For all the bashing that GKen gave me over the Chaos Cup ... at least the GW-Chicago folks listen to my suggestions when I give them. Looks like the Spike folks didn't hear a word the NAF folks said.

I'm sure they hear. They just think we don't know what we're talking about. After all how could we know more about running a BB event than them. Rolling Eyes

As far as I see it we've got two choices. Either we bombard them with emails telling them this is a stupid idea or we ignore them and we run our own Spike. Though ignoring the problem will only make it worse for us BB coaches here in Canada. Not that the support could get much worse but if no one shows to their Spike that'll be the nail in the coffin to their BB support here.

I agree, ignoring their Spike and holding your own would damage any shot of future support. I would lean (especially since there is still a few months) towards an email campaign directed at corporate and a verbal campaign directed at any in-store employees and management. A more positive outcome would be likely if voices are heard as opposed to voices being silent. I mean, they're not going to take any of the "Mega Kill Team Tank-Bashing Crusaders" away from their games, why not just let us have it on our own? Now if they want to have the "Canuck Open" at games Day, that's a different story...

We've got a Canadian Open already. They can run a Spike at Games Day for all I care, I say we run our own tournament in Toronto the same weekend and everyone go play at that. Its going to cost a small fortune to go to Games Day, just to play in a 1-day tournament. We can run a good 2-day tournament for less than half of what it costs to go to Games Day.

I think this might be a hold-over from before the last Spike, when GW wasn't going to run it this year and they were going to put it in Games Day. If that isn't the case, I'm ready to forget about GW-Canada having anything to do with Blood Bowl

To be completely honest I don't think that Blood Bowl lpays any role in GW's thinking when they are planning an event. For them Blood Bowl is just a throw-in to try and maximize the profit of a larger event. It is not a big portion of their profits mind-you, but it doesn't cost them anything to throw us a couple of tables so that they can make a few extra bucks. They know that there is a demographic up there that plays they game, so they are trying to tap into that to make a few extra dollars.

Bampf was contacted by GW to run tournies at their Conflict AND Games Day in Baltimore...both got next to no prize support from GW. These were held at two seperate events that had "Cover Charges" and GW could not be bothered in either event to do anything special.

I would say the upcoming Arisa Bowl, 1-day tourney that BB Babe is holding in the Boston area is getting great prize support...especialy for a one day. But I think that has more to do with her, and the individual GW employees there than with GW as a whole.

The point of all that babble is that I don't think that GW is going to be responsive or forthcoming in any event, so if folks want to pay upwards of $40.00 to go to a Blood Bowl event...make that fact evident to one/all of the Canadian TO's and commit to that price. This will give that person (Brian, Ben, Craig...) the opportunity to do it right and give their attendees what they want instead of just helping GW's profit margin.

GW-Harvard Square just really loves Blood Bowl. We are very fortunate to have them.

Yup, we have great local managers at both the GW store in the Square and up the road in Danvers at the Liberty Tree Mall. We're also getting great non-GW support too because we're holding ArisiaBowl as part of a larger convention, so everybody's promotional support gets greater visibility.

That, and I do keep showing up in everybody's store and pestering them Cool

Cheers,
Maureen

Then book your tickets for the Q'ermit! Wink

Seriously though, I do have some connections with the guy who would be planning this event. I will speak to him and see what I can do.

yea, but the guy who runs the Q'ermit is a jerk. Very Happy Laughing

Seriously though, go to the Q'ermit or the Canadian Open, both will be big this year and will make GWs attempt at a tournament look like something a bunch of 6 year olds threw together.

My thoughts exactly, one less trip to plan I guess.

Late July? May be interested, I am looking to try and get over there in August / September. The price of the hotels in Indy has kind of put me off for the Gencon, and the last I heard the Zlurpee was moving but not sure.

Zlurpee will be moving to Late July. If Hotel prices are the only thing stopping you from coming to GenCon, I can help you find an affordable room. Or there is the block of rooms that the out of towners usually get. PM me if you want.

If you wanted to come to the Zlurpee I would have to make it my number one goal of entertaining you the time you were here. Smile
I should have a lot of info for the Zlurpee very soon.

But anyway back to the Spike talk.

Valen ... as Xtreme said ... it is real easy to split a room with folks for GenCon ... you just need to ask around.

CyberHare, jaylazer, darthnoir, Old Man Monkey ... they all normally split room costs for the tournament in some way or another.

Unfortuantley Tom, I checked the flights and the flights are over double the price in the summer, which means unless I come into some money I wont be there Sad

As I have said to others in other threads. I don't think we should consider any support from GW Canada anymore.

As for the SPIKE! Magazine Trophy Tournament. I was planning on organizing it myself this year.

Their tournament will need NAF backing to get almost any players out. IF NAF does not support it, then it will die.

I am think AUG or beginning of Sept would be a good time for the SPIKE!

I understand a Group in Oakville Mississauga is interested in running this as well.. maybe we can combine all efforts and run a great tournament in spite of what GW wants.

But as others have said we have great tournaments available here. Suport all the good events we have, and let the crap get flushed!!
