Post subject: Amorical Cup 2017 (previously NATC) bidding process
The following document should be pretty self-explanatory, but in brief we're opening the bidding process for next year's Amorical Cup (as the North American Team Championship will now be known).

Amorical Cup: Request for Bids

For examples of what your bid documents might look like, you can check out the one that won the previous NATC:
http://www.thenaf.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/natcbidvegas2013.pdf
or the whole packet of bids for World Cup 2015:
http://www.thenaf.net/downloads/private/World%20Cup%20Bid%20Document.pdf (fairly large download)

Any questions can be posted here. Thanks!

Putting this out there now, if there's a group/groups putting together a bid for running one of these.

I'm In.

I know Zip all about running one, or organizing something like this. But if you need a worker bee and can give good directions on WHAT you need done. I'm In.

Tournament Side, I'd >love< to play, but I know how hard up a convention can be for staff and volunteers.

What I HAVE done, is help with my local sci-fi convention (MarsCon, in Willliamsburg VA) as labor and volunteering. I have helped with doing setup and take-down. Some Con-Suite help (tho I don't know how "normal" a Con Suite would be for something like this), as well as helping with Registration & Check-in.

Sorry, missed this message earlier. Bids are due on June 10th; several are expected.

What places have submitted bids?

I don't expect any bids until the due date. The potential organizers I've spoken with (half a dozen or so) are generally on the East Coast or in the Midwest. I don't want to get too specific just in case they eventually decide against bidding.

I would like to have the winning bid selected by the end of June.

Due to (possibly unwarranted) concerns that we won't receive enough bids to create a competitive selection process, we are extending the bid deadline by one week.

Bids are now due on June 17th.

Just as an update to the public, bids were received from Dallas, Texas; Richmond, Virginia; Schenectady, New York; and Toronto, Ontario.

Thanks to all the TO teams for putting in the bids. Looking forward to attending where ever it might be.

When is the event?

Post subject:
It's projected for late May or early June of next year. Exact date will depend on availability of the selected venue.

The site for the Amorical Cup 2017 will be Richmond, Virginia. Date and details to follow ASAP.

The selection process was very tightly contested, requiring a tie-breaking vote in the end. This is reflective of the quality of the bids; I can honestly say that I would have been glad to attend any of the prospective tournaments that they described.

The final ranking was:

1. Richmond, VA
2. Toronto, ON
3. Schenectady, NY
4. Dallas, TX

Congrats to Richmond and thanks for everyone's kind responses.
Hopefully next time I'll have more time and energy to put into a better bid. Dallas deserved better, but really, what do they expect form an Okie? hehe
Good luck and hope to be able to make it to the event.

Thanks everybody for the congrats! We are already planning to make this an awesome experience for everyone, especially for those who have to travel quite a ways. I can honestly say that we all here in Richmond are honored by no only the voters, but the competition, as well! You guys are amazing and so are your cities! Soon we will post up the relevant information so you all can start planning. We are also in talks of getting a website up soon as well. Thanks again to everyone and we hope to see as many of you here as possible!

So far, we have a website up amoricalcup.com, and you can preregister there as well. Note for now that the preregister will take no money yet. Right now it will add you to a list of emails so any new information we get will be sent to you. We are finalizing certain things now. concretely, we have our venue, the website, and soon, the rules as created by the steering committee. Check out the site for now and soon a lot of things will be springing up!
