Post subject: Official NAF 2006 Legacy Team WIP Thread - NURGLE'S ROTTERS
Okay, the masses have spoken with one mostly confident voice, and they have proclaimed "NURGLE'S ROTTERS" as our 2006 NAF Legacy team.

Here's the 5th Edition list, which I think is probably the one we should shoot for:

      Code:
Qty  Title       Cost    MA ST AG AV    Skills
0-16 Rotters       40,000    5  3  3  8    Decay, Nurgle???s Rot
0-4  Pestigors       80,000    6  3  3  8    Horns, Nurgle???s Rot, Regeneration
0-4  Nurgle Warriors    110,000 4  4  2  9    Disturbing Presence, Foul
                  Appearance, Nurgle???s Rot,
                  Regeneration
0-1  Beast of Nurgle    140,000 4  5  1  9    Loner, Disturbing Presence,
                  Foul Appearance, Mighty
                  Blow, Nurgle???s Rot, Really
                  Stupid, Regeneration,
                  Tentacles

Here is a tentative list of who has mentioned being interested in contributing:

Milo - Rotter (#69)
?? TomB
?? nyarlathotep - Rotter (#13)
?? DiceOrDie
!! antipixi - Pestigor (#83)
!! Stratford
XX Musta Surma
?? Temujin71 - Nurgle Warrior (#71)

<> aerofool - Rotter (#66)
?? Xtreme - Rotter (#11)
!! Spazzfist - Nurgle Warrior (Bilerot Vomitflesh, #1)
?? Paul
?? Mootaz - Pestigor (#6)
<> misanthrope09 - Beast of Nurgle
XX Rune Master - Nurgling Turn/Reroll counters
?? Matt Robson - Rotter
?? KarlLagerBottom - Rotter
?? Tojurub - maybe
XX GalakStarscraper - Nurgle Warrior (with claw, #33)
<> Eggball - Rotter (#3Cool
<> LouisX - Rotter (#10)

Positional Counts:
---------------------
Rotter: 8
Warrior: 4
Pestigor: 4
Beast: 1

That's 20 of us, so easily enough to build a 16 man team and have some support staff. Let's claim some players! I think we should probably restrict ourselves to no more than N+2 of the positional players, where N is the maximum number of that position, since otherwise we won't have enough Rotters. (N+2 gives us a little flexibility so if someone doesn't get done, we still have enough of the positional players, plus giving whomever wins the team the chance to have some variety.)

If we don't have enough Rotters, I'll give the people who finish FIRST a chance to paint another figure for an extra chance to win the team, but only after we've left some time for late entry by new painters.

If you haven't posted here or PM'ed me to claim a player by September 8th, I'll remove your name from the list. (Just to clean it up, not that it can't be added back on later.)

The team should be painted in classic Nurgle colors -- pustulent greens, vomitous browns, ichorous yellows, rusted metal, etc. Player numbers should be painted in red on black backgrounds (to reflect the red/black scheme of the NAF.)

If you are planning to paint a Nurgle Warrior, do NOT use one of the Rotter figures from the Nurgle's Rotters team miniatures -- they will be used for Rotter figures and would be confusing to have two different positions represented by the same model.

Let's decide on this for color schemes:

We'll do the figures up in nurgle colors, as described in one of the painting guides I posted OR the one howlinggriffon suggested. I like the ease and look of Howlinggriffon's ( http://www.jeanfrancois.org/articles/articles_dgpainting.html ), but not everyone will have the exact paints and washes and inks that guy had, so some variance will be inevitable. Let's try to get something fairly close to the pictures from that article if possible.

Numbers should be painted in red on top of a black background. That can either be a shoulderpad painted black with red lettering, or red lettering on top of black lettering.

Paint the flag of your country somewhere on the base if you can.

Post picture here as soon as possible so that others can see them and try to mimic your colors and style.

Don't forget that nurgle teams can take mutations as general skills so adding a mutation to a positional could make it more usefel.

Should we do a specific color for the base? I'm thinking black, with our NAF psuedonym in red to keep with the NAF scheme

I had actually thought about it (after painting my team) that the plaguebearers would be good as the beastmen (now pestigors) because they fit the theme so well and already have the horn(s).

But that point aside I have a Bilerot Vomitflesh model or a spare rotter to throw into the mix. If I do Bilerot, I figure he should be a Nurgle Warrior.

One other thought I had is that we could maybe call the team "The NAF Plague-triots" and in the patriotic vein, we could all paint the flag of our country somwhere on the model itself. Spazz, I don't think I can paint the stars and stripes on any part of the mini -- I just don't have the talent. It's easier if you're, say, Italy or Germany.

One of the boons Papa Nurgle occasionally grants his most fervently feverish fanatics is the visage of a Plaguebearer, so I see no reason we can't use a Plaguebearer as one of the Warriors. They could also make good cheerleaders, or as an "Apothecary" (yes, I know, Nurgle Rotters don't get Apothecaries. It's tongue in cheeck.)

Misanthrope, I'll put you down for the beast, and Spazzfist, you can have one of the warrior slots.

It doesn't have to have all the stars and stripes, just do a white rectangle, paint in a few red stripes, add a blue rectangle in one corner and then pip it with white dots. As long as the idea is there....

Hey guys ... really really Important (at least to me). The new team roster in LRB 5.0 ... the old Rotters are meant to be the new Rotters. We than planned on people using Chaos Warriors painted in Nurgle colours or 40k Nurgle Warriors converted to be the Nurgle Warriors. So don't use an old LRB 4.0 Rotters figure as an LRB 5.0 Nurgle Warrior ... the scale will be off.

Also what is the deadline for this. I think I'm finally over the injustice that happened with the last Legacy team I helped with so I'd be interested in assisting. A Nurgle Warrior with Claw perhaps so we could have some mutation players.

Have we settled on a skin colour for the players? I think the team will look better if there is some consistency.

As for the flag on the bases, we could do that, but a small flag somewhere on the figure would suit the theme of the "Plague-triots".

Fine, but there are many different shades of green and brown. You might use snot green while I go for a dark angels green. Then if other people are doing various shades of green and brown and none match, then the overall result will look messy. Take a look at the dark elves on the TBB legacy team:

<insert link here when TBB is behaving>

What makes this team so nice is the consistency in the skin colours - it brings the team together.

Well for the skin tones I would vote to keep them light, this way the open sores and pustules can stand out more. If you have darker skin, then it will not show up as much.
Milo - Aug 31, 2006 - 01:21 PM
Post subject:
As regards Rotters, they come from primarily human stock infest by devotion to Nurgle. As such, I would expect they would probably match a range of skin colors available in humans, albeit probably paler than usual due to the infections. I wouldn't want to dictate specific colors because not everyone will be using the same sets of paints.

Does that make sense? Also, keep in mind that this is a Chaos team, and so would not normally be expected to match in any great degree, as opposed to an Elf team, where they care more about their appearance.

It would be helpful, though, for people to post pictures of their works in progress so we can try to match them as we go.

Personally, I plan to undercoat with Dark Angels green, and work up from that, with probably the top highlights in Scorpion green. I plan to use Rotting Flesh for the flesh color. But I've never painted Rotters before so I admit I'll be working on something new and don't know exactly how it will turn out.

I'd prefer some consensus around colours. You might get one fig that's sporting only yellow and brown, while the next one has just green and purple. The end result would certainly look suitably gross but it wouldn't be very uniform.

Spazz mentioned how the blue skin made the TBB legacy team look like a team. I was planning to paint the NAF crest on one of my Rotter's shoulderpads -- maybe we could use something like that to bring it all together....

In terms of the skin, I was thinking along the lines of Rotting Flesh like Milo. I'll be converting a WHFB zombie. Definitely agree with Tom that the Nurgle Warriors should ideally be big, sturdy fellows, like a shambling brick sh*thouse...

I was about to argue with you, then I remember that I was thinking about the LRB 4 Rotters who didn't wear that much armour. With the LRB 5 Chaos Warriors of Nurgle, they will be much more heavily armoured, and the red armour will look more suited to Khorne than Nurgle.

Maybe Rusty metal with red and black on the shoulder pads?

The last team I helped with was sold by the winner to another of the painters the day he won it and the rest of the painters didn't get a chance to purchase it instead (ie outbid him). I haven't participated in a legacy team since then.

But Milo is a standup guy ... so I'm willing to help with this one.

Milo put me down for Nurgle Chaos Warrior with Claws (I'm thinking Edward Scissorhands or Wolverine instead of the old lobster claw) ... #33.

Galak, I was planning to use one of the Rotter minis as my Rotter, and I know at least a couple of people who are doing Nurgle Warriors have specified that they were using WHFB minis, so I think that's already the plan. However, just to confirm:

If you are planning to paint a Nurgle Warrior, do NOT use one of the Rotter figures from the Nurgle's Rotters team miniatures -- they will be used for Rotter figures and would be confusing to have two different positions represented by the same model.

      Milo wrote:
Actually, I'd like the deadline be to get minis painted and postmarked by the end of November. That gives us three months from now to do the painting, and it gives me most of December to assemble the team and ship it to the winner, hopefully so they can have it DURING 2006.

      Milo wrote:
I agree Bilerot should be a Chaos Warrior.

The way i did mine was to put PVA on the base and then cover that in sand. Once dry, I painted it black and drybrushed it with bleached bone to give it some texture. I will add small clumps of static grass to it but I wanted to get some which was a light brown colour (I could use green static grass and drybrush it I guess...) I've painted the edge of the base with catachan green to make it look nice and murky - it does show off my username and country flag nicely though as I painted that in white. Absolutely LOVE the skin tone of your rotter! So much so that I am going to "borrow" the idea for my own team that I am doing up. (But they say that imitation is the highest form of flattery!) I will post pics when I have some more done.

The bright pink is such a stark contrast to the putridness of the model, that it really makes it that much more disgusting!

Very nice (and repulsive) job, Stout Youngblood!

@Spazzfist: Thanks! I guess the skin on my rotter looks kind of pink in the photos but it's actually pale purple. I used Liche Purple mixed with a bit of Codex Grey (maybe 5:1 or 4:1) and then added layers with increasing amounts of white, until the mix was nearly pure white for the top highlights. The guts are done with pink and grey though.

I will post some pics up of the models that I have done when I get around to basing them. Finished the third rotter (of six) tonight. Still have to base them however. (Hmmmm..... now I want to build a custom pitch for this team)!

Maybe I will go with the purplish hues for my pestigor (read - plaguebearer).

I've seen pictures of figures from longfang, misanthrope, Eggball, HowlingGriffon, all painted, and primed/converted minis from LouisX and aerofool. nyarlothep, and Xtreme I ran into at the Underworld Cup and they said (I think) that they had theirs about done. Plus there's my mini when I get him finished up. In addition to the two I had already, that should make 13 even if we get minis from no one else.

I do have PMs from Rune_Master, Galak, and Musta_Surma with their regrets for not being able to participate. It's okay, guys, life gets in the way for all of us sometimes.

That leaves the following as big question marks: TomB, DiceOrDie, Matt Robson, Mootaz, Paul, and Temujin71. Anyone know any of them to ask directly?

Mootaz is very active under the same nick on TBB. Maybe you should send him a PM over there. The same goes for MattRobson.

Yeah, by all means, keep it for reshipment. I had a devil of a time trying to figure out how to ship with his 'intestinal loop' hanging out. I tried to secure it a best as I could. Glad to hear he made it in one piece.

In today's mail: Rotters from both Longfang and Eggball, who seemed to be competing for the "most securely packaged mini" award. Both lads arrived safe and sound and are snuggled into a padded case with all their brethren.

I'll try to bust out my camera and get some pics of the lot tonight or tomorrow. Don't hold your breath. =)

Milo - Dec 18, 2006 - 09:43 PM

So far, I've got eight minis in: 3 Pestigors, 3 Rotters and 2 Chaos Warriors. (Longfang, is yours meant to be a rotter or warrior? I listed him as warriors since he's relatively unrotted... yet.)

LouisX and aerofool have posted pics of converted but unpainted minis. HowlingGriffon and Temujin have posted pics of fully painted Warriors. Misanthrope has posted pics of a painted Beast of Nurgle. I've still got to finish up my rotter.

If we get all of those but no more, we'll have 4 Warriors, 4 Pestigors, 5 Rotters and a Beast, which is a pretty good haul, all things considered.

LouisX, aerofool, how are yours doing?

Also, Xtreme, are you still planning to send one in?

Here's a pic of the minis that have arrived so far:

Well, I'm still waiting on the last few minis to come in from Misanthrope, Temujin and Xtreme. Then I'll handle the drawing. Given that we've already missed the deadline, I don't see any harm in allowing the last few to trickle in before making an announcement. I'll do another photo shoot once the whole team is together, too.

Milo,

http://www.irony.com/mailroll.html

I think this is probably the best method - assign each of the participants a number. Then you will need to collect all of our e-mail addresses. Set the dice roller to randomly determine a number which will correspond to the number of the participant. We will all then get an e-mail telling us of the result.

This way there can be no question of legitimacy or cheating, etc as it is a neutral program and a random generator.

The only problem that I can forsee is that it will not be able to randomly generate the numbers 11, 14, 15, 16. You can do 13 and 18. I am not sure how many people we have, but if it is say 14, then we could always have it generate up to the number 18 - you can tell it to roll two (or more) times) and then the first appropriate result will be the one that is accepted.

Hope this helps,

Spazz

or you could make a spreadsheet with everyone's names listed randomly, hide the sheet, password protect it, post it up, and have someone pick a number and then supply the password and everyone will be able to see who won

want me to do it?

Recent arrivals:

[l-r: Xtreme, Misanthrope, Nyarlathotep, Temujin71]

The entire team:

So far, we've received only 11 players. (Even I haven't finished mine.) Longfang has requested that he be excluded from the contest. That means that as it stands currently, everyone who submitted a mini has a 10% chance.

I have a spreadsheet ready to post and I can roll the winner, but -- would you guys rather open it back up for more people to submit miniatures, in hopes of having a bigger team? Or should I just go ahead and draw now? Any thoughts?
