Is there any way to instruct the Direct Service staff to have our ticket/rule set held on site, in sort of a "Will Call" so we don't have to risk the mails?

Then, can we get a plain T-shirt instead? I seldom wear T-shirts, and when i do, it's only plain, coloured one. A T-shirt with Spike! printed on it would end up as my laundry shirt, at best.

Hey guys,

Spike! tickets will be available online as early as 12am on Monday (Sunday night I guess you could call it Wink). If you want to order one by phone, Direct Services is open at 9am EST.

The web site might be up tonight, you can download a PDF of the rules there.

I am getting pretty excited now! too bad I can't play!

Anthony-
I have another question for you...well two actually. Very Happy

#1. I see that the Halfling Master Chef costs 150K, but I didn't see the cost associated with Special Ingredients. Does that mean one roll only?
If not, what do the additional rolls cost?

#2 How do the rules handle the Rotters created by a Beast of Nurgle's victims? I hear that some tourneys let the coach of the Nurgle's Rotters take the "new" Rotter(s) for the remainder of the current game. How will they be handled for the Spike! Tourney?

Thanks in advance. -Rob
Zombie - Aug 22, 2004 - 09:52 AM
Post subject:
I can answer #2 : Undead teams can't raise the dead, so i'm pretty sure that Nurgle teams can't either.

As for #1, i suspect that they were still thinking of the old rules without ingredients when they wrote that. In the current rules, the master chef himself is free.

For tournaments I've recommended 1 of the 3 methods for the Chef ...

1) Chef is free for his first roll, extra ingredients are 60k a piece (used this for GenCon). 2+ gets/takes a reroll.

2) 150k for the old LRB 2.0 Master Chef. D6/2 round down extra rerolls.

3) 150k for the Vault 1.5.1 Master Chef. 3D6 roll. Get/Steal a reroll for each 2+.

As a Fling coach ... any of these 3 methods is fair for the Flings.

It says that all models must be appropriate painted Citadel miniatures. It also says that all coaching staff must be represented. Does this mean that if i only have a Shadowforge apothecary, i can't heal any players? Games Workshop doesn't even sell apothecaries!

I use a grey seer for my appoth.

My head coach is a grey seer painted in team colours, & my appoth is a grey seer painted white, with bloodied hands.

I'd say any kind of wizard could pass for an appoth

3 Gutters (240k)
1 Thrower (70k)
6 Linemen (300k)
3 RR's (180k)
3 FF

Stormvermin for the blocks to take out ball carriers and blitz every turn, plenty of gutters for ball handling, enough RR's for some fun stuff and a thrower for assurance with the ball. Good luck Ben! You'll need it if you face off against my stunties with beards!

Beer is always great, & I played Guillotene at the GenCon last week. If you like games I have the game for you...

If you like laughing out of control & making farm animal noises (no, not a scene from Deliverance) Then 'SNORTA' is the game for you.

I could also bring another great party game I discovered at the GenCon called 'APPLES to APPLES'

You know for those in between tourney, too drunk to play or set up BB moods! Wink

Hmmm, I don't think you should be trying to take the SPIKE away from any TBBF'ers as this'll probably be the toughest challenge yet. But as for you and Clan Skaven not allowing me to win, bring it on little girl.

Right, the Monte Carlo in Oakville has rooms free for $89.99 a night and that includes breakfast. Also the Day Inn in Oakville now has rooms available at $109 per night. It has the advantage of being very near the Battle Bunker as it's at North Service Road and Winston Churchill.

Hope that helps a bit. Wink

Yeah I'm still not sure of the best way to do sportsmanship. This one was OK I suppose but it still isn't clear enough. Part of the problem is that everyone has a different notion of what bad sportsmanship is - ie. calling IPs, stalling, looking up rules.

I still think TD diff is the best way to break ties because it rewards both offence and defence. Most teams that can dish out the beatings can take them too which is why I only ever use it as a secondary tie breaker.
Zombie - Sep 21, 2004 - 03:35 PM

I proposed something for sportsmanship after the tournament, and the guys i was talking to thought it was a good idea. Have people give scores of 1 to 3, but they can't give more than one 3 and one 1.

This should be enough for an above average sportsman to stand out from the crowd (and similarly for a below average one). It also avoids the problem of people giving all 3s most of the time.

AnthonyTBBF,

Now that I hear your thoughts on why TD's are used as the tie braker, I see where you are coming from...but it still favors the fast teams the way it stands. Why not use TD for/TD Against differential? That adds another step for the TO to figure out, but percenatges do more to take away any racial advantage more then straight-TDs do.

Just a thought...
-Rob

If you look at how the Spike! turned out...Torg was the only team to have beaten the eventual champion. Furthermore, I believe that he only gave up 2 TDs in the whole process. If I am remembering that correctly, that's a pretty tough pill to swallow to have not made the final at a point when you are undefeated AND won and tied against the teams "ahead" of you in the only head-to-head match-ups.
AnthonyTBBF - Sep 22, 2004 - 07:22 AM

TD differential was used as the tie-breaker, not TDs scored.
Kolja_TBBF - Sep 22, 2004 - 07:23 AM

I believe TD differential was what was used. Tds for - Tds against.

Ben, Torg (who I assume is Todd?) and myself were all tied for points after round 5. Ben was way ahead on TD differential and I was ahead of Torg. Knowing the system, I had taken some risks throughout the day to get TDs, even when the games were already won and all I would have to do is stall.

Anthony,

Similar to what Zombie was saying, I believe that if people rated everyone from one to three, but then chose one person who they felt was the best sport of the lot, (hard, I know seeing as you were all such a great bunch!) but by choosing the one they felt was the best, this would certainly narrow down the field, if not determine the overall "best".

I believe that a similar system was implemented at the Conflict, no?

It did go into OT. That's when i scored my 3rd TD. It took minimum 3 turns for me to score a TD, so it would have been impossible for me to score 3 in the 2nd half alone. The game ended after 3 turns of OT.

I think a problem that came up in the end was that kojila, Ben, torg and I were the top 4. torg had already played ben and kojila but Ben was #1 with TD diff. So I played Ben and kojila/torg played the next ranked players. If I had played torg and ben/kojila played each other there probably wouldn't have been a need for a tie breaker. But it doesn't matter to me since I was out anyway. More for Torg---just a crappy way to get knocked out and it didn't make me beating him in the final game any fun since he was "out of it".

Now now, lets not get hastey!

I'm sure there are very good reasons why the SPIKE results are not in.

I just hope they are in before I go to the Death-Bowl. Smile

Yes it is my duty but there is a lot of Naf information i still need in order to complete the tournament entry. Should not be much longer.

I figured the deadline was way up. Currently i'm working on the miniature for Brian's Deathbowl he had asked me to paint. I could paint the Thrower at the same time if you still want it. I have time now. Let me know.

The 3rd deadline just passed so I'll have to pull your name from the draw. If you want to paint it so that the mini will be included on the team as part of NAF history that's cool, but it's really up to you. Very Happy

Congrats again on your Spike! win and hope to get revenge against your orcs/skaven at another tourney soon Very Happy
