Is TBB down? I haven't been able to get in from work for several days (haven't tried from home). Is it just me or did I miss an announcement or something.

Doubleskulls - Jul 07, 2005 - 09:26 PM

I do. There is some issue with the DNS propagation.

One temporary solution is to put the following line in your hosts file (normally C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts)

81.168.2.123 www.talkbloodbowl

That ought to allow you to connect. I can't connect from work, because the stupid firewall can't resolve the name and I don't have permission to go and edit its hosts file.

You can't go directly to the IP address. The hosting site needs the domain (talkbloodbowl.com) and the IP address to know where to send you. That's what the change to the hosts file does.

And hopefully poor people like me, who have been unable to get on for _four_ months can finally access it!

I think it might have something to do with the cache maintainer at my ISP, as both my home and work internet eventually go through the same provider. They use Squid - ad I think it's the one with the problem. My IT guru friend could log onto it yesterday, so unless _he_ crashed it, he could access it from his ISP. Mine won't though Sad

... and you need to make sure that the hosts file is not hosts.sam, as .sam just means .sample - and so you need to rename it without the extension for the computer to take any notice of it.

I am currently in South Korea. I an see TBB from here. I an also see it on several locations in Australia, but I can't get in from home or work. I think it might have to be that both plaes (my ISP and my work) use a program called Squid to resolve web addresses, and this seems to have a problem with TBB. Fortunately, I think that my work is changing programs so hopefully:
1) I will be able to chek while I am in South Korea
2) I will be able to check again by going to an internet cafe
3) My work will change and I'll be able to regularly check TBB again!

I don't claim to understand all the web/computer talk, but it seems that somewhere along the line, TBB's "location" on the net was changed (by JohnnyP, his server/ISP or whatever I've no idea), and for some reason, not all servers (or something) have found the new "location" yet. Why this is, I've no idea. So no, it's not your problem, but it's not specifically TBB's either. Somehwere along the line, it's part of the net not getting updated info.

We suggest that the owner of the domain have the DNS checked for correct entries. www.dnsreport.com will help diagnose any issues.

I have to go to my local library to view TBB. It's annoying - but I do check it once a month or so.

However, I have it on good info that Pipex are being a bit OT on this, as the domain is paid for until mid-September this year.
If it has a month to go, I can't see how they can block it.
