North America - GenCon Bowl 2007

I know this is probably early, but I was wondering (since I just registered for GenCon) what the tentative plans were for GenCon Bowl 2007.....

Tournament is usually Friday and Saturday. Streetparty 'The Deuce' will be on thrusday.

Is that something you have to sign up for (the streetbowl)?

It will be another event at GenCon to register for.

I'm considering the trip to GenCon this year, but haven't wrestled through the full budget yet. What are the housing option costs like in Indy? When I used to go back in Milwaukee, the university dormitories worked out great and cheap.

Cheers,
Mo

I might try camping. I hear there's a campground not too far out of Indy - and considerably cheaper than hotels...
Xtreme - Feb 16, 2007 - 02:35 AM
Post subject: RE: GenCon Bowl 2007
Hotels downtown are filling up fast or have already filled up. If you are bringing a car you can probably find rooms 20mins away or so for a fair price. The campgrounds are another option though I don't know anything about them.
Opus - Feb 16, 2007 - 11:59 AM
Post subject: RE: GenCon Bowl 2007
I booked my hotel room (double occupancy) for around $210 / night. That's 1/4 mile from the Con Center. A few years ago, we were able to get rooms 15 minutes away for roughly $140 / night.
GalakStarscraper - Feb 19, 2007 - 06:09 AM
Post subject: RE: GenCon Bowl 2007
Impact! will be hosting the GenCon Bowl this year ... and yes it will be Friday and Saturday (need to get my event sheet in). And Bryan/Xtreme has run the Street Bowl tournament. My understanding is that one of the fathers of Street Bowl is planning on playing this year (Norse).

As for lodging ... if you don't mind a 20 minute drive. There are Red Roof Inns right next to where I live for $60 a night. I drive in to GenCon every day and its no sweat. Parking will run you ... I think its $18 a day??? But honestly ... if you are able to drive in ... you can get some decent priced hotels in Fishers or Greenwood.

1) LRB 5.0
2) You may purchase any inducements as a permanent part of your team (except for Special Play Cards or Mercenaries).
3) Halfling Chef is 50k for Halflings
4) Bribes are 50k for Goblins
5) Titchy adds +1 to Landing
6) We will be allowing the Slann team to play as the 22nd team. (However anyone playing the team won't be able to get NAF points)

Otherwise ... same rules as last year.

Just a heads up to those of you who'll be at Gen Con. I'm bringing along just about all of my remaining BB gear to sell to you fine people. I'm not looking to make a mint from it, otherwise I'd Ebay the stuff. Just looking to find a good home for some rare and not so rare BB gear. Heck knowing me I'll probably give some of it away. There's a Spike 2004 field, A Canadian Open field, gutter runners, liz cheerleaders, a one of a kind resin pre cast of the newer Mino I got from Andy Hall a few years back, a whole bunch of assorted teams and figs, Shadowforge stuff, and some other rare stuff I can't think of at the moment. So if you're interested bring along your wallets Friday morning. If there's something specific someone is looking for ahead of time feel free to contact me and I'll see if I have it.

Also we've got a little more space in the Van for the trip to GC this year. If someone from Toronto want to catch a ride let me know. We're picking Ben up as is so we're already making a stop.

He's only defending champ cause I declined to play last year Wink

Yeah, I took the dwarf class last year, but it was too short and didn't learn enough - so, taking that agian this year. Along with the sculpting cloth, basics, 2 classes on faces (by different teachers), weapons, and some other stuff - so I expect my arms to be tired.

Been working on an undead treeman for the Deadlings team for fun too, so hope to pick up tips on that Smile Have been toying with the idea of having him break apart at the middle with a notch and recessed magnets to allow the bottom half to be swapped out when it takes root.

So i wish you all good luck and a lot of fun. I can´t wait to see who will be the next coach on the Trophy! And it would be interestig who will be the most travelld coach this year?

"2) Tournament Rounds, Team Set-up, and Skills. The tournament will be 5 rounds of Swiss. Starting team will be 1,000,000. You will allowed your choice of giving 2 players each a normal skill or one player a doubles roll skill or mutation after rounds 1, 3, and 5. After round 2 and 4, you will be allowed to give one player a normal skill."

Umm, I presume this should read "before round 1, 3, and 5" and "before round 2 and 4". This being a 5 round tourney and all Wink

Poking at the GenCon website, online registration and ticket sales are now closed. No more signups until the event.

The Friday half of the Blood Bowl tournament has sold 31 of 80 tickets.
The Saturday half has sold 23 of 80. Very strange. 8 people are not planning on completing the tournament or were unable to follow the event description instructions.

For Street Bowl on Thursday, 9 out of 24 have sold.

(And I have the knee injuries to prove it, proving once again that credo that even a goblin coach eats that accursed +1 to injury roll.)

After a stunning return in the West and remember all the fun this game has to offer, well it's simply time to come back to Gencon and prove that Bloodbowl is once again a game that must be player as loud and boistrous as at all possible! Twisted Evil

...besides, I was told they'd be serving squigs this year.... Shocked

Bobby ... I didn't get to see your roster ... did you have any Runners or Assassins? If so ... how many of each?

Bobby had a great tournament and could very arguably be said to have won the darn thing if we were just using the most simplist scoring system. Every year I learn more as a tournament organizer and try to tweak the system to make it better.

My roster was 1 runner (80k), 4 blitzers (400k), 6 line elves (420k), 2 rr's (100k) , 0 ff. I actually picked up 3 dodges, 1 stip ball for blitzers, 1 leadership for runner, and 1 block for line elf. I actually think leap with a blitzer will be one of my changes next time out. This was my first time with Dark Elves, I did have a lot of experience with High Elves, so the tactics were kind of similiar.
Congrats to Frank, I really liked the fig with blitz, really did well with that one, as I fell into it's perfect path twice. I played four very good players, and one rookie who could become good with some practice. I believe my games were with Frank, Galvin, Colvin, Mathew and Sean. I am not good with names, I should write down more.
Also congrats to Tom's brother, he was under the radar, but continued his streak. I was part of that streak, but I do want to say it for all to hear, he has played in each Gen Con, as I have, and he is undefeated, a few ties, but no losses, and we know how tough the competition is with guys like Frank, Brian, Galvin, Wolfgang, and many many more.

For those who enjoy having their flights canceled, reopened, delayed, connections missed, connections rescheduled, and enjoy hanging around people more or less having emotional meltdown at severely underpaid United Airlines check in employees...may I recommend having a connecting flight from Chicago during a Storm?

Good grief that was a seriously stressful adventure getting home. The amusing part was the fact that I was not the one having the biggest meltdown. In fact, I pretty much was able to laugh at the absurdity of human kind trying to work around mother nature's tantrums.

The happy ending to all if this is that AJ and I got home safely...sick as dogs...late as all get out...but safely.

I still had a absolutely fantastic time at GenCon this year. My wallet is still not speaking to me, but what can you do?

I'll get the pictures up that approriate for public consumption in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

There were people wandering by the tourney who were quite surprised to find out the Blood Bowl was alive & well.

NAF should print up flyers to drop on the tables around the hallways at the con gving the links to NAF and the free game rules. And perhaps mentioning dealers at the con who might have suitable miniatures to use

Well the Edmonton crew just safely got back, and all four of us had a blast this year at the Gencon bowl! For some it was a great reunion with a lot of faces we've missed the last few years, and for some it was a rude welcome to the fold! Laughing Rolling Eyes (As the Apprentice Goblin coach ended up winless in all five games...just goes to show there's only one goblin coach to fear in North America. Shocked Very Happy )

It was fun to once again give the Human "Rebooters" a try and see how they'd do, and all my games were notorious for luck going all one way or the other. (Playing the inevitable Khemri winner, he had 16 perfect turns of Bloodbowl, not using a single reroll, rather hard to win when your opponent is having such a hot streak of dice...still a gentleman to play against.)

Less then two months until the big "gig", and plenty of messages to sift through...thank you all for making us old and new players welcome once more into the NAF/Bloodbowl fold...

...meanwhile I have much phonging to do to the apprentice goblin coach.... Embarassed Rolling Eyes Laughing

I'll say thanks on his behalf as he doesn't often visit the forums.

His 5 year GenCon record is now 17 wins - 6 ties - 0 losses. He's always been a really good player but GenCon and him just seem to really work well together. With 4 more wins and 1 tie this year ... he may actually break the upper eschleon of the World rankings.

It was a totally excellent tournament guys. I had great fun, played 5 very cool players, and was lucky to win the 1st place trophy. Thanks to each of my opponents for making each game a fun one.

During the tournament, I played against 3 human teams and 2 dark elf teams! It definitely seemed an odd mix of teams.

I have to say I am amazed at Dennis' record. 17 wins, 6 ties, and 0 losses is just amazing!
