North America - US world cup team?

Post subject: US world cup team?
So I know its still very early in the game, but just wondering how many people were thinking of making the trip over for Team USA.

I'm definitely going over for it - if nothing else then as an observer. I honestly would like to be captain but if other more deserving folk (which is just about anyone who gives a shout...) step forward, then that's great. Don't necessarily want to be a player but would love to have a hand in the organization and strategy of the team...

Hopefully enough people will get this going, I'm pretty sure my military commitments will keep me out.

Well...I'm not sure if I am deserving of a roster spot, but I sure would like one. Maybe we can tie in the results from the NA Cup to factor in who makes the grade...or maybe we can have a seperate individual-based tourney just to help determine who is going. Sort of like a qualifier...

I don't know, but I want in! Smile

When I get some solid team building regulations posted there will be a strong suggestion that national qualifier tournaments not be held. It'll be more based on who wants to go, who can go, and if there's a surplus of people wanting to be on a team, then making a competetive team lineup that's still fun. Unless we want to make this a totaly serious event with ridgid team building guidlines, qualifiers will get out of hand in some area's.

You guy's havn't asked the really important question though. Does Rod play for team Canada or team USA?

Paul, stay the hell off this thread, ya goofy Canuck Very Happy - I know you're feeling pretty good right now with Canada's upset of the USA in the World Baseball "made for TV" event, but still, please try to maintain some dignity here... Wink

And no, as much as we love him, Rod cannot play for the USA.... Laughing

And if Team Canada is led by their best player, then I guess we should prepare for Zombie as Captain... Wink

He'd better win a few more tournies if he wants to claim that title...

BTW - someone better give Zombie his NAF access back if he's gonna be on the team Wink

My lord what we Canadians won't do to win a tournament Laughing Giving Zombie his access back. Why does that give me a cold shiver down the spine.

In all honesty though he has mellowed a little over the last two years. I think having a real job has changed him a little.

Zombie's won the Deathbowl, the Canadian Open, and placed pretty well at the other tournies where I see him play... while Steve's not been the most tactful or respectful on the boards, he is certainly a very fine tournament player....

as far as access returned, I'd consider any request, or ask the President to do the same....

That's like par for the course for most TBBF coaches.

I mean, our league only holds 16 of the top 20 Canadian spots (no thanks to me). Wink

Why ? The US love to send their marines everywhere in the world, dont they ? Wink

Seriously. The way we work in France is there is a captain elected through non-democratic process. If you ask everyone, you don't go nowhere.
Then the Captain makes a list of coaches he choses and calls them. Basically, when you go a bit far, it's those willing to pay for the trip that comes. But it depends on the offer/demand.
Get a captain and make him do the list. Captains also decide about orga and everything behind the scene.

See you there Cool

Hopefully, Some of us from the FNBBL could make it there.
We did have a good showing winning the first US team tourney (New World Cup).

Heck Ken only had a 60% win percentage in the league. The problem is bank rolling players to the UK. Hopefully we can swing something to help a team USA...

Have they put any thought into Spouse activities while we are partying and playing bloodbowl? Might help those of us with spouse to justify the trip. Smile

VTDoogie-
I have no business being on the team, but I may be planning on attending. Do you know if Skummy or Dave are planning on going? Are you?

Anyone commited to going at this point?

-Rob

P.S. There are still 9-10 months to go on this, but it'll be here before you know it and whoever is going will probably want to make travel plans 2-3 months in advance. Also, if there will be some follow-up fundraising effort...maybe other NA Tournies can roll that into their entrance fee.

P.P.S. With Cyberhare's retirement...what happened to the fundraising dollars that the NA Cup generated in 2006? Brian?

There are a few that have said they will be going and a list of hopefulls on the zlurpee forums. At this point everyone is welcome to be on the team.

He handed it off to me, and I passed it on to OMM. So the money is still around. I'll be doing some fundraising at the zlurpee bowl. I'm not sure adding it into the entry fees is a good idea though, as the money won't be benefiting many people.

Xtreme-

What I was saying here was not really a point for the attendees, but more for the TOs. Possibly donating 5% or 10% of the each attendee's entry fee toward the Team USA. It won't be much, but every dollar can help our young athletes a chance to compete! :RAH!: Surprised :RAH!: Smile

I mean it might be meaningful for people to know that they donated, but if the tourney was going to cost them X to begin with, it would be transparent to them.

Maybe have a spot at your tournies for auctions, etc...where proceeds can go to the travellers. I don't know...really just thinking out loud.

This is exactly what I am planning on doing at the Zlurpee Bowl this year, is having several items available in a silent auction with all the money going to the US world Cup team. Any left over giveaways I have this year may be sold online with the money going to the same fund as well.

I'll talk it over with OMM, but someone should step up and get things like this organized in general so interested parties can tell if they can afford to go or not.

No clue if any of the guys have thought about it. I'll mention it next time I see them. Not sure if they have the funds. I think I can swing it, but I normally go to VT football games and the schedule isn't fully laid out yet. If there is a conflict, then I will have to run it by the wife. If I can go, then I will definitely have to take the wife with me. Probably making it a week trip. Only question will be the who what where how....

All right Bryan - I'll contact each of the TOs for every North American tourney from now until October 1 to see what they can do to help the team. However I would like for you to be the treasurer of this effort. I don't want anyone suspecting I'm mixing funds when we raise thousands of dollars! How about an topic re: such on the Zlurpee forums with a Paypal button to let people contribute... you and I will have the passwords to whatever account you create and we'll go from there.

I'll put up the following at the TKC4 for auction:

complete set of BB magazines and books
Golden Goblin award winning Orc team from Budapest, Hungary

plus some other odds and ends....

Is that enough organization or what else would you like?

I just talked to my wife last night. I would like to go to the NAF World Cup for the US. I am not sure who is heading the team up, but I am already looking at flights and would like to book early. Whoever is leading the way here, if they could contact me, I would like more information. Also, if Allowed to be on the team, If anyone would like to split some costs with like sharing a room and whatnot, I am all for it. Expensive trip, but no problems on my end in going.

Someone please contact me via email,shennessy@wi.rr.com to discuss it. Also, in the email, if you could toss your phone number, or I could provide mine, would rather talk about it over the phone rather than emails.

Look forward to hearing from someone who is captain or leading the team or whatnot. Would like to get my plans finalized early.
