Rules Questions - stand firm and strip ball

Post subject: stand firm and strip ball
ok,

strip ball knocks the ball out of a players hands on a push back result unless they have sure hands, but what about someone with stand firm? stand firm states that they completely ignore pushback results. does this inadverdently help against strip ball? stand firm doesn't say specifically that it does or is it implied? or does it knock the ball free in the square he is already in?
I would think that stand firm was not meant to protect against strip ball. am I wrong in this or is this something new to people? I can just envision all the blitzers running the ball with stand firm now getting alot tougher.

thanks

IMHO the ball would be "stripped" in the square he is standing. I believe the Stand Firm skill simply avoid the "movement" result of Push Backs, not the additional effect due to other skills.
The skill that counter Strip Ball is Sure Hands, and it clearly states so.

Never come across that one, but I too think the ball would be stripped. In my league we play that a player with frenzy gets a second block against a stand firm player, just as long as the result of the roll was a push back. Same sort of thing really.

Page 34 of the LRB:
"3. Some skills refer to pushing a player back in order
to work. These skills will work as long as you roll a
push back on the Blocking dice."

Thus Strip Ball will still work against a Stand Firm player if you roll a push back even though the Stand Firm player is not pushed back.

I must have overlooked that part.

Yeah, that's why I like Strip Ball...not many players take Sure Hands on their primary scorers...

I always do. Great skill.

Oh I agree...people in our league either take it or have it on their throwers, but the majority of the players they use to score with (which are the ones they throw to or hand-off to) don't have the skill.

i've noticed that most scorers are given catch if they don't have it already. i don't have either on mine since i for the most part have had very few SPPs to go around. lol
if i can get my emerging star player to 51 SPPs and he then gets a nondoubles skill, i will probably give him sure hands.

Strip Ball is clutch! Great for a defensive Bull Centaur and Sure Hands is a MUST for your Bull Centaur RB....what is this passing of which you speak? Wink

IMHO, Strip Ball is a mandatory first upgrade for Wardancers.

Don't get me wrong. I am hardly an elf lover (even though my wife coaches a wood elf team). However, Strip Ball on a Wardancer just opens up so many opportunities for the team.

I wasn't denying that. It's great on them. So's 6 feet of earth. If I had my choice, I know which way I'd choose.

hey now, lets not be so mean to the elves! you wouldn't hate them so much if you had agility four. Or if your orcs knew how to tie their shoe laces properly so they don't trip over themselves.
what I hate is when orc blitzers get agility four and then take dodge as a skill. it's like a poor mans wardancer. there is actually one orc team in the league I run that has two orc blitzers with dodge and one has an agility increase to boot.

personally, I would take sidestep over surehands first if given the option. nothing is more pleasing than to hear an opponent curse your player as he moves away from danger. Smile

better yet, he moves away the way YOU want!!!!!
I'm running a Snotling team now, and I can tell you, I drive my opponent crazy with ALL my team sidestepping away. Once, one of my players SIDESTEPPED thru 4 opponents, and in doing so passed its main line of defence during HIS turn Wink Razz
