Hi All

Just wondering on who is going to Cancon 2008 for Bloodbowl. This will be the first year I compete in a Bloodbowl tourney (although I have had the game for years) and not sure what to expect.

Looking to take humans, and therefore probably looking to get smashed.

I have seen Bloodbowl played at Cancon previous years and love the boards that you guys play on. I thought it was about time I painted up a team and experienced the game at a con level.

Hope to see a full contingent there

Regards...

YES!

CanCon is on, and I am running it for the first time given our usual commissioner Babs is unavailable.

It will be an LRB5 progression tournament.

Download Flyer Here

That has all my contact details!

Registration will be via the Canberra Games Society (http://www.cgs.asn.au)

Cheers,
Clay

Howdy,

I'll be there this year, but I'm having a devil of a time deciding which team to bring.

I've been playing BB since second edition, but this will be my first tournament in many, many years, so I'm looking to have a really good time... Razz

Don't discount the humies - they are good generalists, and can be quite a force to be reckoned with.

I normally run a passing game but might try a hitting team for this.

Cheers

Great to hear there will be fresh blood! I've been playing for a few years now and CanCon is probably one of the most enjoyable weekends in my year.

Of course, in January 2008 my wife is going to be pretty heavily pregnant and is currently tossing up whether I'll be allowed out of her sight for the long weekend! Pray for me boys...

Oh, and while in the past my two core teams have been Necromantic and Dwarves, this year I want to take an Agility team so I am planning on Dark Elves (hey, just 'cause it's agility I still need my frenzy!)

Hi all,

Just a few things to note re CanCon 2008.

This will be an LRB5 tournament with all the rules EXCEPT Special Play Cards.

It will be progression hence inducements etc will be allowed.

Star Players cannot be purchased in your starting $1M team.

There will be no reset rules. If you get trashed, you play with the free (non-TV counting) journeymen and inducements.

Tournament will be the traditional 7 game Swiss.

No Blacklisting! You will be randomly drawn game 1 and the tourney will be Swiss onwards from there.

I will be publishing the points system etc when I have finalised it.

Ok. I am new to the whole to the whole Blood Bowl at a con aspect. what is the Swiss, or where can I go to find out more on this?

Also, I take it there is a minumum 1 Fan factor yes?

Never played with inducements, as I have always had my own house rules. Time to go back to the rulebook.....

Hey Frogbear,

Swiss means essentially "winners play winners" for 7 rounds... so come round 7, the ideal (albeit it never happens this way) is that the Top 2 undefeated teams square off for the final Smile

And in LRB5, Fan Factor of ZERO is allowed. You dont have to have a starting FF.

Clay... Don't Journeymen actually count towards your TV.....

Ooh, so they do!

Just reread the rule... I gave my last league opponent a free kick there...

Sorry all Smile

Hi All

Preparing for this tourney I have found that my skill at this game was not what it was from version 2. It appears humans are a very hard team to play effectively and a coach who can play them effectively against all other teams is quite a skillful human being. It appears I am not one of them at the moment (well not anymore)

Anyone have any ideas on the team for a less than skillful player to take and to still have fun with - I am sick of fielding only 8 men a turn after the hitty teams are finished with me after the 1st half. I am leaning towards Orcs. Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance...

Humans are the a-typical "average" team.

When playing Humans, try to pass the agile style game against the bash teams and try to play the cage / bash game vs the elf types...

It is important that you dont get into a bashing war with an Orc/Dwarf/Chaos Dwarf opponent.

For a starting TV $1M roster, surprisingly enough Amazons are quite strong. Able to avoid bashy opponents with their dodge skill (allows them to get away AND saves them on the POW! result) they are a tough team to beat... your only fear is Dwarf teams, but Zons are very good from the get go.

If you like to hit things though, Orcs are good as are Norse... I'd be careful about playing Dwarves however because they require patience that many new players get caught out on.

My advice - play a few games with a variety of rosters and read some tactical articles - plenty to be found via Google.

Good Luck!!

Yeah I'd say Orcs are well balanced and strong for a returning newbie'ish player, while as long as you are prepared for a bitchslap against dwarves, I agree with Clay that Zons are a very good starting team and well suited to this tourney, you'd be surprised how hard zons hit at low TVs as well

Yeah

I never really liked the idea of Amazons (everyone with Dodge) nor did I like the idea of Norse (all with Block). Just a traditionalist view I guess. Then again, the game was pretty broken back in the version 2 edition.

I think Orcs it will be for now. Going to try a few games playing with BB Java and get some tactics happening. Can't wait...

All,

Just a plug that I am posting info re CanCon over on the AusBowl forum...

http://www.ausbowl.com/index.php?name=ForumsPro&file=viewforum&f=37

Whilst not denigrating the NAF forums, the BB advert in the CanCon entry book refers to the AusBowl site and hence all official CanCon BB announcements are over there...

Plus, its a great Aussie site in general!
