Strategy and Tactics - Doubles on a developing ogre?

Post subject: Doubles on a developing ogre?
I have an ogre with one ability via SPPs so far: Piling On.

Last night, he got to his second ability via 3 casualties (PO rocks!). I rolled doubles. My dilemma is that there really isn't anything I'd love to get him for doubles more than the normal skills (Block, Tackle, Guard, etc.). Especially since he's the bruiser of the team (Orcs), I'm strongly tempted to go Block. On top of that, our Chaos Cup is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I doubt I'll be able to get him another skill in the meantime.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I should do?

If you don't have a Leader on your team, that would be a strong consideration. Getting your Big Guy a reroll is a very big deal. Looked at from a long term perspective, Dodge is actually the most tempting skill for you if you're in a very bashy league. If you're about to go into the playoffs of a tournament, Block becomes very difficult to pass up.

I gave my Ogre Block and Dodge for his first two skills...and the look on the opponent's face when you say that the Ogre stays up due to having Dodge is priceless (it's come into effect at least 3 times in the last 2 games).

Go for dodge, its really silly but as you have rolled the double you should not pass up the opertunity. It should increase your chances of causing mayhem as the emeny coachs will have an even harder time to knock him down...

Stand Firm is not a bad idea either...allowing him to attempt dodges without suffering anything on a failure.

FRENZY

nice combo with PO and MB!! ensures even more cas (potentially double amount of blocks)

True...that'd work too...just make sure to get a "handler" with Leader at some point for that monstrosity's multiple dice rolls.

Give him Leader. Then you don't have to worry about rolling double skulls.

Getting Leader on a team just for the Big Guy is the single biggest waste of a doubles roll, ever. You will get ONE reroll per half with the Big Guy. If you are so paranoid, take Pro.

Frenzy, Stand Firm, and Dodge are all valid skills. It depends on what you want to do with him. If you want to continue with the gob of casualties, Frenzy is definitely your best bet.

I tend to agree with Cervidal, especially since you can have another player take Leader on doubles and get the same benefit.

Frenzy or dodge.

Or if you've got any goblins on your team, Pass.

I would vote against Leader (because you can give it to another player on your team instead).

Dodge is nice, because it combines neatly with Break Tackle (your next skill of course) to make a moderately useful Blitzer... Shocked

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I decided on Dodge. Leader is being reserved for a lineman's doubles. Stand Firm is nice, but hardly a game-breaker. Frenzy would be wonderful if I already had block, but all I need is to get my big guy to roll skull/double skulls behind enemy lines, surrounded, and fouled out of existence. Until I could get block, it would be very dangerous to start him on the front line -- and what's the point of having a wrecking ball that will waste my blitz?

Thanks for the recommendations.

Do you find that you use Multiple Block much? I'm tempted to give it to my Ogre, but I'm not sure whether I'd use it frequently enough.

MB wouldn't be a bad idea actually...the players I put around the Ogre to assist him in blocks all have Guard...hmmmm.

One guy in our league has a MB ogre (with Piling On and MB, of course). That thing is a wrecking ball.

Of course, I'm killing it Thursday. Smile

I use it quite often. I'll set up for 'line breaker' or 'the cage' and use the Ogre to open holes.

On Sunday he sent a dwarf runner (w/the ball) and his Troll slayer gaurd off and into the crowd.
