Rules Questions - Terribly sorry...

To ask this one...
An event occured in my league, I'm sure I'm right, but I can't find it on the forum. I read the book, I think it's clear, but the players involved didn't think so.

Situation: failed pass, not fumbled. We scatter three times, the ball is landing to a square adjacent to intended receiver, which doesn't have Diving Catch. We still have to bounce it. My take is: the ball touches ground, so whatever happens, it's a turnover.

Rulebook reads "... ball comes to REST...» (I don't have it handy right now), so players think they still got a shot at pursuing their turn if ball bounces in his player's hands and catch is made, since it hasn't come to rest, merely touched ground.

Can I get confirmation please? It seems I have no credibility within my own league! Smile

TURNOVERS
If a ball thrown by a player isn’t caught by a player from the
moving team, this causes a turnover and the moving team’s turn
ends. The turnover does not take place until the ball finally
comes to rest. This means that if the ball misses the target but is
still caught by a player from the moving team, then a turnover
does not take place.
The ball could even scatter or bounce out of
bounds, be thrown back into an empty square, and as long as it
was caught by a player from the moving team then the turnover
would be avoided!

Hence no turnover

Really? Wow. I'm dumbfounded. I really thought that as soon as it touches ground, play was over.

It's been this way since 3rd edition:
P.13 of the 3rd ed handbook, bottom right under Turnovers.
