Post subject: Rat Ogre 4:th Skill.
After last night game against Undead my Rat Ogre got his 4:th skill.

He has: +1AV Block and Guard

Rolled: 4+6

And now I dont know what to pic. If it was only a regulare skill then my plan was Stand Firm, but now I´m very temped to take AV. A AV of 10 is nasty.

What do you think, should i take AV or go with my old plan and take Stand Firm? Pherhaps you have another skill I havent thought about.

I would take the extra armour now that you've rolled it. You might not be so lucky next time and it's better to be safe than sorry. Armour 10 can be hard to crack some times.

Yeah, and then he gets taken down with a Claw! Laughing

I think a lot depends on what other things you have going on in the league. Stand Firm would be a solid choice for him - works with his Frenzy, Guard and Prehensile Tail!

There is two players with claw (Nurgel has one and another "rat pack", thats a monster, Claw, Juggernaut, Piling On AG and Guard.

If I go with Stand firm and he survives to another skill and thats not a double I´ll take juggernaut so I realy get into them cages. And if it is a double I go with the tentacle. I´ll gues thats what you have in mind Spazzifist?

If I go with AV I will problebly take dodge on a double and grab if its a normal skill.

Hmmmm

Consider what role you have for him. My Rat Ogre usually plays one of two roles. Either a Blitzer, or a Blocker.

If you want to use him as you main Blitzer, then AV10 is not as good. You will want skills like Juggernaut (for obvious reasons) and Break Tackle to free yourself-up from fodder. Ideally you don't keep him in harm's way.

If you want to use him as a Blocker (my preference), then AV10 is good as you will be putting him in harms way. And AV10 on a Blocker with Block and Guard is good. Move/Blitz him in position, and then use the Tail to get players to stay stuck there. Then hit next turn. Stand Firm makes sure that you don't get pushed away. On doubles, although Tentacles is quite good for this role, I really like Pro. I played in a tournament where all big guys had Pro, and it made a huge difference. If you do this though, you probably want to get more guard on the team to help him out. AV10 means that he's unlikely to get hurt, but putting him down is still problematic.

Another note. How many games left in the league? If it is perpetual, then AV10 (depending on the above). If the league is close to over, then get a skill that helps him now.

I think, given the Av he's already got I'd take another. A Strength 5 Av10 Block, Guard (Stand firm next) with prehensile tail too should really help protect the rest of your team from getting hurt.

I also would take the +1AV - it's too good to resist.

Ok. I took AV and got run over bad tonight against necro (forgot there they had claw also, but there are still only two teams with claw skill, the nurgle claw guy didnt make it the laste game, thihi). Tonights game ended 2-4 in score and 1-9 cas, one wherewolf had the hapy hour all game. But only two seriously. And no nigling or - Smile

But if he will survive the next skill is stand firm? On a double then? Dodge, Tentacle, Pro?

On a double I'd take Claw Smile

You think. Hmm I dont know, I have a blitzer with claw and not that many ssp left for his third skill (Claw, & Piling On) and then he will get MB.

Maybe I´m kinda blind after playing against Nurgel and allwas got stuck in their Tentacles that I want it for my self to.

But Claw is so nice, I know. But anyway with my luck he will probebly die before he gets there and if he do I probebly dont roll a double.

On a double, since he already has block, I'd take Pro to go the safe route.

If you plan to take Stand Firm, Tentacles is good.

If you plan to take Break Tackle, then Dodge is good.

Claw could be good as well if you use him as a blitzer.

Block, Frenzy, Mighty Blow, S5 - all that screams "blitzer" to me. Tentacles is really best against flair teams and I've never really thought Skav's needed much help in that department.

Pherhaps youre right. But in th league we have basicly every team exept Halflings, Chaos Dwarfs and Underworld Team,

Then maybe its about the teams you think beat you most often (or coaches). If they prefer bash team then Claws is the obvious counter skill, if they prefer flair then Tentacles.

Yup, but there´s about 50/50 in the different between the teams (bash/flair). But I have left the thought for now. It still atleast a couple a weeks away.

Yes, but Loner, Wild Animal (to some extent), Prehensile Tail and Block and S5 also scream "road block" to me.

For Wild Animal, it's a double-edged sword. It is easier to blitz than move, but I hate losing my blitz because of a failed wild animal roll.

In the end though, I think that the way a Rat Ogre should be developed depends on how you develop your Blitzers and what types of teams you have problems with as Doubleskulls states.
