Rules Questions - a couple of quick questions

Post subject: a couple of quick questions
just played my first game for about 4 years last night and a couple of rules questions came up. my laptop died just before the game so didnt have living rulebook, just our old 3rd ed printing, but thats what that said.

1) in a throw in does the ball only go 1 square? my laptop died just before the game so didnt have living rulebook, just our old 3rd ed printing, but thats what that said.

2) can you hand off and pass in the same turn? obviously with different players, but i wasnt sure if it counted as a pass.

3) when blocking at the edge of the pitch, your opponent on the sideline and you coming from the diagonal, if you get push-back can you choose to push him out even if there is a square free to which he could go.

4) can you pass over the length of the range ruler? im guessing no because then that would be a hail mary, but its always best to check.

5) can players assist in a foul even in other players tackle zones?

many thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick reply, everything is as i was expecting apart from the throw in, as in my copy of the rulebook it just says use the throw in template, and caused a lot of confusion. I remember it being just 1d6, but i suppose i wasnt far off.

2D6 Squares for a throw-in???

1. In a throw in it comes into the field the second square from the sideline (using the throwin plate oc) and a one square bounce from there right?

Or do I have a missunderstanding?

I suggest you have a misunderstanding. My understanding is as follows: It comes into play from the square it went out from. It scatters in a randomised direction away from the sideline (1-2 = left diagonal, 3-4 = straight ahead, 5-6 = right diagonal). It travels 2D6 squares. If not caught, it then bounces one square (DCool.

Hope this helps.

This is the correct full method for the crowd throw-in (which matches my short answer above).

With a throw in its worth remembering that the last square the ball was in on the pitch is the source of the throw in AND the first square to count

e.g.
      Code:

|_A
|XB
|_C

The ball goes out of bounds from X - it doesn't matter which direction scattered out towards. 1/2 = A, 3/4=B 5/6 = C, X is square 1 for the counting of the distance.

Opening of a pandora's box . . .

Ok so now we know how far the throw in goes, can it be intercepted? I.e. if it travels over the heads of players to land on a square which they are not in (or adjacent to using diving catch) can they make an attempt. if so do both teams get to try?

Nope, you can only intercept a pass.

Ok heres another one that came up which was a bit suspect, can a player go for it to make a blitz, e.g. an orc blitzer declares a litz on an opponent 7 squares away, needing 8 to make the blitz. Can he then go for it those 2 extra squares to make that blitz?
GalakStarscraper - Feb 06, 2009 - 07:38 AM

Yes you can GFI on a blitz up to two times. You can use one for extra movement and one for the actual block.

It should also be noted that a player with Frenzy must make any necessary GFIs to hit the second time if they only push back the first time.

Really? I thought that was optional and you could forfeit your second block.

Frenzy
A player with this skill is a slavering psychopath who attacks his
opponents in an uncontrollable rage. Unless otherwise overridden, this
skill must always be used.
When making a block, a player with this skill
must always follow up if they can. If a 'Pushed' or 'Defender Stumbles'
result was chosen, the player must immediately throw a second block
against the same opponent so long as they are both still standing and
adjacent. If possible the player must also follow up this second block. If
the frenzied player is performing a Blitz Action
then he must pay a
square of Movement and must make the second block unless he has no
further normal movement and cannot go for it again.

Fred
We got tired of Frenzy players doing a both and forth dance before blitzing so they could not make the 2nd block ... so we changed the rules in 5.0. Now a player either HAS to take the 2nd block (and GFI if needed) or the player can make sure he is using his 2nd GFI on the 1st block so he doesn't have to make the 2nd block. Either way we made the Frenzy dance cost the player a lot more risk (or be completely ineffective).
