If a thrown person hits a member of his own team and both fall over, is that a turnover?

Yes it is.

Whenever a thrown team-mate lands on his butt it is not a turnover unless he had the ball. this includes hitting other people.

Not true. Its a turnover if the thrown player had the ball or he lands on a player from his own team ... landing on players from the opposing team while not holding the ball will not be a turnover.

But when you hit one of your OWN players and knock him down, then it is a turnover.
Whenever one of your own players is "Knocked Down", you suffer a turnover. The thrown player is only "Placed Prone", but the player you landed on is "Knocked Down" and thus causes a turnover.

Something else it looks like I didn't notice, but just to clarify. A thrown player who fails his landing roll is 'placed prone'. So you don't make an AV roll for them?

and it doesn't end your turn (assuming they don't have the ball). So the player is free to stand up and perform an action?

You do make an AV roll for them. Placed Prone is a term used to show when a non-turnover fall occurs ...but depending on what caused the Placed Prone it may or may not have an AV roll (every time you see Placed Prone in the rulebook ... you'll also see it says specifically if the player rolls for AV or not.

Does not end your turn or prevent the player from acting. So yes he can stand up and pick up the ball and still score if your opponent left it on the ground near his endzone.
