Post subject: Death Cup Invitaional aka DC Invitational--MAY 28/29th 2005
I'm currently planning on a tournament in the DC area on May 28th and 29th. from reading the reports of Underworld...maybe a 4/2 schedule or a 3/2 schedule.

It will be a LRB 4.0 tournament with the following changes:

http://www.geocities.com/gkenta/

Regen works on 5+.
Dirty Player will be +1/+1
Chaos Dwarves will not have Big Guy access.
Halfling extra ingredients: 80k

Skill progression will be 1 skill per game with game 3 being a doubles choice.
Chaos teams will be able to take mutations as regular rolls on chaos warriors and beastmen. Only mutation limited to 1: Claw

Pts: 55 pts for win
35 for tie
10 for loss

bonus pts: loss by only 1 pt: 10 pts
caused 1 more cas by fouling or blocking than your opponent: +5 pts
caused 2 or more cas by fouling or blocking than your opponent: +10pts
won by 2+: +5pts
won by 3+: +10pts

Timers will not be used unless referees designate the game being behind schedule.
IP rule only used if both coaches agree.

Will update more later Smile

The Last round will be a champion ship game of top 2 teams: Team that wins is the CHAMP, other team is Runner up.
The All-around player will be the next highest score.
other Awards: Most Brutal---cas from fouling and blocking
Most TD
Best Painted
Most Sporting
Wooden Spoon Smile
******FLUFF***************

The Khemri Kingdoms have been holding their Death Cup for the last couple years. The Desert Kings have won the first two Death Cups, along with the Gumpta and Beantown Bruhahaha. They stole the Chaos Cup from the Skaven team Warped Vengence after the game---many dead rats were found in the locker room. As reigning champs the Desert Kings are required to send out the invations to the khemri teams.

They hired Krinko's to do the job. Snotling Scribe Gronky McSnot screwed it up and invited every team in the bloodbowl world.....well guess the khemri will have someone to beat on Smile

Ken, is this a true Invitational? If so we can't approve it for NAF ranking.

Ken based on our conversation ... I'm moving GenCon to 80k ingredients for the Flings.

And the bonus point system for GenCon is going to look very much like what you are using if not identical. Good table.

No Smile the snotling invited everybody Smile so anyone who shows up is in the tourney

but NAF rankings are becoming muddled to me.... it's just bonus baby Smile

Masterchef works per LRB with extra Ingrediants costing 80k.

I'll think about the Starplayers...I've always been anti-star for tourneys but with recent price changes I think they might work.

You say Chaos can get mutations, what about Skaven?
Hoshi_Komi - Nov 24, 2004 - 01:37 PM
Post subject:
no mutations for skaven unless they use their double roll on game 3.

mutations for chaos is to promote their play and because I don't think any one mutation on chaos will overpower them....if they take 4 claws then they won't be taking block.

D'oh! another tourney I can't attend, I have a wedding to attend that weekend (I'm the MC) kinda gotta be there. In fact the groom is one of our BB guys from Niagara, so is the Best man, & one of the Ushers. So too bad none of us can make it.

It sounds like a great tourney!

Oh well I'll catch it in 2006. Neutral
Hoshi_Komi - Nov 24, 2004 - 07:18 PM
Post subject:
Yeah, skaven are already a top tier team..they don't need any help..VLL gutter runners running around would make them even more dangerous.

there are already plenty of Skaven coaches. This rule is to promote Chaos playing in tourneys.

Post subject:
Who needs more Chaos playing? Would that include Rotters? I'd be interested to see if it does draw more coaches to Chaos or if they're already set in their ways. I suspect that the coaches that play Chaos didn't need this incentive and the other coaches that weren't going to take Chaos, still don't. I might. I don't take Block anyway. All those mutations are tempting. That'd let me try some different ones I may not normally take. 5439 Two Heads sounds interesting. Maybe one with Extra Arms to go with the Big Hand Beastman.

It just sounds like too much. I'm just wondering if they need this or if you just perceive them as a second tier tourney team. Are Lizzies next? Everyone gets doubles each round? Maybe Orc linemen should get extra skills since people don't usually take them and if they do, they don't ever give them skills, instead putting Block on the Black Orcs.

I'll watch and see how it turns out. There may be no issue. It's interesting to be sure. It will screw up ranking though as I suspect that a 4 mutation Choas team has a little better chance of winning games than one that doesn't. If a Coach does play them and ends up top ranked, was it his skill or the rules that were allowed?
Hoshi_Komi - Nov 29, 2004 - 07:09 AM
Post subject:
lol. If a chaos team wins the tourney...more power to him. Lizzies are pretty good tourney team already.

The way I see it, if a chaos team is taking mutations then they aren't taking block, sure hands and other skills they usually take which would balance them right out. Also I'd like to see someone take two heads cuz no one ever does in league play.

If someone else wants to power up another team then let'em. Rankings mean squat to me. Razz

It's about having fun, and I think seeing some mutations at a tournament would be neat. Right now with a choice between two skills or a mutation a chaos player would take 2 skills.

Well Baltimore Gamesday is cramping my style again. They are the same day as my tourney so I'm gonna move it. What would work best for everyone? May 28/29th (memorial Day weekend?) or April 30/May 1st or May 21st/22nd (I know this is bad for Jaylazer).....I'm leaning towards April 30/May 1st.

Also with so much to do around DC, I hope people come on by.

Gken,

Seeing as I was unable to make it to the Brouhaha I was looking at coming out to yours, but it's not going to work out either! But I had to say that looking over the rules that you have for this one, I relaly like it, especially the ideas of more mutations for the chaos teams - I would have brought my Rotters out to play if I had come.

Maybe next time!

Hey Ken,

I was looking at hotel information on your site (wife might be coming) and I think there is a mistake.

I'm assuming you don't actually want us to stay at the Harvard Square hotels up in Boston.

Do you have any other suggestions? Preferably something closer to Alexandria.

bummer. The chaos rules have been popular...Philly Phracus used them and the Chaos coaches had more fun!

Well I would think so, I mean what other opportunities would you hae to field such a heavily mutated team? I think that Q'ermitt is going to be getting a warpstone injection next year!

It most definitely would have been a blast! But just curious, are the coaches required to have extra models available to WYSIWYG the mutations?

We didn't require it at the Phrakus. It really doesn't matter that much. I mean you don't have to mark the mini when the player has Mighty Blow. This is pretty much the same thing.

That being said, we did have a coach model his mutations while playing the games. Had them painted for the 2nd day.

yeah the harvard square thing is a mistake...i'll get that fixed.

Depends on your plans. If the wife is gonna go see DC proper, I think the Holiday Inn near the Eisenhower (probably not spelled right) station is a good bet. Walking distance to the Metro--which is key. Plus it's near my house and I can pick u up.

but with DC hotel prices I don't want to lock anyone into a hotel. Cuz prices vary alot. If anyone needs help looking for a hotel room feel free to pm me and I'll do some research for you.

No. I'm not gonna force that, but if they do have the mini's it's nice to see Smile

It actually worked pretty good. The Chaos coach actually didn't even use the claw in one game (either rolled super high or super low).

But if you think about it, there really isn't a super mutation except Claw (which I limited to one anyway).

and if they are taking claw...they aren't taking block!

Oh I dunno, the big hand/extra arms combo was one that I was thinking about....

I would say no. Claw/RSC is simply too good a combo for that to happen.
snew - May 09, 2005 - 02:17 PM
Post subject:
I'd say no too. Some mutie combos are very effective.

Spazz mentioned Warpstone. Leave it home. Let Chaos take Muts if you like but not Skaven. They're good enough without a bunch of VLL GRs and Claw SVs running around.
skummy - May 09, 2005 - 02:19 PM
Post subject:
Yes, that is the policy at the Death Cup. No Skaven mutations allowed, unless you take 'em on a real doubles roll.
Hoshi_Komi - May 09, 2005 - 03:25 PM
Post subject:
As for Claw/RSC, I don't see a problem with it. It will be for only 2 games. Stacking 2 skills on one player for chaos...when they definitley could use the other skills....and he still has no block. So i'm gonna allow it for chaos.

Skaven get no mutations unless they use their doubles choice after game 3.

Most Cas: Nik from Arlington
Best Painted: Jeremy (bampf) again with his Lizzie team
Most Sporting: Jay (jaylazer) Don't know how this happened....

Thanks Ken and Chirs for a great tourney! The double OT was a crazy finish to a fine weekend. I really enjoyed myself.

My highlights:
I scored a fair number of TDs despite playing two games entirely in the rain.

I beat Nick s dwarfs 3-0 despite having a single mini left on the pitch at the end of the game (8 Cas againts for those scoring at home).

Losing a 3-1 lead to John s wood elves was much easier to take when I killed that wardancer on turn 8! If I had done that a few turns earlier it would have been an easy W.

Sotek demanded a turn of greatness: my turn 8 of the first half against undead. There s a ghoul a couple spaces from scoring and I have no one nearby to stop an easy turn 8 score. So one skink makes 3 dodges for a die down block... Pow- Pow. Ghoul goes down and is stunned. My Sure Hands skink gets up off the ground, makes four dodges through countless tackle zones, two go for its and then picks the ball up in the rain in a TZ! Yes. And he wasn t done there. He was stuck in a wight s TZ so, he then withstood two 2 die blocks from the wight (re-rolled) and a two die ghoul blitz to maintain control of the ball as the halftime buzzer sounded!

Madness!! Madness I tell. That skink is now my hero.

And I do feel bad about winning Best Painted two tourneys in a row with the same team... my pro elves will be done in time for Beantown!

I'd like to add my thanks to Bampf's, Ken and Chris.

Had a great time down there. A lot of great coaches and a whole lot of fun.

My only real highlight was coming back from a 0-2 deficit at half-time to beat Steve's High Elves (with my woodies) 3-2.

I was surprised to win the Best Sportsman. I had several rough games but tried my best to have fun in spite of them. Apparently I did a good job.

Thanks again everyone.
