North America - North American Team Championships 2013

fe2mike - Feb 29, 2012 - 08:33 PM
Post subject: North American Team Championships 2013
Calling all Blood Bowl fans!

This is an early announcement for the North American Team Championships being held in Las Vegas next year.

Most of the info is not solidified yet, however we wanted to get the word out as early as possible.

Tentative Dates: 3rd or 4th weekend in April 2013

Tentative Cost: $500-600 per team, this will include hotel and lunches, entry, goodies, etc.

Tentative Goodies: Each coach will get a goody bag. This will include custom dice, counters, and/or dugouts. Also, as a centerpiece there will be a limited edition commemorative figure, or set of figures (maybe even a full team) depending on amount of teams that preregister.

Start saving as we would like to get as many teams as possible!

More details to follow soon, so stay tuned.

I want to start pushing this with my local group, but being the gamer types that they are they will want the details of how many gold, can they buy inducements, skill packs, etc.

Do you have this worked out in advance or is it still under discussion.

I have never used RR's in this fashion, I have always had them on the track & removed them as I used them. I know others that play it that way, but as long as the turn marker is being moved I really do not see why that is mandatory.

We are still talking (big thread) about the skills and what to do and not do with them. It is not gold but the field leans to not staggering the skills like at the WCII. As far as if you can get skills and how many, what type, that is the biggest part of the conversation.

Just one guy's opinion, but I prefer the kind of tourney where people build a roster with skills before the tournament as opposed to picking skills for each round. I never like meta-gaming.

If I can find the flyer from last year's I-CON tournament, they had some really great stuff for skill packs and inducements. It looked like:

      Quote:
Twilight (Chicks dig it. Nerds dig it. Nerdy chicks REALLY dig it. If you pick Twilight, you’ll have a following. An angsty, pale, emo following, but a following nonetheless)
5 x Assistant Coaches
5 x Cheerleaders
2 x Bloodweiser Babes
1 x player gains the “Fan Favorite” skill

Harry Potter (Nothing says “Sci-Fi” like Wizards and book learning)
1 x Wizard
1 x player learns a singles skill
1 x player learns a double skill

Stargate SG1 (O’Neill plays dirty, so should you)
2 x Bribes
2 x players both gain the skills “Dirty Player” and “Sneaky Git”

Star Trek (we’ve got Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, First Officer Spock, and Ensign Ricky)
1 x player gains the “Leader” skill
1 x Wandering Apothecary or Igor
1 x player learns a singles skill
1 x Free Lineman with Loner and Decay

Star Wars (We’ve all seen it before hundreds of times and its a staple of Sci-Fi conventions)
6 x players learn a singles skill (cannot have more than 2 of the same skill)

I'd love to see something balanced, but interesting and again, not helping players metagame versus specific opponents. I am sure some would prefer that, but it's not my favorite modus operandi.
Lizardcore - Mar 04, 2012 - 10:54 AM

@nick_nameless: somehow, in the 17 pages discussions, the consensus emerged to be TV110 + skill pack from the start, to simplify the tourney and save time (no down time for skill picking etc...)

The question is now what type of skill packs.

Doesn't sound "very close to the World Cup II"

at least 11 copies of your roster (1 for us 1 for you and 1 for each opponent)

Here's a wild idea.... ask for your roster back from each opponent.

Skills written (or abbreviation) on the base somehow (write on the the solid base, a little sign whatever as long as they can tell) (NOT this guy with red hair has guard and this guy (same model) with blue hair has block)

I'm not writing skills on my models bases.

I'm not putting "a little sign whatever" on my models.

As for the different color hair denoting skills.... this is actually a GOOD thing. That is a reason why most of us do paint different color hair or helmets. To show opponents they have different skills. There is absolutely no difference between using colors on a model or a different model post altogether to denote skills.

Show me in the CRP/LRB6 rulebook where this is a rule.

Try to foul every turn, you must foul if the following models go down: Big Guy, Witch Elf, Upgraded move Gutterrunner, AG 5 elf or slann, and any snotling.

No.

Are you serious bro?

I know someone may argue what's the difference in some of these crazy rules than the Etiquette Sheet I setup for Chaos Cup.

The difference is, those are based on feedback I've received in my 6 years of running tournaments that people have asked for to try and enforce a fun environment for each game.

When it comes to rulings, or even suggestions, please consider the difference between sensible requests (models numbered and skills noted on roster) to your own personal tastes and how you play.

You want to maximize attendance right?
This is an event 90% of attendees will be flying to right?
Keep all that in mind.

Just a suggestion from a guy who voted for your bid. Cool

Finally somebody that acknowledges the real spirit of Blood Bowl.
It's so easy to implement: If no foul has been performed on one of the above-mentioned models, the last player having done an action on the pitch before the turn ends is being ejected by the referee. Call it "Foul Disappearance".

Screw that, I'm all for fouling , but if I'm unable to foul for any reason I should not be punished, and have a player ejected,

Warpstone tokens fit into the fluff of the the theme of my tourney but you do not have to use them it is an option, not the same has stating you 'have' to do this or that....

& what do you mean unless it was 10 mins from my house, that I wouldn't be there? You have made it to 4 tournies compared to the 33 I have attended, (not saying 33 is a lot compared to some people, but its a fair more than 4) If your going to take a jab at someone at least have your facts in order!

Dugout I honestly don't care about, but then all the Rat City boards have them built in. Wink I would say again dugout is a waste of money. Spend it all on the sculpting/manufacture of the team. If that's top tier, the rest doesn't matter. A well sculpted and cast team giveaway would be a great draw.

I know you can't give away all your secrets, but I'm sure there's a # that's needed to get a team made. Keep in mind that getting a team made will also raise attendance.
It's easier to tell someone "You go and you get an exclusive team that is worth your entry alone" vs "You go and get an exclusive model that is cool".
Once the teams are confirmed(if you do that option), I'll be pushing that as a HUGE incentive for going.

Yeah it was suppose to be funny.

As for NATC rules, I don't imagine them being much different from the rules used at the last World Cup:

"1.1M Team build. Before round 1 you may assign three skills to three separate players on your roster. Before round 4 and round 7 you may assign two skills to two separate players on your roster. No player can get more than one extra skill during the tournament.

All skills are ‘normal’ skills. Before round 4 and 7 one of the skills may be a ‘double’.

All skills must be noted on the team roster your team captain hands in to the organization when registering your team on day 1.

For the rest, good luck (but keep it as simple as possible. Ask people to bring their own stuff as much as possible, you can even reuire that the captain of each team check that everything is ok with his team).

Here is the answer that I got:

each of the bottom 3 teams will play against 1/2 of the other two teams in the bottom half. We should be able to insure that no squad will face another squad more than one and a half times.

To correct/clarify, "each of the bottom 3 teams will play against 1/2 of the other two teams in the bottom three." Some squads may need to play half of another squad more than once, but one squad should never face another squad more than twice and no single player will play the same player twice.

Here are the rankings:

As I expected, the Europeans came in and kicked our asses, with the Teutonic Terrors taking the champion plaques
The Thunderballlers Team from Vancouver took Most Prolific (TD), and DrunkAssGamers from the East Coast took Most Devastating (CAS)
Iron Mike's Team Shh, We Have a Hangover Got the Wooden Spoon
Mad Dawgs from the Midwest placed 2nd overall, Blame Canada was third.

Although there were no prizes for individuals, Marc Hohmann from Teutonic Terrors was best scoring individual, Cole Filipek from Orkland Dudes had the most touchdowns, and Brian Tew from Rocky Mountain Rampagers took most casualties.

Finally, the Canadians took the big cup with a final score of Canada 133, USA 124. I will finish getting the cup engraved and bring it to Spike! to hold until the next NATC.

Thanks to Jeff and Shawn for running the first ever NATC. You guys set the bar, and made it a pleasure to play in. Congrats to the Germans for reminding us in North America, that we arent quite there yet for the international stage. ;P

Congrats to all my Canadian bretheren for winning the overall National standing. I would say its a team effort, but really, I had very little to do with it.

Looking forward to NATC 2017 in (insert winning city here)

Wow, what an experience! Vegas was crazy, lost too much at poker. I liked the nationalparks (Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon) better, very epic and majestic.

The tournament itself was very enjoyable. I`m glad that I didn`t drag my teammates down with my matches. They did great and I`m super-happy that we won!

The coaches at the tournament were very nice, great atmosphere. Pleased to meet you all (and sorry when I was complainig too much).

I felt that that the tournament was wrapped up too fast after the last game. The announcement of all winners, second place, most TD, etc. was too rushed IMHO.

Great tournament, thanks for running it and having us. I felt very welcome. I also liked the prizes (got a Scotling team).

See ya!

Thanks for running this tournament.

I had a lot of fun and met some pretty good and fun to play coaches.

The giveaway miniatures were pretty awesome. I am now bummed I already have a skaven team AND an underworld team Razz But I' m sure I'll find a use for those awesome rats.

I always enjoy playing in a team tournament setting, in my opinion it increases the fun.

Thanks to Brad for being our #4.

I will second Lars for the award ceremony though, it was kind of rushed.

I would also that add that, in my opinion, the time allocation for each round was either too short or too strict. Given the setting and the relatively limited number of teams, I would have expected some flexibility to allow players to finish their games, at least on the first two days. If there were some hard deadlines for the room, games could always have been wrapped up by the swimming pool. People traveled from all over the place for the tournament and it's always frustrating not to be able to finish a game.
I know 2:15 was the time frame used at the world cup, but when you count, this doesn't allow you to play a complete game if players use their full 4 minutes (if you had pre-game and kick-offs setup).
But it may be because I' m french and used to tournament always running late. Again, it's just the opinion of someone whose epic come back was crushed on turn 15.5 by strict time rules Smile

Congrats to the Teutonic Terrors and to the Canadians who won while being outnumbered I believe.

Also, the first round on the final day seems to be missing a match, since it only has 23 matches entered, but all the other rounds have 24.
And I think there were supposed to be 25 matches per round. I am going from memory, but there were 13 teams, and two had three players. So that should be 50 coaches. Correct?

And my missing match is from the second day first round.

Anyways, just want to try and help clear this up so it hopefully gets fixed soon.
