Strategy and Tactics - Apothecaries and fanfactor in tournaments

Post subject: Apothecaries and fanfactor in tournaments
When playing in a tournament using LRB5 is it worth having an apothecary. I have never played using LRB5 and was suprised to find the way an apothecary is used has changed from rolling a D6 (1=fail) to being allowed to re-roll on the injury table.

I am playing in a few tournaments this year as pro elves and am unsure whether to buy an apothecary. It seems that in a tournament they are of no real value as all players are deemed fit for the next match anyway. Also, if you end up using an apothecary on one of your best players, you may roll a less severe result but they still end up missing the game!!

Secondly, is Fan Factor important in tournaments. I understand that the way its used on kick-off results has changed where you use FAME. Does fan factor have any real value in tournaments?

Apos are worthless in LRB5 tourneys. FF is somewhat important, but Assistant Coaches and Cheerleaders are more important now.

Apothecaries are useless. Not only are they less efficient (1/2 chance of succeeding instead of 1/6), the healed player goes in the reserves instead of staying on pitch. Get an extra line-elf if you have the 10k to spare.

ACs and CLs are more important than FF in tourneys IMO. I put all my extra money in ACs and CLs and keep a FF of 0 when I go to tourneys. Even with a couple of FF, you are far than guaranteed of getting the FAME bonus. While the ACs and CLs are a guaranteed bonus for the Brilliant Coaching and Cheering Fans kick-off events.

I changed the apothecary rules for my tournament to auto-succeed and leave the player on-pitch. We'll see how the change is accepted in May!

Dump your points into Cheerleaders and Assistant Coaches as mentioned above.
A lot more value game to game.

I'm hoping to run a tourney in March 2008, and I'll be using the LRB4 rules for the Apo.

Whilst agreeing that under LRB5 the Apo has become worse it's NOT true that the chance of healing a player is 1/2.
In fact, the chance to heal a player so that he can return into the reserves is 75%: When you use the Apo, the Injury-roll is rerolled and if the result before or after the roll is "Badly Hurt" the player goes into the reserves. So you have 50% (player BH) + 25% (50% player SI/Dead X 50% rerolling it to BH) = 75%.

To conclude, instead of 83% to remain on the field with the old rules has been replaced by 75% to go to reserves instead.

Just out of interested, why auto-succeed and not LRB4-Apo?

Cheers

Thought I would mix it up a bit. 50k for nothing useful just annoys me...

I might find that too many wardancers are coming back, but cest la vie. Just means you have to foul them to death twice...

Hey! If I bring down my rotters, can their 70K rerolls work automatically too? Razz

Sure! As long as your players don't have Loner, they can always re-roll their last dice!

It's an automatic thing! Laughing

Are you thinking of coming down for Stemfest?
