Painting - When you think you're good...

You're not!

I've finally been able to take some decent pictures of my new Chaos team and am utterly dissapointed with the paint job done on it.

Should this be a reason to try harder? Of course!

Anyways, I'll show you a nice, clear, crisp, (my first time ever) picture of the four guys that lead my team into battle night in, night out!

Gargantuan Garden
Terrible Tabouli
Cyanide Ceasar
Rasta Pasta

of the soon to be famous, Red Sands Salad Slayers

Ahh Heck, I'll post the rest as a reference to what I've done. Perhaps I'll turn this team in to a conversion article or something, depending upon response!

I would love to see a conversion article on using plastic regiment sprues in general. If you write it up let me know and I'll send it along to our editor.

I can post an article about how I converted and painted my Orc team if you'd like - it's about 11 pages of solid text, though... Prepare to drink some coffee Wink

Same here! That's a really nice team you've got there, are you going to the GT? Fancy a game against the Nurgles Rotters? Smile

Okay! It lacks pics, though, and needs to be updated a bit (last update was just before GamesDay...)

I personally don't mind your paint scheme! Although I do agree - you've nicked my idea for a "team conversion diary" Rolling Eyes

I can't say that I stole your conversion idea, just like I can't say I stole Anthony's paint scheme idea.

Unfortunately, when I played his Norse in the first round of Pandemonium 2003, all the players on the pitch looked EXACTLY the same, except for the bases, and the Chaos Warriors.

You can only claim an idea is your own until someone else does it. I started this team in August 2002, and though of it when I first saw the Marauder plastics box, didn't finish converting the team until January 2003, and never put paint to them until a couple days before Pandamonium. As for the paint scheme, it look like I blatantly copied Anthony, so I'll have to correct it somehow...

Cheers!

Erm..just grabbed it, cropped it and whacked it up on my webspace.
Is it copyright?

Actually I was originally thinking of taking a Marauder based Chaos team to the BB, got as far as starting one player..I used some Ork Gorkamorka legs..I'll get a pic up later if poss.
There were a coupla Norse teams at the Dutch open using Marauders as Norse...but I always saw them as Beastman subsistutes. Nice job BTW.

Duh - have you ever looked at the size of a standard metal Norse player? They were cool 5 years ago, but now my Snotlings tower above them and my Goblins have broader shoulders (well, almost) Wink

heh I know you didn't actually copy my idea for a team building diary, I just meant that I was planning something similar!

It/He/She could also be looking carefully at some nose-pickings (before eating them)

i love them...can you use square bases?

you can but i think round ones look better

Round bases look cooler?

You've got to be kidding!

With square bases, the larger (medium) ones, you've got little to no dispute over who has gone and who hasn't, because when they are turned, they look sharp. Also, they cover the entire square the player is positioned on, which in my opinion, looks a lot better than scattered circles everywhere!
Deathwing - Feb 14, 2003 - 09:29 AM

Square bases suck and are far too WHFB-esque.
Grumbledook - Feb 14, 2003 - 09:37 AM
Post subject:
God i've just transfered my big guys to the larger round bases, even the centaurs are on them instead of cav bases. Round is the way to go.
Squiggoth - Feb 17, 2003 - 02:21 AM
Post subject:
I've placed them on round bases because it's easier to turn them 180 degrees once they've moved (and round bases are more display-like).

Back in the elder days in which I was still a WHFB junky, I would sigh and think about how much better life would be with round bases under all my minis.
Unfortunately, there weren't any 20mm round bases and units would be too hard to move if they were on round bases.
I always thought about how lucky the 40k players were, and they didn't even know it!

Yeah, they're spoilt! We fantasy players have a lot of unfairness in our lives (why the heck aren't Nurglings Mischievous in Fantasy, like they are in 40k??? Smile)
Anyway, round rules (except for teams with "flat" models like Skinks - how do you purt a Skink face down???)

i must admit i would prefer sqaure bases as they fill the sqaures on the board better...plus more to put on base Very Happy

They finish (round off ?? Very Happy Very Happy ) your models better

Yes, Square bases are the best.

They look great when on a Bloobowl pitch, as they fit perfectly on a space!
They prevent confusion as to whether a player has gone or not, because you can only turn a player on a square base four times! (round unlimited)
They (I guess) allow you to put more detail on the base.

Even Big Guys fit on a square base! Which also fit on a space on the board!

Cheers!

I'll stick to the round ones. Round looks better on display models...
Plus, my Ogre's base has 2 skulls and a white line, and that's more than enough detail Cool

The rage in our league seems to be converting Confrontation models by Rackham to Blood Bowl.
Last year, one guy fielded a Rat Ogre Big Guy team consisting of Wolven minis from Confrontation.
I'm working on an Orc team and planning on using the cyclopean War Troll for my big guy.
