Anyone who can go I'd strongly recommend doing so since the more people who attend and play BB the more likely GW oz are to realise that they ought to be supporting BB properly.

It would also encourage them to have more tournaments which is a good thing. Very Happy

I think I'm going to try and get there meself - I may even have won some free accomodation down there, so it will just be a matter of saving up some pennies for petrol and food.

Doubleskulls - is Mrs. Doubleskulls going and shopping Melbourne?

The only way I'd be able to go is if my wife comes too and hits melbourne with the credit card!

Shocked

Any idea why it costs this much and what we might get for such a price? Or is this just GW being b*stards?
Chunky - Jun 17, 2005 - 09:27 AM
Post subject:
Pretty standard prices for GW run events. They're typically the most expensive for the least value. That being said I plan on going, just on the very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very vague chance a good turnout might convinec them to support BB a bit more.

As a result of the price rise by GW though in terms of tourney costs, a lot of the fantasy tourneys moved to nicer venues as they could get away with charging a bit more and still be cheap, which was a good thing IMO.

All,

Sorry I was more than somewhat delayed in getting on here (work committments), but I will be assisting organising for this event! Thanks to Babs for getting this on here before I noticed!

The Games Village, home to my weekly league, is the other sponsor and will be ensuring that everything is "GO!" for kick-off ... as will I.

BTW, Doubleskulls and Babs- you are both pikers!! Too scared to come down here and face the mighty Southern league style of footy! Wimps!

$50 is actually pretty 'standard' for GW events and has been for some time. That said, the last GT that I went to here in Sydney had exceptional prize support with very swank trophies to match (I picked one up myself).

Is it worth $50 though? I think the jury is out on that one - after all, one of the factors for the $50 price tag for 40k & Warhammer are the custom tables with cool terrain that GW supplies - which is obviously not needed for Bloodbowl at all. I dunno, I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder as to whether it's good value or not. Personally, I think it's pretty good - $25 each day for a day out socialising and playing BB is pretty much a bargain for me so I don't mind coughing up, although it's definitely on the high side of price for what you get.

That said, GW hardly ever dip their toes into the official 'BB Event' arena anymore so I'd say bugger the cost, if you can get your bum there, do so and show GW that the local BB community is still alive and well!

It's a shame this isn't being held in Sydney, I'd be there in a flash...

Yeah, true, this does go some way towards justifying the cost for me...

I was just reading through the players pack and it says "Coaches are allowed to use minis from Games Workshop or any other range"

Is this really the case? I thought the rule for GW events was usually that only GW minis are allowed... I hope what it says is true though, that would be really good, means I can use my new shadowforge team Cool

I must admit - it's a good step if it's true and not just an oversight from what Games Village / Doubleskulls / Elan have given them.

Talked to Andrew Long - it is true (you can bring non-GW minis). It's the only games system they are making that caveat on.

Which is a very positive move.

I'm keen to know who's going. I want a good representation there. That way, we might be able to get one happening in Sydney/get them to stock BB models/support BB more!

And I heard that in July's White Dwarf there's a 2 page ad for it - with a BB logo and it clearly advertised.
Elan - Jun 24, 2005 - 04:00 AM
Post subject:
Sorry for the delay in response - but YES - NO mini range restriction - you can field non-GW figures!!!

I laid this on GW as a precondition due to the GW non-support of the game in Oz and the use of non_GW figures by lots of players. The agreed without bloodshed. I was almost disappointed. So bring out your Shadowforge, Phils Phigs CLick-game plastics (I have seen a real nice necro team done that way) and so on.

One thing I would say tho - the comp rules are specific: all mini must be based, painted (the usual three colour rule), numbered and look like what is it supposed to be ... the Commissioners will knock back entry if this is not followed. So I really hope no-one does this.

The GamesVillage guys and I are going to try and make this an excellent event - so please all come down and play tough!!!

Dan - for NAF's sake get your priorities right! BB comes first! Rugrats can be sold. I understand that they are the other other white meat and most asian food outlets prefer them to cats. Who knows, you may be able to get enough to afford the petrol for Chunkers to drive you!

I found out some more information re why GW said YES to "use any models" - according to a friend here, another Games Club in Melbourne rang them before a previous event and advised them that prohibiting players who want to use non-GW figures is in breach of the Trade Practices Act. It apparently consititutes restrictive trade practices, as they are charging for the event ... my dim recollection os s52 of the Act says that this is likely the big reason behind GW agreeing to this ... something for all you would-be event organisers and players to remember!!!

And there I was that we had scored a coup! Ah well.

SO - WHO IS COMING TO PLAY???

As per usual with the Melbourne Tourneys, there will be a nuetral Commissioner administering the system and ensuring that while the Tourney Organisers can play, they cannot be accused of cheating - and the Game Commissioner will be the one who provides game-by-game Commissioner rulings etc.

No-one will know who will get to play who until the day (its randomised so we can't fudge it) but I am hoping to play as many NAF and out-of-towners as I can ... so, again - who is coming?

I am really looking forward to this one! Should be a blast that I hope to see provide Melbourne with an ongoing mid-year tourney open to all comers ... even Sydney-siders! There will also be a Saturday night dinner, voluntary attendance, on Lygon Street, which will help me celebrate my big 40 which is a few days later ... so come along and beat up on the old bald guy!

Yeah, you'll get smacked down as well Twahnicus.

Not a clue as to how many are going - all I know is it looks like I'll be making the trip by meself now.

Well now! I get to play the muppet boy and Twahniccus ... won't that be a barrel of fun?

Who else is coming on down? I have lined a few league players up - hoping for decent numbers, so get yer asses enrolled!

Would anyone be up for a game or two of Munchkin on the Saturday (or Friday I suppose) night somewhere? I'll be staying at JoeKanos place, and I intend to make a Munckin purchase before I come down.

On that front, does anyone have any Munchkin stuff - because I'll try my best to avoid duplication.

Chunky,

Contact Cory thru JK - I think they have every munchkin in the world.

Also, don't plan anything for Sat. NIght - we are going to Hard Rock Cafe in the City to celebrate my b'day ... and its close to pubs and trains so you get get all the way home again to JK's (who snores).

I noticed the results are now in the rankings - did I really play not a single NAF player? Or are they currently in the process of being added? Ineed just one win to get above Zoltan and be the #1 Human Smile

CHUNKY crowned King of Humans with a 0.2 lead over the pretenders! Well done mate! Wink
Chunky - Aug 31, 2005 - 11:56 PM

Only got 2 out of the 5 games count unfortunately Sad

So 3/2/0 was instead 1/1/0

I noticed you lost two results as well.
Twahn - Sep 01, 2005 - 04:17 AM
Post subject:
Yah, and I think my results are wrong too... not that I mind getting free points, but I never played anybody twice, and I've got a 2-1 win in round 4 that never happened against Balthain (whom I assume is Chris Tice, though he has no name or even country in the listings).
I did wollop him 4-0 in round 5 however... Wink

Shoulda made it $15 more expensive for non NAFs and included membership with their entry, though a $65 price tag probably would have scared them away methinks...
Babs - Sep 01, 2005 - 03:04 PM
Post subject:
Yeah. If results are inaccurate, let me know and I can hopefully correct them.

I got them in good faith from Elan (Mark Newman).
Chunky - Sep 01, 2005 - 03:55 PM
Post subject:
Yeah, I missed out on my 5-0 win vs annachie as well Sad I assume he's not a member though. It was strange though, I thought a fair few of the players were NAF, at least I'm sure I saw a few of them sign up or reup.
Babs - Sep 02, 2005 - 05:28 AM
Post subject:
Unfortunately, although a majority of players were NAF, there were only 2 or 3 games counting each round.

Thanks Babs. If you could remove the 2-1 win over Balthain in Round 4 from the results, should drop my score nicely and give me a warm feeling of justice served. Yay! Smile

Check out that self sacrifing fair mindedness! Even makes me sick... Wink

Twahn,

Just clarifying... So that result is incorrect?

That's right. The 2-1 win over Balthain never happened. The 4-0 win over him that follows is legit though. Smile
