Post subject: Block assit rule for defensive players....
We jsut started up a league and we have a argument about block assit and witch player can assist or not, so here it is...
for exemple i have this set up on the field (B=beastment ST3, C=Chaos warrior ST4, H=human lineman ST3)

HH
H
BCB

so the C chaor warrior is blocking the H human lineman in front of him (he get's asssit from the two ''B'' beastmen (so ST 4+1+1=6) but to the two H human linemen in the back can assist the H that has been blocked by the C??? so for the human i get ST 3+1+1=5...(so two attach dice) or no they cant's asssit cause they are not adjacent to the atackers...
please help us out on this!

They can't assist. To give defensive assists they would have to be in the CW tackle zone.

Also, unless your diagram came out wrong, only the B on the left of the screen can give an assist, as the B on the right is not in the H TZ.

To get 2 assists

BCB

OK, Wolfpack_99 has PM'd me looking for a definetive answer somewhere on a website, as he has one of those disbelieving commishes.

Not sure about websites, but this is direct from the LRB 2.0, P.21

The attacking coach must declare if any of his players
will give an assist first, then the defending coach may
add defensive assists with players from his team. In
order to make an assist, the player:
1. Must be adjacent to the enemy player
involved in the block, and...
2. Must not be in the tackle zone of any other
player from the opposing team.
3. Must be standing.

Look at point 1. To give an asist the player "Must be adjacent to the enemy player involved in the block, and...". That's pretty clear, so in your example above, only Beastman on the left can assist.

Tell your doubting Thomas commish that this is the proper way of working out assists, as played by 180 coaches at the BB tournament alone. This under the watchful eye of JJ himsef, so I think it's the way he intended Wink

I thought there was an 'assist' calculator somewhere, but I couldn't find it. The disbelieving commish has got to get with the program here - any commish in our league tried that - out of town on a rail! (Just kidding . . . I'm sure he's not trying to give WP a hard time intentionally - understanding the block/assist is tricky at first).

Darkson has it right - in particular reread the rules. To assist you must be next to the opposing player involved in the block (you example has it next to your own player).

Don't feel bad. When we first went from Second Edition to Third Edition, we misread the rules this way for the first half of our game. Something didn't seem quite "right" about the way people kept pushing other people in the back to "assist" them - but it sure seemed damn funny! Laughing

Hey, it was our first night of Third Edition! This was a few months after it debuted. (Another shock: I didn't know it was out at the time.)

I knew I shouldn't have let Aaron read the damn rules in the first place, shoulda kept 'em myself Wink

Full marks to the Tut for publicly acknowledging membership in the human race - it's when BBRC members (or any rules/judge/administrator ad infinatum) forgets this basic tenet that I worry.
