Rules Questions - Knock Out Recovery Question

Post subject: Knock Out Recovery Question
I was playing a game vs Skaven in which the Skave team was taking a beating and did not want to place thier players on the pitch. But now they have to with the rule of 11 Very Happy .

But then we read the wording for knock outs

"At the next kick-off, before you set up any players,
roll for each of your players that have been
KO???d. On a roll of 1-3 they must remain in the
KO???d box and may not be used, although you
may roll again for them at the next kick-off. On a
roll of 4-6 you may return the player to the
Reserves box and can use them as normal from
now on."

So, can a team that is taking a severe beating, just keep his KO players in the KO box and thus avoid placing them on the field??? Or should the may be a must???

I normally post on TBB, but it have been down all week Crying or Very sad and I am really curious about this

Well IMO if they are allowed to remain in the KO box then they will not be automatically available for the next drive as any player in the KO box counts as KOd.

But I think in this case that the may statement is the permission form of the word rather than the option form. For the sake of making it rules lawyer proof it probably needs to be changed. But if you simply change may to must then it can be read in a way that guarantees that the player misses at least one drive after the one in which he is KOd. After all you roll when you set up for the next drive and he must go in reserves at that time not on the pitch.

I'm not so sure about this. The rule says "At the next kick-off, before you set up any players, ..." With this you would move the player to the reserves box and then setup your players for the kick-off.

Just to be clear I'm not saying that's right, or even a half way decent interpretation. I am saying that somebody will try to twist it or just plain misread the thing and come to the wrong conclusion.

I think that you are reading too much into the "may". It is simply proper grammar. Players should be returned to the field, whether or not the coach wants it to happen.

Tell him to stop being a wuss! Wink

You would also be a wuss after having a ratogre die Very Happy . I was having an awesome game. 7 casualties, 2 deaths (1 saved by apoth) and 3 serious injuries). First time in a long time.

Back to the topic. I thought it was a type-o as well. Whats the point of the rule of 11 if you can hide in the KO box. My friend, as a Skaven coach, wasn't too happy about the rule of 11....

It's not a typo, it's just the way it's being read. It is not saying "may" to indicate that you have a choice, just that this is what is done in this case. If you roll a 1-3 he stays in the box. If you roll 4-6 he may move back to the field (kicking and screaming if need be)!
