Rules Questions - Appropriate penalty?

Post subject: Appropriate penalty?
I played a league game using a dwarf team against another dwarf team over the weekend. Without realizing, until last turn of second half, I played using 12 men, and was leading 1-0. I offered to remove the td, forfeit the game, etc... None were expected, he just stated that it was his bad for not catching it. Be that as it may, I still felt bad. With no official "house rule" in place for something like this, what would be an appropriate penalty?

That late in the game, I'd just say forget about the game, erase all the SPPs gained and replay the game.

Your opponent seemes like he was ok with it, and he should have caught it too, so I'd just say sorry about that and offer him a rematch.

Your commish should come up with a penalty.

I'm sorry to tell you, but as a NAF member you have agreed to castration if you ever did such a thing...what do you mean you didnt read the fine print? Wink

Castration seems pretty rough...how about surrendering your winnings for the game? This way I can replace my dead Longbeard...no...I meant..er..um...so that your league-mate might not feel so badly about his/her loss. Sad

Smile

EDIT: Actually this is just a joke, that would set a bad precedent for those who might do it intentionally and think that lost winnings might not be a bad price to pay.

I missed it...what can you do. Next time I count your players...honor system, out the window. Wink

P.S. We actually saw it on the kick-off starting the second half...that's when we saw that your Badly Hurt Longbeard still didn't take you under full strength.

Actually castration is only a deterent once....

BTW - What if your league does not have a commissioner and does everything by league votes?

Honestly, from what it sounds like, the two players came to an agreement that yes, it was a mistake, but they don't think that anything should be done about it.

If you don't have a commish, let the two players work it out as best they can. Assumeing they can be cival about it, they can solve the probelm be it, let it stand as is, or just whipe the slate clean and replay the game.

If they can't work it out, or it became clear that the guilty player clearly knew that he had too many players, then I would suggest that the rest of your league gets together and determines an appropreate solution to the problem, without eithe rof hte two players involved getting a vote.

See, lol, in my mind that's totally within the fluff of the game. If the other coach doesn't notice 12 guys beating on him, it's equivalent to a reff bribe or something.

I guess if I noticed at that point, I'd suggest a random player from the squad getting sent off for the remainder of the game by the ref, and a possible monetary penalty; maybe d6 x10 crowns leveled by the NAF or something?

Here's our House Rule for it:

TOO MANY MEN ON THE PITCH:
After an outbreak of five offenses in the first five months of Season III, the Commissioner has made the first ever mid-season HBBL rule change (effective for Month 6). The onus is on each headcoach to count to 11 when setting up for a kickoff (how hard is it really?). For every player over 11 on the pitch a random player is ejected from the game (use a d12, d20, or d30). In addition, the referee is now watching the offending team (this can negate Get the Ref) and a handicap roll is awarded to the non-offending team. If the random player(s) had the ball it gets thrown back in by the fans near the dugout's center sqaure (use standard rules). If the infraction is caught after the play has ended, only a handicap roll is awarded.

We let the opposing coach choose which player to remove (rather than it being random).

I'm disapointed Mel, there is no mention of castration in that rule.

Nice rule Mel. But yeah, castration would have really sent the message.

We do the same. We ask that players do it as soon as they notice, and that all players count (all the way to eleven!) their players before kick off to try to avoid the situation.

Certain unscrupulous individuals (ahem!) have been known to wait for someones gutter runner to charge down the pitch in to their half and then say "oh, 12 players, I'll have that gutter runner off, thanks for the ball" Twisted Evil , so its better to check your team really.

We dont want to scare off prospective HBBL members. That's the unwritten part of the penalty Wink
