Sounds lke a great idea - unfortunately, I think the chances of me making it are slim to none. So rest easy Ottawa boyz, Spazz is not going to be stealing your trophies away on this one.....

Post subject: RE: The Dagger Bowl Ottawa May 31st 2008
Sorry to hear that Spazz.

We don't necessarily expect big numbers what with it just being 4 games but we hope a few people will enjopy the more relaxed atmos, and reall down time at the end of saturday. Mark's wife is away too so we don't have any constraints once the games are done.

Post subject: RE: The Dagger Bowl Ottawa May 31st 2008
I think it is a great idea, and I would have been there forf sure was it not such a long drive for me. I think now that there seems to be a resurgance of Blood Bowl players coming back into the fold, giving some people the one day tourney might be just the thing for them - and for the Blood Bowl junkies like me it would mean a chance at a quick tourney in between the big ones!

Now all we have to do is get someone to do one more locally....

Post subject: RE: The Dagger Bowl Ottawa May 31st 2008
Curoious, are you going to go all out for the trophies like you did for the CCKO, or keep it more simple?
Notorious_jtb - Apr 25, 2008 - 05:36 PM
Post subject: RE: The Dagger Bowl Ottawa May 31st 2008
It is going to be a bit more of a simple event. To reflect its one day status, as you say it is trying to fill a gap in the market for those people who a two day commitment is too much and want to play in a tournament and junkies who want to play as much as is (un)humanley possible.

It is Dwarfrunner's baby so all the other stuff is down to him, I am just helping promote and taking home first place, obviously Wink

I'll go if I can get a ride & my ride does not mind leaving the Falls after 11:30pm Friday... (to my potential driver get some sleep before we leave, (I'll pay my share of gas money (even if more) & I'll pay for all coffee or energy drinks or whatever you need to stay awake),,,,,

115 roster, is there any upgrades once the tourney starts?

If I can make it, it may be worth bringing my skaven to. (mind you I have only played Joe twice (1st. time my Orcs in 7's (I hate 7's BB!!!!)

Due to the rules I started one man down... (final score Orc vs Orc lost, I think 2-1 or 3-1)...

Second game in round two at the Death-Bowl last October (the Year of the Ogre), my very skilled lizards verses Joe's odd man out gobbos (a roster that I orriginally created for myself, but that Glenn Jones & Rob Pharand improved it more....) we tied 1-1 (we were both ranked 1st & 2nd before that game (he was 1st & I was 2nd)) I have yet to play Joe in a regular game & I think I can beat him.

Rod

As far as the rest of the Ottawa crowd , I have never played Mark D'agistino (spelling) or Glenn Jones, I did just play against Adam Jones at the 'CoQ IV' but being Orc vs Lizardmen on the Chaos Dwarf Pitch I was at a huge disadvantage from the get go....& not counting his Saurus intercepting the pass..... (I look forward to the regular game matchup to actually bash skulls with him....) As far as Marc-Andre goes I have beat him in the opening rounds of the Stunty Cup III & Stunty Cup IV (but they to most people are useless wins) In regular Bloodbowl, I have a Tie (1-1 my Orcs vs his Dark Elves, & a 3 or 4-1 loss with my Orcs vs. his Skaven.....

I have had other Ottawa action some good some bad but nothing recent......

Wow Rod, that is quite a convoluted way of saying you are gonna kick all our pansy Ottawa asses at the Dagger Bowl Laughing

I don't know about the "in tournament improvements", Mark D'agostino hasn't told me about that section of the rules. I suspect there will be something going on though.

It would be fun if you can make it Rod, and would be good to beat you in a regular game so you can stop complaining about the rule set Wink

Well myself I will not be able to make it out for this one. Will be holding a BB tourney at my local store on the same day. Main idea is to try and get some more players from the Montreal area to come and play and to show them what the tournament style gaming is like.

Well where do we begin, Joe you've got it twisted. Your out of practice after running away to France for the Qermitt and if I'm not mistaken you've never beaten me, but I remember taking you out in the semi's of our league. Rod, hope you do make it down so you'll have no "disadvantages" to whine about when I spank you this time around...lol. You liked that Saurus pick, it was beautifulllllll!!!, Take it easy guys, hope to see you the next week at Bongo as well.

Hello all, thanks JTB for starting the thread.

As Joe mentioned, I was just planning on this being a small one-day tourney. If people from outta town want to come down great, I actually have 3 spare beds in my place, plus additional floor space if people want to crash here. I was planning on keeping it simple, but a Glenn Jones trophy may be present at the awards ceremony, just cuz he is so damn good at it.

Rod: I was initially going to not have any player upgrades during the tourney, but I have softened my stance on that and will probably have something. Once I finalize the ruleset then you will have your answer.

I will post the ruleset soon, so people can get a better idea of the whole tourney.

I know what you mean Rod, I have yet to play you in a tourney. Or even JTB for that fact. Tourney's are great for meeting new opponents, but I seem usually end up playing similar coaches, guess you should just win more Rod so you are up at the top of the rankings with me. I will add that I have a winning record against Spazz, so I can see why he doesn't want to come up and play in my tournament. I am still waiting for Taxal to play his halflings again so I can get retribution for the tie which should have been a win for me if not for riots cancelling half the game.

Hey Mark, just looking for the final rules for this one day tourney as I plan on being in on it and have already formed a roster without additional skills, will you be including skills or not so I can finalize roster. Would love to have Rod and Eric come up for this too, more people to bash skulls with the better. If you can't make it hope to see you at Bongo the following week. Qermitt was awesome and if we could get that kind of turnout for all Ontario/Quebec tourney's would be good for all involved...PS saw preview of New PC/XBOX Game coming out, looks amazing, will definitely be getting when it comes out.

The chances of me making it out are still very slim, but if Eric is going then that makes it slightly more possible (provide he is willing to drive me!) Don't worry though guys, I doubt I will be able to make it out there to school you bitches!

Dammit, you mean I bought all that Febreeze for nothing to cover over the Spazz-odor.

Hey Joe,

I believe Glenn will be playing too, I remember Rod wanted to come down to play but was looking if anyone else was going to come down with him. Other than that I think you have mostly everyone. Taxal is running something similar in Montreal that same day so that probably counts him and Patrick out.

Spazz, no worries about this time. I am planning on running this two times a year, since these one-day tournies are easy to run and I don't need tons of time to set-up so I can plan it when there is a lull between other tourney's. I am thinking I may do another one in November after Deathbowl to give one last tourney before the end of the year.

I think everyone has an equal playing field. I am curious to see if anyone brings halflings. With 2 treeman, deeproot and the chef. You can give some opponents some serious headaches. I want to see Cramy bring Dark Elves too. ;P

Too bad Spazz you'll have to suffer those nightmares one week longer but in a way you'll suffer one less embarrassing defeat at the hands of me too, if that's any consolation. I'll bring a soother with, just so you have something to calm you down after your loss...Anyhow look forward to crushing you all horribly,

I'd say that with the reduced cost in Big Guys, those teams that can field a Big Guy has to purchase one mandatory (*spelling*) !!! (Basically to stop the cheese heads like Marc-Andre that when playing Skaven never take Rat Ogres, or Joe B, when playing Orcs never takes Trolls. (with a bonus 150k to spend, you know they will still cheese out & not buy the big guy despite the 50% discount.)

(In fact, & again just a suggestion (probably for next year) limmit the team selection to teams that only have selection to Big Guys) "Maybe not a good idea" (just thinking of ideas that go along with the flavour of your tournament.)

But as the tourney stands right now I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINALLY A TOURNEY THAT GOES BACK TO THE BASICS!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I think no upgrades throughout the tourney would be best!)

Bring your best 5.0 115TV Roster with 50% discount on Big Guys excluding the Ogre team!

I know my team (unless you are allowing upgrades, & in my opinion you should not) I will announce my team once I get final confermation on if there will be between game upgrades or not.)

Rod

P.S. Put me down as a for sure, & put Joe M. as a most deffinate maybe.... Joe M. NAF name is Grell

I have a feeling the games may be a little more out-of-control than usual. I still want someone to bring halflings, just to see the problems three treeman can cause.

I am not to worried about the Goblins, with all the bigs guys, they will go squish even faster.

Now I just need to stop by Home Depot and pick up some stuff to make a gaming table. How big a table would I need to make for two BB games? 4x8 should be big enough.

When I make the boards I make them 24"x32", so that would mean butting up against each other you would need 48 " of width - but then allow room for dugouts, drinks, and Little Pup's horseshoes, then 8' should be about right. Better to have too much space than not enough, and you can always cut it down if need be.

Treemen. Bah. All you need is the right tools and they'll go down quickly enough. Wink

But seriously, Flings are not as much fun in LRB5 compared to LRB4. I think that they are planning on some improvements for them in LRB6, which will make them fun again.

Goblns are the stars now. They'll take home the Dagger-Bowl trophy I tell ya.

Both Fri. and Sat. The travel plans Rod and I have we will be in Ottawa around Midnight Friday (alot earlier than initially exspected) and leaving Sunday. I was wondering if it was alright if we showed up at your doorstep at midnight friday?

Some has to ask I guess I'll take the burden on, but Adam Spazz what's with you two & Puppy talk?

Is there some kind of Puppy Love between you two?
Maybe you two just like it Doggy or Puppy Style?
Was a Kinship formed between you in a Kennel?
Maybe you two just like to Pound in the Pound?

Whatever it may be I think its best you two keep it in the Dog House (or in your case Puppy House)

Hey Spazz, tourney went down like this:

Rod finished in first with a 3-1 record, but was almost trumped by Eric with a one turner by the halflings on the last turn. Mike Olsen, Joe, and Myself all finished with 2-1-1 records, Joe and Myself tied on everything (TD & Cas +/-) and all other tie breakers. Don't know exactly what Mike's stats were but I think we both had more td's and casualties. Eric and Marc-Andre were tied for the SPOON Feeding but I don't know tie breakers for them. Was good times though. Need a few more people next time but overall it's all about getting some gaming in. Anyhow, next week should be fun also. Glenn, Joe, and myself will be there for sure tryin' to get at least one more but departure time may be an issue, will see how the week play's out.

Take it easy,

Adam

Thanks To Mark for a fun Tourney, it was fun to basically play a game with the basics again. Thanks Mark for opening up your home to us, although the turnout of 6 was small, it was a great crowd.

I played Skaven.

My game recap was as follows.

1) vs Adam J. (Dwarves) , I won 3-1 (won Cas 2-0)
2) vs Mike O. (Norse) , I won 2-0 (tied Cas 2-2)
3) vs Joe B. (Chaos Dwarves) , I lost 1-2 (lost Cas 1-4)
4) vs Eric R. (Halfling) , I won 2-1 (won Cas 1-0)

So a 3-0-1 record & a very tight standing, but alas I won the tourney.

I think the overall standings were

W-T-L

1)Rod D. 3-0-1
2)Mike O. 2-1-1
3)Joe B. 2-1-1
4)Adam J. 2-1-1
5)Marc-Andre 0-2-2
6)Eric R. 0-1-3

A very fun time by all, & I hope more attend next year....

Thanks too all that attended.

Thanks to all for coming out, hope everyone had as fun a time playing as I did running. All in all, it went the way I would expect, and the teams were pretty equal, even the halfling and goblin teams were in the mix pretty well. Maybe some minor tweaking to the rules (mostly tie-breaker stuff), and a more stringent review of team rosters before the games start (ahem..... jrock56). But all in all, a pretty easy tourney to run.

Thanks to Rod and Eric for driving down, my pleasure to let you crash at my place. The 5am soccer tounrey was a little much, the 3am tourney the next night wasn't much better. Rod's ramblings were pretty entertaining, a little confusing at times, but still entertaining none the less.

Wish I had played, but watching was just as fun. Rod had the standings listed above are correct, Eggball slipped into 2nd with some solid play and a bonus sportsmanship point, so congrats there.

Shhh, Joe was not supposed to know, HAHA, it was actually a test input since I had never done it before. But I hit a weird glitch and I can't erase it now. I asked NAF to fix it.

Anyways, see you all at the Lakeside likely, since I won't be able to make the Bongo.

Cheers for hosting mate. It was a blast, especially the pre tournament Fifa competition Smile

Chaos Dwarfs are a lot better than I gave them credit for. I can take some joy from having beaten the winner Rod, who managed to get me to drink a beer, which is quite the thing.

team fifa, that could be pretty ace.

Glenn has a Xbox we could get him to bring his controllers over next time................

I think I will have to put that in the works. A Dagger Trophy, FIFA trophy, and overall champion.

Next time I will plan better to ensure we have sufficient controlllers. And yes, everyone will have to use the same settings, so Byers can't f@ck everyone up by changing them. And then subsequently whopping Rod's a$$.
Eric.R. - Jun 04, 2008 - 12:10 PM

We gotta has a Best (or more properly: Worst) Own Goal. That way Rod and I have a chance at a trophy.
Clan_Skaven - Jun 04, 2008 - 12:34 PM
Post subject:
Also if lets say we get like 8 ppl, we should have em paired into 4 teams but based on Dagger standings....

example ......

Lets say the at the time of fifa challenge the standings in the dagger bowl were

Glenn
Joe B
Rod
Eric
Marc-Andre
Mark D
Mike O
Adam

So the teams would be 1&8 2&7 3&6 4&5

Glenn-Adam
Joe B-Mike O
Rod-Mark D
Eric-Marc-Andre

What do ya think?

COuld we workable Rod yeah.

I never changed anybodies controls Mark. The computer assigns configurations, we just didn't know how to alter them at the start.

I played most of a game hitting cross instead of shoot cos my controls were set reversed fromt he rule book!!!!!
Daggers - Jun 04, 2008 - 02:28 PM

Eric, that would be entertaining, but it should be "Best Uintentional Own Goal", as sad as it is that we are giving a trophy out for making youself look bad.

Rod, like the idea. We will have to see who shows up next year, if the numbers work then that should be doable. Makes it interesting since you have to work with a teammate in FIFA.

Joe, you say your controls weren't right, but you still managed to trounce Rod 7-1, twice if I am not mistaken.
jrock56 - Jun 04, 2008 - 06:45 PM

Hey Rod, you made one mistake with regards to your FIFA teams, I would never be in eighth position... I don't finish last in tourneys and will never have a wooden spoon award. I could take a team of all snots and would still not finish last. Are you kidding me?
Although me and Glenn would stomp all of you at any sports game of your choice if you teamed us together.

Thanks again Mark for hosting the tourney last weekend, was a blast. Hope more will come out next time.

Adam.
