OK - I've put the challenge down. To not only be bigger than Warhammer Fantasy this year,

But also to have 40+ coaches playing.

Who's coming?

(for more details see:
http://www.bloodbowl.net/naf.php?page=tournaments&op=view&id=154
or http://www.geocities.com/blood-bowl under tournaments).

I'd be interested to know what teams people are planning on bringing so if you vote yes, please specify team type/name Smile

Yep, we've sent our entry in and booked flights.

I was going to play Vampires until I attempted a game with them and failed every second OFAB roll. Embarassed Maybe I should go back to Skaven, although Wood Elves would be worth a try. Rolling Eyes

Too hungover too paint anything new - so ... something I have already painted ....

Elan,

any idea about any other Melbournians coming?

I'd love to see the regular crowd attend, as well as some new faces (like Twahn?)

I'm not a Sydneysider but two of us will be driving from Sydney to Canberra on Friday afternoon, but probably not driving back until Tuesday. You can have a ride if you like, but my travel time may not suit you.

That reminds me, I suppose I'd better book somewhere to stay before the whole city gets booked out.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll either drive up Friday night (leaving after 7pm) or Saturday morning, coming back Monday after the last game.

If you need a lift I'll be passing through sydney right around peak hour (5-6pm Sad )

Thanks for that offer - I've sent a PM

BTW I'm staying in the Formula 1 motel. Anyone else going to be there?

I think Smeborg (Paul Deacon) will be. Gave him the same advice.

Yes, Ian, I'm staying in the F1 too.

Cheers

Both Em and I will be there (despite having to borrow money to enter. $44 are they kidding or what?!!). Was gonna do ogres but couldn't afford to get the minis in time. Either lizards or Chaos Dwarves I think.
Doubleskulls - Jan 16, 2005 - 03:24 PM
Post subject:
$44 didn't sound that unreasonable to me - a typical 2 day tourney in Europe is around $60. Saying that Spaniards riot if they have to pay more than 10 euros.
biggy - Jan 16, 2005 - 05:59 PM
Post subject:
Well given that most cons charge around $30 it was a bit rude. If we didn't have family to stay with in the ACT we wouldn't be going!
Babs - Jan 25, 2005 - 02:04 PM
Post subject:
I agree with Abigwood. $44 is very expensive and despite my pleas for discounts they still charge that much.

MOAB on the other hand is much more reasonable.
Doubleskulls - Jan 25, 2005 - 03:39 PM
Post subject:
One thing that surprised me was the rip off prices for coffee & hot dogs etc. Someone is making a tidy little sum from us there.
Babs - Jan 26, 2005 - 01:34 PM
Post subject:
It's because the convention site runs the stand. CanCon have nothing to do with the food supply. It's all staffed and run by the site (EPIC), not CanCon.

This is completely unlike MOAB, where volunteers man the canteen (in a high school sense), and most of the profits for the Convention come from ... the canteen (believe it or not).
Doubleskulls - Jan 26, 2005 - 03:16 PM
Post subject:
Still its a great tournament. What bothers me is not the money - its the feeling I'm being ripped off.

Maybe you should give the organisers some feedback - say you feel that it hurts the attendence and ask whether they'd either negoiate with EPIC or look at a different venue.

BTW the MOAB data is all in the PBBL Results database now.
biggy - Jan 27, 2005 - 01:09 AM
Post subject:
It's been tried. The organisers are infallible (at least according to them). The MOAB guys are much more approachable. MOAB overall has a much more 'family' sort of feel. The hotdogs rock too!
Doubleskulls - Feb 02, 2005 - 05:18 PM
Post subject:
Any idea when the results will be submitted here?
Elan - Feb 03, 2005 - 03:03 AM
Post subject:
OI, you lot - there is another Convention - 5 games over two days - in the far more livable Melbourne. Being civilised, this means drinking time is a surety!

Ah, Melbourne, perpetual home of the Cancon BB Trophy ... even when half the damn Melbournites go off shagging themselves so silly they forget there is a comp on! Rolling Eyes

Have a look in the Tournaments area, whenever the Babs decides to approve it Mr. Green
Babs - Feb 04, 2005 - 01:11 AM
Post subject:
Give me a break! It's approved OK!

Results for CanCon are in - I'm just waiting for the 'magic stamp of approval' from someone with more authority than me to 'make it so' and then visible to everyone and update the rankings.

...and the only reason Melbourne wins it is because I'm not playing Smile Smile Smile :0

As to a discount: I managed it for one year only (2003). Now I'm told that that's "a bargain" and not to complain as it won't change.

Frankly, if it doesn't change in 2006 then it might start looking a little more reasonable (after all it's been $44 for 3 years and inflation happens).

I agree with the food costs. Andrew and I are lucky that we (a) have family to stay with and (b) Mum buys us stuff to makes lunches with! Otherwise there is no way we could afford Cancon, not when it's nearly $100 just to enter.

On the plus side, Leaviathan is much cheaper, nudge nudge, wink wink. LOL

I agree with the MOAB thing. Great atmosphere, much more reasonably priced food and entry and GREAT hotdogs! Smile

Guys, I ran wargames comps at CanCon for more than a few years - the discussions I had with CGS re price, services, hot dogs and their treatment of players and others led me to believe that they really don't care. At least it is not as bad as it used to be! They still don't care, and will charge us like a rat ogre, but at least we have aircon now ...

However, all that said, it is the biggest convention in Aussie, so I guess you have to discount quality in favour of quantity sometimes. I still think it is the players and Commish that makes the comp work for me - so three cheers for Babs and lets all start saving for next year?

Oh, yeah - Babs, I can't let your remarks re Melbourne only winning 'cause you don't play go past without comment .... Mellbourne has proved its clear superiority ... but we would like to see you field something anyways!

Quite a few of the Fantasy tourneys are starting to get into that price range. Mind you, those are generally held in the air-conditioned confines of a nice club. CGS definitely has a checkered history.
Babs - Feb 22, 2005 - 01:45 PM

Certainly. If I moved Blood Bowl into a different venue ran at the same time & city I wouldn't get the same crowd. There's something to be said for the stalls.
