Warpstone Tokens

Before each game You roll a 3d6 if you roll a 13 then you gain a Warpstone token for whole tourney. (if rolling for a Skaven or Underword team, You can gain one on a 13 or a triples) Only 13 Warpstone Tokens will be Available, once all 13 are won , sorry
All Warpstone Tokens can be used once per game (no matter if they succeed or fail)

Last year....

1) as a RR, roll a d6 if the roll is a 5+ you may use the RR, if the roll is a 2-4 nothing happens & the warpstone token is wasted, & a 1 roll on the injury table for that player (as if he were hit by "throw a rock result") a failed RR attempt will count as Your Team RR for that turn, so only should be usesd this way if you are out of RR's.

Ok to change this, make the RR 4+ instead of a 5+ (2-3 nothing happens) & a 1 roll on injury table same as before.

Last year...

2) as a smelling salt for one player, (treat as 1 bloodweisor babe for one player only , not all players) may be combined with one bloodweiser babe, but not two.
but when making the roll if the roll is a 1 before any modifers place the player in the dead & inj. box. (no matter the result, discard after one roll)

Ok with the new idea you will be able to keep tokens from game to game, so its possible to have more than one token at any time. So you could add 2 tokens to a single KO roll (for a 2+ roll) but on a 1 the player still goes to dead & injured box.

Last Year....

3) Bribe Ref. if a secret weapon or fouling player is sent off you may use this as a bribe. roll a d6, on a 4+ the bribe is a success, 1-3 the call stands. (but if the roll was a 1 or a 6 the result stands as stated above, but the Ref is a lil preocupied to with the warpstone to call anymore fouls or secret weapons for the remainder of this drive.

No Change.

New to this Year....

4) Warpstone Roulette!

Chose a player on your team to consume a small portion of the Warpstone Token then roll 2D6 if the result is a double, Role a D16 & apply result.

1: Big Hand
2: Bone Head
3: Claw
4: Disturbing Pr.
5: Extra Arms
6: Foul App.
7: Horns
8: Hypnotic Gaze
9: Prehensile Tail
10: Really Stupid
11: Regeneration
12: Tentacles
13: CHOSE!
14: Two Heads
15: Very Long Legs
16: Wild Animal

if the result rolled is already on the player (horns on a beastman, or Bonehead on an Ogre, then reroll the D16 until a result that he/she does not already have) The player gains this result for the remainder of the game, but leaves him before next game starts.

what about tournament rules etc (team creation, ...)
Clan_Skaven - Jun 29, 2011 - 02:38 PM
Post subject:
Ok You Bring 1 team its TV will be either 100 or 110 (not anything inbetween, so no 104TV , if you plan on going above 100, use all of it cause your TV will be considered 110. Any gold not spent on creation is wasted, so use it all up) Most people will probably take the TV110 team, but should you want 100k worth of inducements, you may take the TV100 team. It does not matter if everyone takes the same TV.

It is possible to have a match up with a 100K inducement
****only Bloodwiser babes, bribes, wandering appoth's, team RR's,50k or 100k cards may be chosen*****

****Goblin teams may take bribes for 50k instead of 100k, & halflings teams may take a Halfling Master Chef for 50k****

NO STAR PLAYERS MAY BE BOUGHT IN TEAM CREATION OR INDUCEMENTS

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Skill progression..

Before 1st game right after You have Drawn Your Division , You will Draw Your Magic Item ***Refer to page 4 on rules for Magic Items***

After the 1st game , 3 random players get 3 random upgrades

After the 2nd game 3 more random players get 3 more random upgrades

so going into thier 3rd game will have 6 upgrades & one Magic Item on 1-7 players.

No more skill progression after the 3rd game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kick Off Table Changes.

As like every other year there are the same to changes to the Kick Off Table.

4: Is now "WARPSTONED" Both Coaches roll a D3 (no modifiers to the roll), the lower roll (both teams if tied) randomly selects one player. That player has become ill due to over exposure to Warpstone, for the remainder of this current Drive, that player gains the following : No Hands, Bonehead, Foul Appearance. (if he already has a Negative trait, then roll this Bonehead roll in addition to the other roll, so yes he'd have to pass both)

10: Is now "BLITZING THE SEAL" Inbetween games your team may have had too many Warpstone laced Brews & now they really need to release it. Treat just like a normal Blitz except after you call a move or blitz action roll a die, if you roll a 2+ continue with the called action, if you roll a 1, take a special move action instead where as the end of this move action the player must be on a sideline or endzone (as he pees off the field) should he not make it to the sideline or endzone for any reason place him in the reserves box. (if he was KO'd or seriously injured or killed before making it to the sideline or endzone, do not put him in reserves box, if he was stunned, then put him in the reserves box.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rounds 4-6 Overtime. (Top 8 teams only)

The top 8 teams that advance to knockout stage can not tie thier games, so if tied at end of regulation, play sudden death overtime. Only unused RR's from 2nd half may be used (in other words, RR's do not replennish at start of OT). Whoever wins the kick off choses to kick or recieve, but after scattering the ball do not roll on kick off table, instead treat the result as an automatic, "BLITZING THE SEAL" (modified Blitz Action)

all the lower teams (teams that were not in top 8, can tie in rounds 4-6 & so there is no OT )

why is this so confusing for you?

Wink

****randomly select a player , then roll 2d6 for him (3+5=8 thats a normal roll).... (1+1=2 thats a double or a normal roll).... (4+6=10 thats a +1 MA/AV or a normal roll).... (5+5=10 thats a +1 MA/AV or a doubles, or a normal roll) ....( 5+6=11 thats a +1 AG or a normal roll).... a (6+6=12 thats a +1 STR, or a double or a normal roll)

clear enough? Wink

Hey, guys. Not to hijack Rod's tourney thread but I'm doing another group order from Impact Miniatures. We'll get 10% off the entire order and 20% of the pre-discount price goes towards prize support for my tourney in November. If you're interested, send me an e-mail to blingtoof@engler.ca and I'll order your stuff for you and we can work out paying me back. For those in the Toronto area I can meet up with you at some point and anyone else can pay me back at The Warpstone Cup.

I am putting in this order on 1-AUG-2011 so you need to get me your order by THIS SUNDAY!!!

The 10% off is for anything on Impact's website except the Fantasy Fields gaming mats and Monny's Mortuary dugouts and scoreboards (you can still order those, just at full price).

Ok, there will be some format changes to the tourney this year. I have had some folks tell me that the time factor & the 2 team method was a concern. Yes there are those that love the 2 team system, but more have had the feeling a 1 team system would be preferable.

So that being the case I can speed up the format by making it one team.

Also Eric who has been my stats God with the computer may not be able to attend this year & I'm basically useless with a computer if its not a video game.

Plus theres a tournament system I have been working on over the last year or so & got all the kinks out, & its more the way I had orriginally planned for the Warpstone Cup.

The tourney will still have the Warpstone Tokens in use, & the modified Kick Off table will still be used. Skill progression will be exactly the same....
1 random player gets 1 randome roll before game 1
3 random players get 3 random upgrades before game 2
3 random players get 3 random upgrades before round 3
from rounds 4 through 6 your team does not improve anymore.

If People still want the chance of getting inducements, they can register a 1,000 TV or 1,100 TV team. if everyone registers the 1,100 team thats cool, but the option not to is there.

There will be 4 pools & the 1st 3 games will be played vs your own pool. games 4 through 6 will be play off games (top two teams in each pool go through to playoff, bottom teams play off vs other bottom teams of other pools)

With this system, although rare, there is a chance you may play another team twice, but if the rematch is for the Cup it could be a revenge match!

I have play tested this system it is very easy to put together, I have myself & 2 others as the 3 odd men out (system like the Death Bowl, needs 3 oddmen out)

It will work with any number divided by 4, (4,8,12,16,20,24 ect)

Theres no need for using computer to work out matchups as it is based on a world cup soccer/rugby format.

Trust me this is a great system & it will be a great time, seeing who will be this Years Warpstone Cup Champion!

I like the one-team playoff format so far. How will you be making the pools for the round robin? Will you have a draw, or will you organize them by region, or will you split up players so that no two people from the same region will be in the same initial pool?

If you divide the pools by region, there could be a city/East vs. West rivalry that begins as the top coach from each region plays each other. It would be similar to the old NHL playoff format. This could prove interesting in a couple of years similar to the Lakeside Cup.

I'll miss the two-team format as this was a great way to try out a new team without having to slog through six games. That being said, I'm sure the new format will be fun.

For the 1st Year it will be random draws for pools, but I'm looking for next year, the top 4 places from the year before being the top 4 seeds (each in one division & the rest randomised.

I do understand this, but I had many requests to do tourney with one team format, plus one team with 7 upgrades means only 7 choices, 2 teams with 7 upgrades means 14 choices, so as far as time managment one team format makes sense .

There are those like You that like the 2 team format, but I have heard from a great deal more that would prefer the single team system.

This tourney has evolved a bit over the years each change so far for the best, I do belive this next change will be for the best too.

extra time is only an issue in games 4, 5, 6 (& only with the top 8 teams) & in overtime only unused RR's from 2nd half are available.

I second that, I thought the 2 team format made this tourney stand out from the rest. I also ended up playing two teams that I had never before used in a tourney. I'll be there either way, but I really liked the two team idea.

Well I'd like to start 1st game no later than 9:30 am , but would prefer 9 am start , what time are you looking to arrive?
Clan_Skaven - Jul 28, 2011 - 10:19 PM
Post subject:
The main reason for switching from 2 team to 1 team format, is to speed up delay between games. (packing up one team unpacking another, picking 14 skills opposed to 7, keeping track of 2 different roster sheets opposed to one, all little things but when put together can eat up more time).

But if after this year the time does not speed up a great deal, or there is a much bigger request to bring it back the 2 team format i will. but again i'm just acting on the voices of many who expressed to me the time issues with the 2 team format.

Hey Rod - thanks for moving the Warpstone Cup to the weekend of September the 24-25th. Very Happy When we adjusted the Spike! Magazine dates from the B.C. long weekend (first weekend of August) to the second week of September we did it for 3 reasons:

1) we needed to get it off of a long weekend as it was hurting our local numbers for that tournament.
2) we needed to get it out of the summer. same reason as #1
3) we deliberately moved it closer to the Chaos Cup and they moved their Major closer to ours.

When I did this and chose the second weekend of September I had no idea that the Warpstone Cup had the same dates (believe me I thought I looked Rolling Eyes), so again kudos to yourself for choosing a weekend that doesn't fall on the Spike! or the Chaos Cup weekend. My apologies for inadvertently choosing the same weekend starting in 2010.

Cheers,
Craig.

i moved it because that weekend could not work this year, but it will be the 2nd weekend probably from now on (has been for the 1st 4 years as the Warpstone Cup used to be called the N.B.B.O "Niagaroth BloodBowl Open)

Schedule is:

4 games on the saturday, 2 on the sunday (cf more info on the first page, second and 4th message in this thread)

Generally, after the tourney (saturday night) we hang out at the campground, around a fire (a bunch of us are staying in cabins close to the tournament place)

Races allowed: all officials, plus underworld, chaos pact and Slanns.

What to know as a first timer: douche bags are not welcome (other than me Wink ). If you come to have a nice time, you'll go back home with great souvenirs. the ambiance is generally really good, even though people are fouling each other Very Happy

After You Draw what Division Your in You will draw 2 of 5 numbered tokens (1-5) & depending on the Division You are in, You then will pick & keep 1 of the 2 Magic Items drawn, then place both numbers back in bag for next person. (For example lets say Your Wood Elf team is in Clan Pestilens Division & You draw 1 & 4 You will have the choice of the Harness of Nurglitch & the Collar of Aggression, you will keep one of those 2)

Since these are Magic Items they can be used by any player on any team (even the ones that are Mutations)

You decide what player will use it the start of each game. Should that player get Serious Injured , KO'd or Dead, after K'O rolls but before the next Drive starts You may give this Magic Item to another player on your team.

This Magic Item will replace Your 1st Skill roll before 1st game. So You will have 1 Magic Item & 6 Skills.

The Hallowe'en-themed Underworld team I'm taking to Warpstone next weekend and will probably go 0-6 (they're an Underworld team, after all) but I at least hope to look good doing it! Here's some pics of the players, counters, and sideline/display figures:

This one was a little interesting. It's one of Gaspez Arts' Skaven-inspired figures. I really liked the look of it but that tail was worrying me. Even pinned, I could see it being easily bent or broken off. Fortunately, I had some magnets that were the precise circumference of the tail so I drilled into his rear end (goodnight, everybody), glued in a magnet, and glued another magnet to the bottom of the tail so now it just comes off for easy transporting.

Here's the rest of the Skaven which are from the usual GW Skavenblight Scramblers box set:

The Underworld Goblins are some figures by Reaper called "Pumpkin Horrors:"

The Warpstone TRoll is also by Reaper and is a solo model called "Rotpatch, Pumpkin Golem." It came holding a big scythe in its right arm. I cut it off and made some tendrils out of green stuff and wrapped them around a football. That's right... he's a ball carrier!

I made some custom re-roll, turn, and score counters out of the pumpkin sideline figures that Impact makes:

I inked up a small Zuzzy mat and a few display figures, as well. Also, These walls are from the GW boxed set and the sign is a Hallowe'en ornament that I bought from a Michael's craft store, re-painted, and glued on some model railroad letters:

Hey there kids. Looks like I may be the only one from Ottawa making the trek this time around. I'll be going through Coburg to meet up with Mr. Meers and we will be making our way down on the Friday night.

I was just hoping that someone might have space in their cabin for me to crash in. I will be more than happy to contribute to the pot for the rental, it is just that I do not currently have internet access to make arrangements (I'm currently on a friend's compy). So if anyone can spare some space, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers all, and I look forward to seeing everyone next weekend.

Any help is great, but the system I created, your 1st 3 games will be predetermined by divisional play, & your last 3 games are either vs the same tier as You (bottom players) or in the championship round (top 8 teams) your matches 4-5-6 are elimination brackets, so only thing i need calculations for is tie breakers for after round 3 for tied games to determine divisional placing.

Two questions concerning the rule set:

1) Are we modifying team value after gaining skills a/o stat increases? Are we then calculating inducement amounts before every match?

2) Is it possible to lose a Warpstone Token after receiving it? Or do you have the token and can it be used once for each match after receiving it?

Thanks!

Your TV stays same all tourney no matter what upgrades you get. & the warpstone token is yours to keep. You can use it all tourney once per game. & its yours to keep after the tourney to use as a RR, or turn marker or whatever.

Thanks, Rod, for putting on the tourney. Even though I finished last, I had a great time, even with the militaristic stylings of the KOA. All of my games were fun and thanks to my opponents for helping make my decision easy for my World Cup team selection... NOT CHAOS DWARFS!!!

I was also happy to hear that my team earned a 2nd place nod for best team. There is something mystical about the giant hats, I do admit.

Also, a special thanks to all of my cabin mates for pitching in to make staying at the KOA bearable, and for putting up with my bad habits!

Looking forward to improving upon my results next year. Nowhere to go but up! Hope to see a bunch of you again at the Death Bowl.

Thanks all for a great week-end, which allowed me to evacuate a lot of pressure. Sorry for the french ranting, but at least you might have enriched your french vocabulary Very Happy.

Ok, a little feedback.

As far as i know people liked the format (overall, we didnt had to wait that long for the over times). Still, it might be good to have timers for the tables that are going into overtime.

Personally, I liked the magic item, and the fact that you could transfer them from a player to another.

For the skills, I think you should offer an alternative: the possibility, once, that two randomly selected players (D16 roll) are traded against one designated player. The skill roll remains random. Like this, you ensure that the player going for random skills still have an advantage, but you also allow he luckless coaches to have a playable roster.

Alternatively, you can implement the inducements (so everybody calculates his TV after getting the skills, and in some rare case (like Pete TV=1290, while others were at TV=1220) opponents will get a card or Blooddweiser babes).

Finally, for the warpstone token, I think that if you beef them they are going to be useless, except the fact that they look really cool Smile. What you can do is to cap the maximal amount at 2 warpstones per tournament, and their use at 1 per half.

I still really like the modified kick-off table event, the modified extra-time, the location, and rod, greg and joe.

The only thing i didnt like was pete Smile

Nice blog. I didn't read every game though, just mine.

I'm not a fan of the warpstone tokens. I never got one, and I played against two people that had them and they were successfully used as rerolls. Which really worked against me. One of the players, had 2 of them and I think it made the difference between winning and losing. They did have counters to not work or have bad effects and even as rerolls required a "pro" roll. As my luck would have it they always worked and I got it in the end. For Rod, I guess I would base my decision on making changes on how the other teams faired against those tokens.

The team value difference was great. I was able to field a good orc team at 100TV. I used the dirty trick cards that Wapcaplets brought. They were great (for me). I think this format is good. I do kind of agree with Lizardcore on the running TV but I understand that it was for simplicity. This is a keeper in my opinion.

The 6 game format where the first few rounds is for positioning within your clan is different. Then the pressure afterwards is continuously winning. Going into OT on two games was nice to be able to do for a tournament. However, I got out of there on Saturday after 9:30pm and we didn't finish up until after 4pm on Sunday with only 2 games. While I enjoyed this I would make sure that everyone attending knows this in advance. A bonus to this is that you don't have to wait for all the games to finish to know who you are playing next. So you could start your next game as soon as your opponent was available. Keep this. I really liked it and didn't want to hang out with any of you guys afterwards anyway. (j/k) I was tired.

Overall, it was a fun tourney and I'm glad I went. Sorry your odd men out didn't get to play in the tourney. Maybe you could work it out where there doesn't have to be an even number of players in each clan. Its something to think about.

Game 5 was one of the most intensive games I have played in a while. Not getting any casualties (one near the end) really hurt and I think it could have been different if I had just a little more success. WOW.
