The Blood Bowl Major of the Pacific Northwest and the Great White North is back!

Spike! 2013 saw the Swedish invasion and the 10th anniversary of the Spike! Magazine tournament. Spike! Magazine 2014 will be the year of the British invasion with Geggster, Joemanji and other long time tournament veterans ready to come out and challenge the Pacific North West!

Thanks again to our dedicated crews from Edmonton, Calgary, Washington State and Oregon for their continued support! Hope to see you out this year! Huge thanks to Kaare from Denmark for coming out to defend his title last year - and coming in second place! As well as Jonas, Anders, Dave and Magnus from Sweden for coming out and owning the North American Majors! And it was also great to have Bryan aka Grither from Utah make it out last year. Missed you in Spokane so I was glad to see you make it out to the Spike! 2013.

For those of you unfamiliar with the SPIKE!, the SPIKE! Magazine Blood Bowl Championship is the Canadian Blood Bowl NAF Major. Five "Major" tournments take place annually, each in a different country. They are in chronological order:

1. The Southern Wastes Scrimmage, held each year in January at CanCon in Canberra, Australia.
2. The Dungeonbowl, held each year in March in Duesseldorf, Germany
3. The Blood Bowl (aka NAF Championship), held each year in May at GW HQ in Nottingham, England
4. The Chaos Cup, held this year in early September at the Battle Bunker Chicago, Illinous, USA
5. The Spike! Magazine Trophy, held this year in mid September in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

2014 sees the continuance of the one-week-or-no-more-than-a-fortnight policy between NA Majors, where the organizers of the Spike! Magazine and the Chaos Cup host the 2 North American Majors within 1 week of each other. We started this 4 years ago with Tom, with a fortnight between them in the same month. The second year Johnny and I set them 7 days from each other. And this year due to fortune the Majors are back to one week in between for 2014. For those travellers wishing to make it out for a North American Major now you can try to make it out to both of them in one trip!

I am planning on making this trip this year. Is there a hotel code or discount for the Pacific Inn that we can use? Any suggestions or recommendations for nearby places to stay?

Hey Tom,

That would be awesome to see you out! We have 4 UKers making the trip out this year so be sure to bring your A-game. Wink

As for accommodations I strongly recommend staying at the hotel that we are playing at in White Rock. There isn't a booking code per se, but the is a toll free international number above complete with the booker's name (Ingrid). All you have to do is mention the Spike! when booking to receive one of the reserved rooms as well as the discount.

If you have any difficulty be sure to post again or email me personally at thunder-bowl@hotmail.com .

Thanks for your interest,
Craig.

Flight and room booked. Any chance we have anyone making airport runs. I was told it would be about $70 from the airport to the Inn? I know its only Canadian but it still sounds pricey. I will be arriving at noon on Friday.

Yup that's about right. An airport run is possible, but not planned at this time. If there are more guys arriving at the same time I think it is something we would look into. If not I'll find exact directions using transit and the coach line to get you there for under 25 bucks. A bit more of a hassle for the traveller, but cheaper too. S.

Here is what google gives me for transit options:

http://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Vancouver+International+Airport,+3211+Grant+McConachie+Way,+Richmond,+BC+V7B+0A4/1160+King+George+Hwy,+Surrey,+BC+V4A+4Z2/@49.1182679,-123.0190419,11z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x54860b348627a39b:0xba68ccac86348084!2m2!1d-123.181512!2d49.196691!1m5!1m1!1s0x5485c47001daaf3b:0xb71760985f2d23a0!2m2!1d-122.764545!2d49.023132!3e3

That should cost you under $10 (I think it's $5), but it takes about 90 mins.

You'll have to copy/paste that URL

I had a great time at the Spike. Thanks Keller for your time and the ride. Thanks to the Brits for spanking the Canucks and thanks to to the ThunderBowl crew for hosting it. I'm sorry the new NAF dice are broken. I will replace them with some that have a little less Nuffle taint on them.

Ed thanks for letting me verbally abuse you all weekend.
Thanks to Kevin and his two X one-turn scores and still letting me tie him.
Thanks blammaham for letting me win.
I will look forward to the new venue within the next couple of years.

Sorry for the wait Tom but my brother was waiting until I finished adding new members and renewing accounts. This part I just finished so the results should be added soon.

Can you guys walk us through how the team builds work? For example, 1 point for the first instance of a tier 2 skill. and then 2 points for any other instance of a tier 2 skill. So does that mean if you took a particular tier 2 skills (like fend) and then another different tier 2 skill (pass block), that it would only be 2 points (for the first instance of each costing only 1 point each)? Or, would that be 3 points as you had the first instance of a tier 2 skill, then another tier 2 skill (even though its a different skill)?

Thank you.
