Accurate pass not caught scatters to team mate and caught,is it a completion for the thrower. I think yes but just checking, thanks in advance for help.

no. an accurate pass must be successfully caught by the intended receiver to get SPPs. your situation, while not a turnover, is a case of picking up a bouncing ball, not catching an accurate pass...more or less.

It never says it has to be the player the ball was thrown too. So technically the answer is yes it is a completion.

There are lots of possible outcomes from a pass

1) Fumble - turnover
2) not caught - turnover, no spp.
3) Inaccurate & caught - no turnover, no spp
4) Accurate & caught - SPP & no turnover

I think that covers them all.

I take it you did mean no SPP, because I'm pretty sure you don't get a completion when your pass is intercepted. Wink

Just for the sake of nitpicking: point 5-7 can't happen as you have to roll for interception before the thrower rolls his pass roll...

Well it was a bit off topic given that this is a thread on whether you get a completion SPP for a pass that is not caught by the intended receiver.

What if the ball scatters in this instance back to the thrower or the player handing the ball off?

If the ball is caught by a player on the moving team then there is no turnover. It does not matter who catches the ball: catcher, thrower or random other player there is still no turnover.
If the pass is accurate and caught then the thrower gets the completion SPP's. (Yes the thrower could end up with both the ball and the SPP's for the completion theoretically.)

The ball must be caught by another player so you can't get a completion by having the passer catching their own pass. Rolling Eyes

That's what I thought.

Just getting a bit confused. The Living rulebook says that a hand off is a type of very short pass and then with people going on about getting a SPP where the person throwing the ball also catches it. Unless you were trying somekind of dolly over the head of another player you would have to be standing next to the catcher to be able to catch your own accurate pass and in that case why would you risk an extra dice roll when you can automatically make it accurate by handing it off?

Believe me Hand offs are not passes. That section of the rules are notoriously badly written. You don't get SPPs for hand-offs. So sometimes its worth passing even if you are adjacent to the intended receiver.

I'm sure someone else can quote the chapter and verse.

Trust me when I see the draft of the LRB 3.0 ... making sure the wording of the Hand-off section to not reference the word PASS anywhere in the text. Its already got buy-off so it should happen.

I believe you about not getting SPP's. That's the way we have always played it. I was just making sure before i weighed in with an opinion and made myself look like a numpty by getting it wrong.
