Hey all,

Pretty much the same tournament as the first, but with two minor changes. You will now note that the Leader skill may not be selected. I have also lifted the limit of any one skill allowed to be selected only up to three times. Take Block, or Guard as much as you want! Very Happy

Hope to see a fun mix of teams again. Half the teams last year were tier 3! Granted there were only 6 players, but it was a good time.

There will be trophies awarded for:
-1st Place
-Most Casualties
-Most TDs
-Best Appearance (Paint/Modelling)

love teh concept of your tournament.

Maybe next year you can call it "Mark's bathroom bowl", limited to 4 players (table 2 is in the bathtub Very Happy )

See you next week Wink

That's actually the top table! I have a friend who will be helping out by offering sponge baths to top table participants in order to get his practical experience in for the Nursing program at Algonquin. He also offers additional bath time services for extra, yet reasonable, rates.

Only 2 spots left!

Can I suggest that Buffalo Chris bring his ogres back in an effort to steal the ECTS Stunty Shield? You'd "only" need a 7th place finish to sew it up. (That's assuming the front-runner doesn't play stunties in Southeastern Virginia's last tournament of the year.)

And also assuming that Mark's Apartment Bowl wants to be Canada's final ECTS event of 2015.

If my tournament qualifies, I don't see any issue with being part of ECTS.

Yeah, it definitely does. You're added to the list. Just please be sure to post the final standings here, including NAF IDs and team types. Thanks.

It's just something that becomes a default choice, (at least at Ottawa events), so for spice, we said, "If everyone takes it, why not say no one can and bring the cost of a reroll back to team price".

As opposed to larger discounts for teams with more expensive rerolls.
frostmane - Nov 23, 2015 - 10:32 AM
Post subject:
The problem with no Leader: It punishes teams with expensive players, and favours teams that can take strong starting rosters that are strengthened further via cutting a reroll for a positional.

(Possible) Solution: Make Leader available, but only as a Normal Skill choice. Gives more incentive to take players with P access, and naturally fits more in teams that are more likely to actually need Leader.
Gaixo - Nov 24, 2015 - 07:02 AM
Post subject:
I'm with Mike on this one; I've never understood the issue with Leader. It certainly doesn't strike me as any more broken that putting Dodge on an orc blitzer or Guard on a dark elf.

Plus, there is some risk involved. At the World Cup my zombie Leader was killed by a rock on two occasions, one coming before a single turn had been played. My dark elf runner with Leader has been targeted and killed before he could release his reroll more times than I could count.

Is it possible that the dreaded halfling lobby has gotten to you guys?
Stimme - Nov 24, 2015 - 08:53 AM
Post subject:
Historically, most tournaments here that disallowed Leader had a fixed TV build. You get 1200 and can spend it on players or skills. That in fact favours cheap teams with expensive rerolls like Undead or Chaos Dwarves.

I agree with you that this is less of a problem in skill set tournaments like the world cup.
Lizardcore - Nov 24, 2015 - 08:54 AM
Post subject:
In complement to JTB's answer:

The leader thing got implemented because I sorta abused the system : with chaos dwarves (chaos cup 2012) I took leader (30k) + 2 skills for the price of a reroll. same with undeads at another tournament.

In Europe (world cup), you dont get money for skills, you just get a fixed number of skills, so there is no way to "save on rerolls by taking leader so you can buy extra skills".

You guys like money too much, you don't like "skills", you prefer "20 k Gold" Wink

Frostmane suggestion would work though, as the abusers are mainly Chaos Dwarves and Undeads.

PS: Trash the appartment !

Edit: Stimme you're so fast !

Edit 2: Other explanation: The way Hickling plays clearly show a lack of leader Very Happy

I take LEADER just in case I have to play an evil coach with the master chef!
Chewblocka - Nov 24, 2015 - 06:35 PM
Post subject:
Time for me to weigh in on this conversation, being the tournament organizer and all. So last year I made it so that any skill may be chosen a maximum of 2 or 3 times. This year, after playing in some other tournaments, I thought I would try a different restriction. Also, through conversing with JTB about a team build for a different tournament, we observed that most/many people took Leader at this other tournament. So I pretty much made this decision for everyone this time around. After all, I am organizing this tournament, in MY apartment. Razz You want to take Leader? Host your own Apartment Bowl.

So the only reason I did it was to see how teams will look without Leader. It's only 3 games over one day, so I didn't think it would be that big a deal. Were the tournament 5 or 6 games over 2 days, I probably wouldn't keep this restriction. Next year, I will most likely do something else. Maybe. You'll just have to wait and see. Wink

Before I forget to ask, can you please post the final standings as soon as possible after the tournament, making sure to include the coaches' NAF IDs and the race they used?

Thanks, and good luck with the tournament.

Hey all,
Thanks for the kudos lads! It was fun to have you all over and who didn't have a good time with the countdown song at the end of game 1? I know that SBG and Buffalo enjoyed it with me more than everyone else!!! Smile I think that I've found my new countdown track for the last 10 minutes of a game... the William Tell Overture.

Anyway, sick puppies, Fallout 4 and procrastination aside, here are the results for Mark's Apartment Bowl 2: Games in a Bathtub.

1. Notorirous_jtb: Record: W,W,W TDs: 5 Cas: 7 Lizardmen Tourney Champ & Most Cas
2. Manz62: Record: D,W,W TDs: 6 Cas: 1 Lizardmen Most TDs
3. SBG: Record: D,L,W TDs: 4 Cas: 5 Chaos Dwarf MVP (he who didn't win but was a Jack of all trades and master of none)
4. Buffalo_Chris: D,W,L TDs: 3 Cas: 4 Dark Elf
5. Rando: D,L,L TDs: 3 Cas: 6 Orc
6. jrock56: L,L,L TDs: 2 Cas: 5 Khemri Charlie Brown Christmas Award (at least he has Christmas to look forward too)

Thanks to all who made it out, and to those who couldn't. Life happens.

Looking forward to MAB3. Here is a sneak peek... Every team may select one player on the team to take the Leader skill for free. Whaaaaaaaat!?
