Europe - NAF Championship 2012 rules pack. Gw minis only

This year, after last years rules I was expecting that we would once again be able to use any minis for our teams...

Now before you read any further this isn't a dig at NAF but will be a rant.

I have no idea about anyone else but i have just spent the better part of a year since the last tournament converting a team from the AoW berserkers and to hear that i now cant use it in this tournament is to say the least somewhat frustrating.

"Your team must consist of Games Workshop manufactured miniatures, by request of Warhammer World."

Why? Because we are using your premises or because other companies are producing far superior fantasy football minis?

I'm dissapointed with the rules change as the diversity of teams last year was amazing. I have no idea what GW expect from this as they havent released any descent teams for a few years and i begrudge using the overly priced static models they still stock as they refuse to do new team sculpts.

Any and all opinions are welcomed even if its just to tell me to shut up, any one else in a similar position?

I agree with you, hence I'm not going now.
But expect to be in the minority. For some reason a lot of people think it's fine because Warhammer World is so great (which I also disagree with).

I also noticed that underworld teams, including slann can be used which will be interesting to see as gw have no figures for them

Last time i checked GW had plenty of goblins skaven and trolls for underworld, Dark elves, goblins and skaven (again) chaos marauders (but wfb ones) minotaurs trolls and ogres for pact teams.

Slann on the other hand are tricky

Chaos Pact = easy (just using BB figures you've got Norse, Big Guys and various BB figs)
Underworld = easy (Skaven, gobbos and Troll)

Slann = either find old Citadel Slann figs, convert from/use kroot or find a "counts as" that won't upset someone.

Im not worried at the lack of slann models as im not using them, just found it odd that theyd include a team that not everyone can convert or scratch build with the whole g workshop overlord mentality thats going on.

GW have nothing to do with the rules.

I thought you were going to your brother-in-law's wedding?

Hi Lamby

I'm genuinely very sorry you can't use the team you've been working on.

To clarify: it's a policy decision by GW not to permit rival products on their property. The inconsistency from last year doesn't help, but that is their position from now on.

I think it's a difficult but worthwhile compromise to make, as Warhammer World is an excellent and very popular venue. We think the continuity is important.

I hope to see your norse team at other events on the circuit...

Lamby,
I'm in almost exactly the same position. I spent several months converting AoW Dwarves specifically for this year's Nottingham tournie.

I was surprised that last year we were allowed to use anything, but I guess that was a 2011 rules oversight, rather than a change of policy. Anyways, I'll just reach for a GW team and the Dwarves will be have their premier at another event 8-(.

Credit to the NAF for making this rule change very clear to us in 2012. And I like the GW Nottingham venue...

Week after - actually could have had the weekend off, but can't be bothered - hopefully can use the time to attend a tourney without such restrictive rules.

1st post here and I've never played a tournie (for BB) but has anyone considered changing the venue to Maelstrom Games 'Eye of the Storm' venue it is in mansfield (not far from nottingham) has a similar size, facilities etc to warhammer world with the added bonus of being unaffilliated to any one gaming company.

Maelstom was considered and rejected - I'm not sure of the exact reasons, but there were some legitimate ones (I think one was cost, but don't quote me on that).

I doubt if you would get 200 people into the Maelstrom venue?
Purplegoo - May 14, 2012 - 12:51 AM
Post subject:
They can, but if you move it away from WW, you'd not get 200. It's easy to under estimate the draw of the venue. I actually also think it's an excellent venue, as it goes. Maelstrom, for instance, could squeeze 200 in, but it would be a massive squeeze, the bar is tiny, eating would be a nightmare... You'd soon be wishing for WW even on a hot day.

Frankly, of all the things GW take stick for; I've always felt that the minis thing was one of the least reasonable. They are a business that needs to make money out of their product, it's perfectly reasonable for them to insist on GW minis being used. I'd not walk into a KFC and proceed to eat other chicken, even if I offered to pay for the table. Their house, their stuff, their rules. And it's worth playing by their rules to be in their house for numbers, space and everything else.

Always good to get a constructive post.

TBH th GW mini's only thing is no biggie for me about 50% of my teams are non gw including some of the stronger teams (my woodies are shadow forge, cd's are imact!, norse from various manufactuers orcs from black scorpion and amazons are phils phigs)

I don't play any other GW game and rarely buy any og thier products but the WW world venue imo is superior to maelstroms venue
