Painting - My Norse, well kinda norse, team

Hey there BB fans,

Was introduced to BB a couple of years back and really got into it for a couple of months before I had to leave overseas for a year or two. Now that I am back I have decided to stop playing with lego proxies (as cool as they were) and start playing for real. Only problem is I have only ever assembled & painted 1 miniature before and that was a 40k Space Marine.

My solution to this problem? Paint up a practice team of Space Marines as norse to get some practice painting before actually building and painting up my Necromantic team (I'm terrified of having to paint skin tones and this is to build a little confidence first.)

Well here is my results. Paint work is pretty poor and only 70% finished at this point but feel free to comment.

Lineman

Basic guy, used a little bit of green stuff to get his hand to try and look like he is fending someone off.

Berzerker

Different helmet and a stormshield to represent his Frenzy ability. Backpack is meant to represent the Jump Up ability.

Thrower

My one concession to Norse sensibilities, a Spacewolf head on my thrower (note: space wolf head not currently attached)

Runner

When I decided this idea I hadn't read up on the rule changes so I was under the impression that these guys were still catchers, thus the large power fist. Regardless it works well enough to show Dauntless and a Backpack (not attached) with extra vents are meant to represent the extra square these blighters can run.

Snowtroll

Not currently painted, just practiced drybrushing on him. He has a larger Terminator body to represent his Big Guy status, the Lightning claws for his Claws ability though I can't think of anything for his Disturbing Presence, Wild Animal or Frenzy though I am not entirely sure I need anything more.

This is probably the team I will be taking to Eucalyptus Bowl in Oz later this year as my Necro team gets built after I finish building my stadium case inspired/hopelessly cribbed from Virral ( http://www.bloodbowl.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=3917 ) But as stated, need to finish paiting them up and getting their shoulder pads numbered and NAF'd.

So, feel free to offer advice, criticism or mention how having Norse in armour goes totally against their basic ethos and I should be dragged out to the street and shot.

Also a bonus point for the first one who can identify where the colour scheme is from, c'mon it is easy.

They have a lot of armour for norse guys!

Well thay aren't a very usual sight in BB pitches but its not the first time I see space marines playing the game!
If they are a way to practice your painting, I think you should try to go for more detail, even if in the end you dont love the result, as in other thinks painting is all about practice.
For example, paint the little winged skulls in "flesh", and dry brush them in "white", do the same in the purity seals (there's one in the shield), etc...
Good luck and keep us posted!

Cheers

My god they are ugly. Sorry to say so - but anyone who says anything else are lying.

I like the concept (in an 'as long as my league players don't see this and get ideas' kind of way). And I do think the models are in the right positions for the team (except that shield, but then I can't think of another way to represent a bezerker).

But I really do love that colour scheme Very Happy

Hey there, thanks for the replies guys.

Axtklinge: Am trying out the white-on-flesh look for the skulls and seals. Will post pics for advice at a later date.

AlexBware: While I appreciate your frank candour, have you actually got any advice to give?

thechosengobbo: I promise not to encourage your league mates to foray into the 40k. Cheers though for what you said about their positions.

Dude what a wild idea you have given me for a future Blood Bowl league. Just for fun, but what a blast to play test teams from the 40k range.

Never look down on any painting you do. We all have to start from somewhere. Love the colour scheme. There is alot of good websites out there for painting on every level. Myself I have always found the best is going to tournaments / stores / clubs and talking with people that have been painting for awhile and asking questions. The sign of a good painter is one that will be willing to share techniques and ideas.
After many years of trying to win the Best Team award at the tournaments that I went to, it finally happened. All my hard work payed off and finally won. I would always ask the previous winners advice, ideas, etc and worked with that.
Keep up the good work.

Would like to see the team when it is finished.
