile

The Spike results will be on the GW site as soon as I get the spread sheet from Ian.

The 2004 Spike! Champion is none other than our local hero Ben Tusim (username Ben). Ben beat league mate and fellow Canadian Kolja Eppert after they both squeaked into the top two spots by the skin of their teeth.

The Battle Bunker League Cup went to Jon Bowers (Grumbledook) whose consistent play earned him the most points after the Spike winner.

I'll post the other awards online with the final standings. One note: we made a bit of a mistake with the fewest TDs allowed award. Glenn Jones earned his award but there were a few people that also had the same score! My apologies for the oversight, if you PM me your mailing address I'll send you a spiffy certificate for your achievement.

Thanks again to everyone and hopefully we'll see you next year.

Really great tourney. I had tons of fun and enjoyed playing all the non-TBBFers.

I also liked how the first 5 games decided who would play in the final championship match and, in addition, there was the Bunker Championship for the 36 other players. There was huge competition during the 5th game to try to get into the championship match, almost like a semifinal.

Great time.

So not to sound too impatient, but when are the NAF Rankings being updated?

Yeah, right - you sound like a virgin on prom night just dying to drop her party dress... Very Happy Wink

The Tournament Organizers are normally asked to enter their results within two weeks... I won't speak for Anthony but I'm pretty confident the Spike results will be entered sooner...

Delays happen for the most part when the TO doesn't get all of the needed info, or has incorrect information, when the NAF signons are entered. The results listing, while tedious, is pretty straightforward - it's the confirmation that every coach is entered and all their information is correct, and corrections when they are needed, that cause the usual delays to the ranking updates.

Plus the continual growth in the number of tournaments has sometimes overburdened the national TOs - the staff is examining some changes to the overall structure to make such tasks easier across the board...

Oh, and congratulations on your super Sunday results - there's been many a time I wish I'd had that kind of second day!!! Well done, Rod!

Yes, give it time Clan Skaven, I'll try to have them entered by the end of the week. I believe there is just some issues with a few Naf memberships we have to resolve.
BTW, great to hear all you boys made it home safe. It was a great tourny and i had a lot of fun playing all the out of towners, with the exception of the game against Trog. He just murdered my poor little Ratz.

Hope to see most of you at the Deathbowl.

It shouldn't be necessary for tourney results to be entered consecutively - the rankings will recalc from the earlier dates and adjust to the new entries. ( I believe that's correct, if I've learned anything from eavesdropping on conversations between others... Very Happy )

Ok, thanks Jim! Yeah I had a great comeback on Sunday (if there was a comeback award I'm sure I was in the running for it! Laughing )

I finnished 16th out of 38 can't complain when you finnish, right in between "the best Goblin Coach in the world" (Da Scum) & "ex NAF Prez."(Neo) I'd say I was in good company there!

Funny note had there been a round 7 it would have been me vs. Da Scum! Shocked

So sorry Jim if I'm sounding impatient, but this is the first tourney where my ranking will actually go up (& not down!!!) So I am kind of excited!

Well yes Scum your right! Maybe drawing a game right next to you was good luck, but maybe drawing a buddy from the NFBBL helped as well. (my Skaven have won more than lost vs. his Orcs in the past!)

Would it be possible to get a list of the races represented by each Coach at the SPIKE? I'm sure I know most...

1)The Rats of Nimh Ben T. (Skaven)
2)Bovine Slaughter Jon B. (Chaos Dwarf)
3)Necro Maniacs Kolja E. (Necromatic)
4)Metagames Goons Todd W. (???)
5)The Hobgoblin Team Ken W. (Chaos Dwarf)
6)The Rusted Spikes of Wu Neil U. (???)

ect ect ect (I'm a terrible typer, but hope you get the jist of what I'm asking. Would it be possible to get the full team's Race included with the thier name? (i'm just seeing how good or bad certain races did) For example if there was only 3 Skaven teams, then Skaven did pretty darn good (1st. 10th. & 16th. ...... it also seems Chaos Dwarves did very well!) Then there is other races such as Orcs (I'm not sure how many Orcs there were) but I'm sure 37th & 38th were both Orcs (its clear Nuffle frowns down on the Orcs!) Shocked

Yeah, what is up with that, eh? Mad Crying or Very sad

For a long time now my orcs have been the team to beat, and are usually able to put up a good fight. But I dunno what happened out there, except that I was unable to pick up the ball for about 80% of my attempts (even with sure hands) and then one game I only had two boys left on the pitch (dwarves had some SERIOUS grudges to settle)! I know, I know blame the dice, it's always the dice's fault. Well I guess I have to 'cuz the only alternatives were that I either suck as a Blood Bowl coach, or my opponents were superior coaches to me! Inconceivable! Razz

Next time..... oh yes.... next time......

Skull Skull Skull wil be Pow Pow Pow

or soemthing like that.....

Orc will be King Trophy

I have to be honest and back-up what Spazz is saying regarding his dice rolls. Against my Humans in the Pouring Rain...he failed either one or both attempts to pick up the ball during the second half. (This was every turn...pick-up the ball ::3:: Sure Hands ::2:: Scatter... Your Turn!!! Very Happy )

Perhaps it was just Nuffle's attempt to force "Hygiene" on those who so readily shun it.

I was surprised to find someone on Ebay selling of their spoils from SPike 2004!!!!

This surprises me, someone would want the spike coin... other than a participant.. and auctioning off a board...

Well I have to say.. I am disappointed, that someone thought so little of the tournament to try and make a couple of bucks on the coin.

THe board... DAMM I begged and pleeded to get one.. never did.. did not win one.. and this person is flogging it up for auction... least he could have done was post it up here for sale.

OH well.. my rant for today.

Maybe i should not have given mine away after all!

Before you bid Mel, you should know that the board is not made to scale. For example, you can make short passes up to 7 squares instead of 6. I'm not even sure that it's playable with a custom pass ruler, because the width may not even be in the right proportions to the length. Finally, the ink on it is not very stable. A mere drop of water is enough to erase a part of the board.

Almost 3 weeks....& still no SPIKE! updates Crying or Very sad

With the sudden change, (the new voting for Tourney members) I'm not saying I'd want to be a TO, (But I'd have no problems assisting a TO. Doing whatever I can.) This would be good practice someday for me one day hosting my own Tourney (no dates yet on the far backburner)

So Ben your the Canadian TO right? If you need any help at all with anything, give me a shout. It may take a wee bit of training or not, I really do not know in what ways you would need assistance!

Still waiting to see if I'll still be the worst BB Coach in Canada! Laughing

If this is not an enterprise of someone just entering game results into a database and allowing the database to do the calculations then it should be. Shocked

If it is, then I am sorry Ben, but almost 4 weeks when there are 38 people at a tourny and not all of them were NAF members is a bit hard to take. Other tournaments have run and results posted and rankings adjusted since then. Crying or Very sad

It would be nice to start a TOPIC or have something where our TO can post up.. sorry guys I am delayed a week .. personal stuff.. whatever.. so that I dont have to think this is just from lack of effort. Rolling Eyes

It would seem that the motion to reorganize the executive was in order. I am not a computer guru, but from what I have seen of the ranking system on NAF, which I think is the game as Fumbbl.. et all.. this should not be a 4 week passage to India Pushback Pushback Pushback

Having seen Woody try to enter the BB results this year, I can understand why it can take a while for the results to be entered. for example, if someone gives the wrong NAF number, gives their real name/log in name when the other is required, results wrongly entered on the round sheets. And that's before you take into account Real Life issues, etc.

Personally, I think we should give the NTO's a round of applause (seeing as they all do it for nothing in their own time), rather than slagging them off because they haven't got some (for all intents and purposes) ratings done in x days since an event.

just my POV.

Hey guys, i can understand your frustration for the Spike tournament taking as long as it did to enter. I can assure you since the the day after the tournament i have been trying to gather all the Naf numbers or names as there was several missing. Unfortunalty i don't have full access to the site so i had to gather information from different sources.
It has now been entered as you can see but just waiting for final approval so the site can calculate the results. Hope this helps to shed a little insight on the whole issue.

Hey I'm not pointing the finger at anyone! I have talked to Anthony,Brian, & Ben. All have told me the same thing, that the delay was because of us players & not them as tourney organisers.

I at the SPIKE recruited 3 players to join. (Now if these 3 players did not give the propper info when joining, that is not the TO's fault.) I understand there was current NAF useres who do not know thier NAF name or number Rolling Eyes If thats the case then why not have your card with you at all times (or at the very least when you attend a NAF Tourney)

Now yes there are those who do not have thier NAF card yet, but really thats no real excuse. You still should have gotten the e-mail & then should be registered into the system long b4 the card comes to you. So if you show up to the Tourney without a card cause you don't have it yet, no big deal. Just tell em your NAF name/number (write it down on some paper if you don't know it.)

Yes I am probably more impatient than most when it comes to waiting for the stats to go up. But thats just my being ancy, Ben is not to blame for people not bringing the propper info with them to a Tourney. Last time I checked Ben did not have a Crystal Ball he carried around with him. Or I don't think that he can read minds. So if we the players do not provide the propper info to the tourney than how is he or any TO supposed to get the stats up?

If nothing Else just follow the advice on my Signature!

With that all said...... "When are we gonna see the BUTTON pushed?" Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

My 2 cents...

We mail them out as quick as we can. Half tyhe time we are waiting on members to fill out their addresses. The cards also have to be printed. Then Brian and Woody have to take time to stuff envelopes, get to the post office and mail them.

Most times cards are received within the 6-8 week period. This stuff doesn;t happen over night.

It's not the enrty that takes time, it's tracking down people who can't be bothered to fill out their information or not even give the organizers anything to work with. Remember the people doing this stuff are volunteers, they have to fit in this in between their normal lives.
