North America - ArisiaBowl - Boston Jan 14

Post subject: ArisiaBowl - Boston Jan 14
Hi folks,

I just got preliminary approval to run a Bloodbowl Tournament at Arisia (S/F con in Boston, Jan 13-15. This would be a 1-day tourney on Saturday the 14th. There would also be opportunity for pick-up gaming Friday night and Sunday.

http://2006.arisia.org/
If you register for Arisia by Dec 15, you can get a weekend admission for the cost of Saturday-Only at the door ($35). Admission includes snacks and beverages in the Con Suite, and access to the Dealers Room, Art Show, and all the other workshops, programs, and activities of the convention.

If you???re thinking of coming, please let me know. Having an estimated head count will be helpful as I negotiate space requirements in the near future.

Also, who can provide NAF sanctioning for this? Following the ???contact us??? info, I had sent an inquiry to Gregg Giersch as RTC on the 21st, but haven???t heard back yet. Is somebody else doing US sanctioning?

Cheers,
Maureen

I will get with Gregg and make sure the event is sanctioned, Mo. Besure to look at the various event software to become familiar with how they operate - although a tourney of 6 - 12 coaches can be just as effectively managed by pen and paper.... I was always amazed watching John Lewis run the Underworld tournament with just a pencil...

Edit:
"The Death Star is fully operational..." ok, so it's just a website and not a space station, but it's ready for you to register for a wonderful time in January!

~Rob/Melifaxis

I added the event to the tournaments section (if this is a duplication of effort let me know Mo and I'll delete it) as well, and also added it to House-Rulez, BBC, and the SG forums.

Exciting news, the GW store in Harvard Square is providing great prize support, including painted Human and Dark Elf teams! The Human team picture is up on the website now, click on the news icon. The Dark Elf team will be posted as soon as I have a photo.

Yay,

Hmm, we still haven't heard from Gregg. Its been over a month since I sent him email. Is his contact info in the RTC list correct? Mr. Monkey, have you had any luck finding him? (And have your Chaos Dwarves found a good therapist yet? They're not really chaotic, they just have trouble sublimating.)

Meanwhile, more great prize news. Danger Planet is donating an unpainted team, Pandemonium Books is donating several copies of the Blood Bowl novel, and Arisia will provide funding for a legacy trophy!

Cheers,
Maureen

More exciting prize news:

Danger Planet Games in Waltham has donated 2 unpainted team box sets -- Khemri and Nurgles Rotters. That's 4 teams up for grabs now!

And Pandemonium Books in Harvard Square has confirmed they will be donating copies of the Blood Bowl novels.

Maureen

This is going to be a fun one guys! I know $35 is on the high end, but with four teams up for grab, that should help ease the pain Very Happy

And I just found out that this year the Con Suite and the Gaming Rooms are on the same floor. So any time you get a chance to duck down the hall, you can grab free snacks and drinks. Arisia's always had an above average Con Suite, and this year, they quadrupled its budget!

Cheers,
Maureen

Woohoo!

Arisia confirmed the final funding request for our legacy trophy. We're commissioning local artist Scott Lefton to create it. Rob will get this up in the News section on our website soon, but I couldn't wait to share Scott's preliminary illustration. Your name and team could be engraved on this for lasting fame:

Dec. 15 is the last day for a price discount for a weekend membership to the con. Weekend and day passes will be available at the door.

What time do you think you'll be arriving? Driving or flying from NJ?

I've been pm'ing Rottweilerrme who's pondering flight times from VA.

I'm planning on some open gaming Friday night and Sunday as long as we have players. If we get an early quorum, we can start the dice rolling Friday afternoon. Its not unusual for pick-up gaming to get started at Arisia before the con officially starts, the conference rooms are all blocked off for us anyway Very Happy

The 2nd Friday is usually HBBL league night, we'll see how many of the gang we can lure over to the hotel.

Cheers,
Mo

Unfortunately, I can't come early. I have to do something in New Jersey Friday night, so I'm probably driving up at 4am on Saturday (fortunately, I'm insane, so this isn't a problem). I'll miss being at a Friday get-together, but hopefully I'll have a chance to talk to everyone Saturday.

Just out of curiosity, what part of NJ are you from? Leaving NJ at 4AM...even North Jersey looks to be a 5-hr drive to MA. Smile

Melifaxis was crushed in the first round by Chaos Dwarves...The team that would eventually play the Ironclad Britches for the Arisia Bowl Championship.

The Finals:
Ironclad Britches vs. Frawd Cons (Dwarf vs Chaos Dwarf)
First half (Blizzard switching to Pouring Rain):
The excitement in the first half was highlighted by the Ironclad's ability to score as the kicking team. Much pushing around, knocking down, and stunning...until the last few turns where one of the Bull Centaurs (the one with block) got himself dead.
Second half (Pouring Rain switching to nice weather):
Ironclad receives and marches down the field and scores in 4 turns. A Chaos Dwarf is killed. Ironclad leads 2-1. Scrambling for the ball, the Cons are able to put the ball and a few players near the endzone. Fighting off the Ironclad, they kill a longbeard with Guard. Before scoring though the Ironclad fight back, killing the Clawed Minotaur before time expires and we head into OT.
OT: Ironclad wins the toss. Ironclad receives a touchback off of a Bad Kick. The Frawd Cons LOS is knocked down entirely. A hobgoblin is KO'ed (now a 2 man advantage for the Ironclad, a runner was KO'ed in the 2nd half and never recovered). Ironclad pushes the field forward while caging the remaining runner. A hobgoblin is killed and the Ironclad pushes to the right side of the Cons side of the field. There are Trollslayers (both with Mighty Blow) on both the right and left side of the field and the remaining Guarding Longbeard is in the middle. The Blitzers move to protect the Runner. The remaining Bull Centaur is knocked down and surrounded, the runner moves into scoring range. The Bull Centaur makes a last ditch effort to dodge through the dwarven cage around him but is tripped up.

Ironclad wins 3-2. Final record for the Ironclad Britches 3-0-1.
Ironclad also won most Casualties with 15.
Wotan's Children (Norse) came in second (and Best NAF rookie) with a record of 3-1-0.
Frawd Cons came in third with a record of 2-1-1.
Best Painted and Wooden Spoon: The Organ Donors (Undead)
Best Conversion: Some Kinda Voodoo
Most TDs: I forget...Vhaerun's Blades maybe
BB_Babe - Jan 16, 2006 - 12:21 PM
Post subject:
We'll get the results up once we have our new NAF members registered in the system. 100% NAF attendance thanks to Rob!

I'm working on the pix.

And we have a heartbreaking posthumous award for very nearly made it to the tourney: Voltbang had a major snafu with his ticket at the airport. He didn't make it on the plane from Virginia, but his luggage with the two teams he was bringing made it to Logan -- so they were sitting within 3 miles of the tourney Crying or Very sad Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad Fortunately, they've made it back to him now too.

Most TDs: Vhaerun's Blades -- yup, they came in 5th with 10TDs both For & Against. Heading into the last moments of the finals they were in contention for the Wooden Spoon and Most TDs Shocked -- if the Blades lost their last game instead of tied, and if the Organ Donors managed a win....

We had an odd number, so I only played two matches. I was OWNED in the first one by well coached CD's and some horrible dice. 2-0

Next match was a 2-2 Tie, but I had a shot at the win in the last turn....just couldnt pull it off Very Happy

Thanks to Mo and Meliflaxis for running a great tournament with fantastic prizes! Me and my rats have to have a little talk in the clubhouse... They're really good at getting smack-down blow-out wins against elves, but against everyone else they fight tooth and claw for ties or close losses. We need to do something about that.
