Strategy and Tactics - Goof off team

I was wondering as there is a tourney coming up and I usually play Norse and will soon unleash my Orc squad on the world, are Goblins a viable alternative team? Can you have fun AND win with them?

I was thinking:
8 Goblins
4 Trolls
1 Apotho
5 FF
3 Rerolls

Thoughts?

How would you be allowed 4 trolls?

With gobbos, you can have fun - but don't count on winning (unless you play with dino-dice! Wink)

Where do I get them? Wink on a spreadsheet I downloaded from here (I think) you put in the race and it allows you to grab whatever is eligible on a team , then I looked in the LRB and only Goblins are listed. I guess I should load up on the star players then huh?

What about an Ogre team with this:
4 Ogres
8 Gobbos
2 RR
1 FF
1 Appotho

Sound like Mayhem?

Goblins and halflings are allowed two big guys, as oppose to the usual one. I suppose you could get the third if you got Ripper Bolgrot.

Spazz,

What about the Ogre team?

The current Ogre team is limited to 6 Goblins...thus is technically not really a stunty team.

Once they break...err...I mean update the rules...the Ogres will be limited to 6 and the goblins will be replaced by Snotlings.

This team will have trouble even with Dino dice. Smile

Just so you know, I have won and had fun with a gobbo team. Just don't get mad if your brilliant play gets ruined cuz your troll decided to eat the gobbo you wanted him to throw.

Karl,

Wouldn't the Ogre's being so strong and tough to bring down against say anything with a 3 ST plus the fact that they have 9 AV balance out the Snotlings and their shortcomings?

The big problem is that you cannot rely on the ogres. They go bonehead at the worst possible moments (not that there is ever a good time to go bonehead I suppose....)

Also you have to consider that gobbos do most of the scoring, so having a ball carrier that gets a 3 dice block against them from your average player (rather than 2 dice against the gobbos) can also make a huge difference.

Spazz,

If you ran a cage with a Snot in it wouldn't you level anything it it's path? Plus wouldn't you get high casualties with say 6 Ogres and 5 Snots? Just keep the Snots away from everyone as much as possible and lay waste to whatever is on the other side of the pitch. Besides if I can find these Dino Dice you keep talking about I should be ok. cages are great till parsts of it go bonehead, then the cage is nothing more than tissue paper!

Yeah but the problem is that your cage is highly unreliable! One ogre goes bonehead and then your cage is scuppered!

Also keep in mind that a wise opponent will not leave his defense in the TZs of the ogres, and so you will only be able to blitz one ogre per turn (provided that he does not go bonehead!) Which means that your cage will move slowly, and unreliably, forward.

So basically to sum up this idea- Ogres will either be unstoppable OR fall flat on their faces while all my little Snotling Hooligans get crushed? Still sounds like fun to me!!!! You have an 86% of your Ogre not going Bonehead. First thing I would do is lay waste to anything on the LOS. Now hopefully he is less three players. Slow grinding ball control type of game. Only one way to find out and I'll let you know once I've assembled them. As far as the Snotlings go where could I get BB Snotlings? Just on the GW Website? Then I have to clip a few weapns as well and get some stands as well. Anyone else have any ideas?

A more practicfal way of looking at it is that with 6 ogres on the field, probability states that one of them is going to screw up your plans!

Fun yes! But can also be frustrating as hell! Evil or Very Mad

Let's also not forget that the whole team is without general skill access...and will be limited on rerolls. So even "laying waste to the LOS" is by no means a certainty.

Let's also keep in mind that the future of this team will have a reroll that only has a 50/50 chance of allowing you to re-roll the failure.

Super Nerfed...but can still be fun if you have the right mindset.

Are they changing the ogres in LRB 5 to loners? My league has been playing the experimental rules for a while, and the Ogre team has actually done reasonably well, so if they get the loner trait I won't cry one bit. As of 1.12, the weren't loners, except on the human team.

Killing snotlings makes me giggle.

Meh, Trolls are even worse than Ogres. I've had mine pick his nose for about 4 turns a half some days. Other days he either fumbles or tries to eat my gobbos when I need a one turn score to draw or win!!!

I know a couple of Troll Slayers that would love to meet your Ogres.
