Post subject: Death Bowl VI: The Year of Chaos (October 18 & 19, 2008)
Anouncing that Deathbowl VI: The Year of Chaos will be held in Ottawa on the 11th and 12th of October.

The venue is the same one as for this years CCKO which is very suitable and has a bar upstairs with some food and is a short (2/3 mins) walk from a grocery store and numerous food and beverage outlets of goodness on bank street in downtown ottawa.

The Montgomery Legion
330 Kent Street
Ottawa, On
K2P 2A6
Canada

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=montgomery+legion+330+kent,+ottawa&ie=UTF8&ll=45.413907,-75.697453&spn=0.005325,0.009978&z=17&iwloc=A&om=0

The website will be updated soon and we will have the rules up shortly. Presently they are the same as last year but with the Chaos team allowed to take mutations at the team selection phase for 10K rather than 20k.

Expect to see more exceptional trophies and custom dice along with a custom miniature. We are starting a tradition this year whereby we give out a miniature designed and inspired by the previous years winner. So this year we will be giving out a goblin designed by Alex Garrett and produced (hopefully) by IMPACT miniatures. Pictures as soon as we have them.
We are trying to move from prizes just for the winners to mementos for everyone who plays at the event

More to follow,

JTB

yeah i did say 20K but on further review it feels uneccesary to make the exception. It is DEATHbowl after all Smile

Chaos teams will still need to purchase other skills to make it all effective so doesn't make it too bad. I could be made to eat my words but we shall see.......

Yeah thats right cramy, sorry eric.

Only the Chaos team may purchase mutations at 10k, the other teams must pay 30k as normal.

To be a bully, or not to be a bully, that is the question...

Leave it to Joe to quote the bard!

Try this one on:
Now is the winter of Spazz's discontent
Made glorious summer by the reign of Chaos;
And all the clouds that low'r'd upon his dice
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

If you change it make it the week after (as to be not too close to my tourney)

I dunno Joe, would you want some of your fellow countrymen to come and see you be systematically broken down and destroyed by the Four Hosers of the Apocalypse?

Hoser One - Dan Campbell - an enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in a cruchy taco shell. Dan "Chaos" Campbell is being mysterious about which team that he brings to the Deathbowl, but whatever it is will spell doom for Byers and the Ottawa boyz

Hoser Two - Eric Rubli - Recent victory during the Stunty Cup has given Eric an insatiable taste for victory. Eric's previous collection of spoons will be used to paddle the a$$es of the boyz of Otta-wawa and Goat-in-o. The Sleepr has woken, and he thirsts for more victory.

Hoser Three - BenTusim - Recent reports of Ben's lack of incentive have been greatly exaggerated. Once the highest ranking coach in Canada, Ben is looking to regain his throne and looks to his fellow hosers to help him to do so (at least until Spazzfist takes him, and the rest of the world over). Any opponents have been lulled into a false sense of security by his recent tournament performances will be in for a rude surprise as he paints the streets of the capital city with the blood of his foes (as well as more of his own vomit!)

Hoser Four - Craig Thompson-Wood - Also known as Spazzfist. Anything more need to be said? A hero to many; a Blood Bowl God to all. Winner of the Spike! '06. Bongo Bowl Champion. #1 Nurgle coach in the world are a condensed version of my many achievments. I am going to bring the pain so hard and fast that all those who meet me on the pitch will be explaining their scars to the grandchildren (provided that they have already borne children). Mercy will not be given, pleas will go unheard, tears will only provide me with greater incentive to pound and maim and kill my way to Deathbowl victory! Nefarious JTB will be dealt with extreme prejudice, to be made an example of to all others who would stand before Spazzfist. Bow down and worhsip me. I am your king.

Countdown is five months ladies. Better put your affairs in order before then. 'Cuz once Spazz enters the border of Ottawa, you can kiss all yhour hopes for victory goodbye.

Winner of the Spike? Um no you were the winner to the Spike warm up (warm up = those who have not the degree of incentive to be in the actual Spike!) Yes Joe he has won the Bongo Bowl, but that was not a major. Ben did win the Spike (Spazz failed to mention, but as a fellow Spike Champion I'll pay respects to my fellow ellite!

Blah blah blah! Let's face it man, the Spike! Warm-Up was as warm as it got, when your toughest competition was the worst player in Canada, then it is hardly considered a contest! And for what it was worth, the Spike! Warm Up was counted as a major.

But if you look at my tourney performance in some of the last few tourneys I have attended:

CCKO'08 - finsihed higher than Byers
Bongo Bowl '07 - finished higher than Byers
Challenge of Q'ermitt IV - even though I played Goblins and didn't play the last two games I still finished higher than Byers!

I am on a roll, and now that the starts have aligned to allow the Chaos team to flourish, I will finish the job which so many have little enough incentive to do. I will beat Joe Byers in his own tournament on his own home turf. No time clocks will save you this time Joe! Spazz is hunting you down!

There I am on the left holding my prize, where's your proof Spazz?.........

Don't worry Ottawa, Spazz will not contend for much of anything higher than a simple stepping Stone for those of us true Champions that have earned the right to be called Champion.

Hey guy, the only thing that that proves is that they either pulled some a couple of homeless guys from the bus shelter to pose for the pics, or you are not very photogenic!

If you read my simple words carefully, I never said that you did not win the Spike!, merely that it was not a contest worthy of such an honour.

For the rest of you, let this ramblings of this insolent baboon trouble you not. For it is I. the mighty Spazzfist that you needs worry about! Tales of my glorious conquest will be passed down from generation to genration. Children who are naughty will be told that if they are not good that Spazzfist will come to town to whip their a$$es at Bloodbowl. New religions will be formed in my name, with me being their holy leader, deity and god. Women will flock to me to bear my seed in hopes of having my greatness passed onto their family line.

You should be impressed. I am a very impressive person. But as impressed you are with me now, it will be nothing compared to the hero-worship that you shall feel when you are mercilessly crushed by me at the Deathbowl!

If i were to attend on the Thanksigivng weekend, then all of Ottawa would give thanks for my gracing their fine city with my presence. There would be banner and parades in my honour, and it would be glorious.

But if I came up on Thanksigiving then Mrs. Spazz would kill me, so count that as a no....

So not many coaches prepayed yet.

The rules are available and everyone who's email I have has been sent a copy. If you want a copy email deathbowl@gmail.com or wait until Eric uploads one to the DBVI website. which he may sort out sometime soon.

The prepayment discount deadline is August 19th (tuesday). as we need to pay for the room and order some stuff in advance, and later payments help us way less.
You can mail me a cheque but it has to arrive really soon for it to be helpful, paypal to notorious_jtb@yahoo.com is quickest.

Door price will be $40 for NAF members and $45 to non members.

let the trash talk and rules bending begin!

So as I'm clear on team building rules...... (Joe as been all over the board & comepleatly wishy-washy on a final answer on the Death Bowl VI rules pertaining to Chaos!)

All mutations including Claw will be 10K for Chaos (with no limmit or cap to how many of the same mutation may be chosen?)

Plus no player may be given more than 6 upgrades.

1,250,000 team building price?

Skills/Upgrades Costs: STR 50K, AGI 40K, MA or AV 30K, a doubles roll 30K, normal roll 20K, *Chaos teams only all mutations 10K*

yeah I have no idea either.

However, the payments I have recieved/been promised have helped me cover the rental price so I am still pleased Smile

We are all booked in for sure at the Montgomery Legion

We are in the downstairs room, same place as the CCKO '08
Those who came to the CCKO know there is a bar upstairs that serves all day, and people who come to the tournament are welcome to go and enjoy the sat entertainment the legion has on in the evening (no idea what it is yet).

Cramy - Sep 18, 2008 - 10:07 AM

My understanding is that the rings are not mandatory, but if there is any chance of positional confusion in your team, PLEASE, PLEASE put rings on them. Or coloured dots on each side of the base. DeathBowl is confusing enough, coaches don't need to have to try to figure-out what player is what on the pitch. With the time limit rule, nobody will appreciate spending some of their precious time trying to figure things out.

Some example teams that will greatly benefit from base rings.
GW Elf, GW Amazon, and some custom teams. If you have a custom team and it is not easy to differenciate positionals, please put base rings.

But Joe's the boss, so we'll see if he has anything to correct or add. Smile

Dan, I don't remember what your Khemri positionals are easy to differentiate, but if your Thro-Ras, Blitz-Ras and Skeletons are very easy to differntiate, then all is good.

Yeah what Cramy said.

It really is just to help your oponents and yourself work out which players are which quickly.
You also get some painting points for stuff being obvious too, so it could help you in multiple ways.

It can look pretty good too.

As started with the 1st Deathbowl I attended (DBIV), which was the 1st to have a race specific theme, I created team logos. So, I shall continue the tradition and present this as the temporary logo for my team since I cannot come up with a better name as of right now.

I was feeling kinda 'gansta' when I came up with this idea and it does not realy fit the team as it stands right now. But, I held a poll in the local area for the team name and this was the result. This is the last time I hold a vote in Brampton where everyone wants to be 'gangsta' despite their middle income status. Go Brampton!!! Where local 'Bloods', 'Crips' and 'Ghosts' all exist in harmony despite their mutual hatred, and desire to killl eachother exists in other areas Confused . Gotta love this town . . . Rolling Eyes

you lazy so and so!

it is at the top of tha page dude!!! the same one you posted on.

Base rings are NOT compulsory.

However, they could help you get some points for painting.
And they can be nice for your oponent.

The painting points are added to your tournament points to determine the final standings.
The maximum points each team can get is 2.5, just less than one win!

Painted : All models are fully painted, with a minimum of 3 colours 0.5
Based: All models have a painted and textured base. 0.5
Numbered: All models are numbered in a visible way. 0.5
Detailed: All models are highlighted/shaded or detailed in a noticeable way. 0.5
Conversion: At least one model on the team is significantly different to normal 0.5
Representative: All the models on the team are representative of the player they depict. Or The models are identified by their base ring colour (see appendix) 0.5
Notorious_jtb - Sep 22, 2008 - 07:39 AM
Post subject:
just for completeness i thought I would include the tournament points from Gameplay here

Tournament points from Game play
Win vs. direct opponent = 3
Tie vs. direct opponent = 1
Loss vs. direct opponent = 0

Bonus points
Scored most TDs on table = 2
Tied for most TDs on the table =1
Caused the most CAS (from blocking) on the table = 1

So for each game you can get a maximum of 6 points
(3 win vs direct opponent, +2 for most TDs on table and +1 for most CAS)

As there are 4 games at the tournament the absolute maximum from gameplay is 24 points
It is unlikely anyone will get 4 maximums...........

The painting points will be added to the gameplay points to determine who finishes where so 1st place could be decide by painting.

If you look at the points scoring for painting it is only about effort not ability. And there are 6 categories, each worth half a point, so you only need to meet 5 of them to get the maximum points.

MAGNETS

For anyone who is interested, I have ordered more magnets of various sizes, and in order to be able to use my credit card I had to order $50 worth of product which is a LOT of magnets! I suggest we only buy the beer when we get into the city so we are not carrying that with us. This time, I am only bringing the one team, so no worries about me bringing several cases like I did to Niaggaroth! Very Happy

The only thing that is going to be awkward is the new wooden spoon - but I am sure we can work it out.

Every year is year of the dwarf Wink

Actually don't want to distract from this years theme. We will make an announcement at the end of the presentation ceremony.

Numbers wise jrock56 has it pretty much right. Although there are a bunch of people that are on the fringes of the scene right now who are potential attendees.

I figured Rob was coming but had not confirmed it yet. That's cool though, I think that gives us 17 for sure right now which includes the 2 odd men out so not a bad scenario.

You had better not be one of the odd men out Little Pup! I am going to destroy you once and for all!

One of my chaos warriors is named "Hok" which is an acronym for Hound of Khorne! This big dog is going to tear you apart like a rottweiler on a chihuahua!

You will be my first victim of many. All will die who dare to oppose me!

Post subject:
Oh don't you worry Spazzbit**, I don't plan on being an odd man out. I already missed Rod's tourney last month when I planned on attending. Just an FYI you will be able to find me on table 1, that is if you can make it anywhere near it!!!! Your Chaos Warrior you speak of sounds like something I just "Hok"ed out of my lungs. Pitiful at best.

I'd say may the best man win but that choice is too easy as I will crush you into utter oblivion when we face off...you don't even want to be at the same table as me cause while I score on my direct opponent I'll bash your skull in just for good measure.

So I have the up to date attendees so far:

Rob P, Rod D, Craig T-W, Eric R, Ben T, Peter M, Dan Chaput, Patrick G, Adam J, Glenn J, Joe B, Mark D, Marc-Andre, Stephan C, Alex, Rob K, Leathan K, Colin K, Steve T, Chris Wilson.

That makes 20 so far, a good even number, if we can get to 24 great but otherwise that works out perfectly.

Little Pup, I really hope that we are at the same table (which will have to be the first game, because after that I am moving up while you stay down with the bottomfeeders) because I am going to make such an example of you!

Even if you are not across from me, I am going to run my beastman with the ball through your endzone before scoring on my opponent just to rub it in your face. Don't even talk about stopping me, because it is hard for your players to prevent this when they are screaming in agony from the Casualty box! Twisted Evil

Laughing )

& lets not forget I am the Casualty Champ for Death-Bowl IV & Death-Bowl V, will I Threepeat? We will see won't we!

I do have a score to settle with the Pup from last years Death-Bowl, so Spazz don't get in my way when I tame the Pup, or you too will be beaten down!

There I'm done !

Rod, don't even go there..... Your beast-b!tches will be like every other team that I see, just a bunch of players who don't even know that they are dead yet. I am just going to help them realize that. I know (because you have told the story many times) about your grudge with the Pup, but he and I have a three game tie streak going that I am going to end when I mercilessly crush him! My intentions are purely vengeful. Once I have crushed his team and his spirits, then he is all yours!

Furthermore, you do not stand a chance at the Most Casualties this year, because the Blood God will be favouring my Khorne team and I will spill blood and take skulls in his name! With three teams worth of victms in every game my casualty count will soar far beyond even that of the Big Dog at the Q'ermitt! 32 casualties will seem like nothing when I am done!

That's because he did not take the unstoappable ogre team that I made for the DeathBowl. Instead he went for one uber-ogre and a nuch of vanilla ones. Too many eggs in one basket.

My team is perfectly designed. My strategy will be flawless and my dice will favour me.

Spazz even if you did design the perfect team to win, it's the many flaws in your gameplay that cause you so many losses...How do I word that again...emotionally challenged, it affects your gameplay drastically. All I need to do to beat you is get you upset about something in the game and it's down the tubes for you. LOL

How the hell is that more ammo for Adam?? So you beat my ogres, with your orcs..... hmmm... not the hardest match up to win! You also used your orcs against my halflings. and may I remind you that the game should have ended in a TIE, except that Brian St. James forces us to play another half of OT. As it stands right now 5 people need beds. From what I understand Glenn is the primary crash location but I am not sure how many he can hold comfortably.

My guess is that we will play it by ear on arrival and then call around if we need more beds.

Though if there is a FIFA tourny I am in, if for not other reason to see Rod cause a Penelty-Shot~Save~Penalty-Shot situation. That was gold, along with his Keeper watching the ball SLOWLY rolling across the goal line. Good times were had . . . until we relised it was 5AM!!!

OK, Cool. Will talk to him about it tommorow. Do not want to see anyone without dice who have paid. Check y'all in a week. Peace!!

Really cool looking Rod. Whats the colour scheme going to be on the team? Thinking this year might be a hard one on the voting for BEST TEAM.....

Thanks man, well as far as team colours it will be Gold & Dark Blue like the St. Louis Rams. All the Beastman's horns will be same gold. Thier fur/skin will be various blacks/browns/greys & there will be other contrasting colours reprisenting mutations.

The easy & fun part is done (green stuff & glue) , now its painting, gawd I hate painting....

Question regarding Safe Throw & Death-Bowl....

T = thrower
X= target
A,B,C= possible people that can intercept

=========================================================

T...............B.........C..................A.................X

Ok I know if "B" misses the interception "C" gets a shot , then "A" if "C" fails.

What if "B" does intercept it, but the "T" uses Safe Throw skill to cancell interception. Does "C" then get to try & intercept the pass & if "C" fails, does "A" still get thier chances to still intercept?

I do know each team can only try one interception per turn, no matter how many in line they have. So for arguments sake plyers A,B,C are from the other 3 opponents to the Thrower....

Don't have the rulebook in front of me, but what does it say under the skill description for Safe Throw?
Daggers - Oct 14, 2008 - 01:43 PM
Post subject:
With Safe Throw you make an AG roll, if you succeed, the interception is cancelled.
With regards to Clan-Skavens question, assuming all three opponents were on three different teams. I believe each player would attempt to intercept the pass (in order from closest to farthest from the throw), and for each successful interception the passing player would roll safe throw for each. So in theory, the passing player could need to make three safe throw rolls against three opponents.

Of course the likelyhood of this actually happening is so remote, I doubt it will ever come up.

Since there seems to be enough interest, I can host a FIFA tourney. I will confirm later. I am assuming this is for Friday night when everyone arrives. And I am NOT playing til 5am, no f#$%ing way. It took me forever to get going the next day, I was so sluggish I felt like I had been drugged.

HMM, maybe next time I should just skip the BB tourney and host a 24-hour FIFA tourney.

Yes.

3 interception attempts may occur before the pass roll.
A safe throw roll occurs after each "successful" safe throw roll.
So absolutely you could need to make 3 safe throw rolls before you even get to see if you made an accurate pass. crazy huh!

It is not a case of not wanting to run my mouth about beating you, as there is no need for me to do it. I do look in other regions infrequently, and we [ i.e. Canadians] tend to have 50+% more posts; all of which is pure smack.

Which may be a good reason that the 'Internationals' do not understand our humour when we rag on facetious arguments. OR, when were are drunk and post fcuked up things . . . not pointing fingers Razz

Here is a little bedtime poem that I thought I would share in light of my team . . . sweet dreams . . .

Keep away from Pumpkinhead,
Unless you're tired of living,
His enemies are mostly dead,
He's mean and unforgiving,
Laugh at him and you're undone,
But in some dreadful fashion,
Vengeance, he considers fun,
And plans it with a passion,
Time will not erase or blot,
A plot that he has brewing,
It's when you think that he's forgot,
He'll conjure your undoing,
Bolted doors and windows barred,
Guard dogs prowling in the yard,
Won't protect you in your bed,
Nothing will, from Pumpkinhead.

It would help you compinsate for your utter lack of game anyway. I have a list for you to;

1: Your soother that your wife gives you every night so you don't have nightmares.
2: A rocking chair to give you solace after your constant embarrassment.
3: Lastly a blanky you can carry around with you so you feel safe around all the bad guys that may put a hurting on you this weekend

Since you like to play dress up with Pete you should Come as BERT and ERNIE maybe you could actually get some of the action you yearn for which is why you really come to these tournaments isn't it ? Laughing Laughing Mr. Green

Where was I? I was playing Deathbowl like a MAN, taking a manly team. As I recall this year at Deathbowl was the Year of Chaos, and so what did I take? Chaos! What did you take, let me think for a second..... oh that's right! Wood Elves! So while I was knee deep in blood and gore, holding onto that top spot for casualties until the last game, you were prancing about in your tights and planning your next appearance on Richard Simmons new talk show. Laughing Laughing

But don't look at what table I was on Pup, for the Year of Chaos, I was the #1 Chaos coach. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it! Twisted Evil

Of for sure. I got a laugh when Eric told me that he checked out some of the Eurpoean forums and they are WAY shorter than ours, as all their posts are announcing who is coming and rules clarifications. Our posts get up to the 20 page mark, and about 75% of it is pure smack talk! I love it!

No kidding! You know, when you think of it, even in the tournament standings we were both first in our own categories! You were the #1 DB team, and I was the #1 Chaos team (which in this particular tourney is significant) When will the madness end? Shocked

@Joe - Looking forward to seeing the standings, and overall points. Just torturing myself with the "what if's" and imagining if I had stopped Wilson from scoring that last TD, I would have had four more points! Would like to see what my Jihad against Meers has cost me! Sad

One thing that was great this year was the team presentation. No unpainted models, and only 2 from 20 teams not achieving the maximums on model points. Which is ace. Hopefully for the CCKO all teams will get the points and they won't be a factor at all in determining the final standings Smile

Stop being such a Spazz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe ignore him please.....

I like all tournies being different (Spazz can never grasp that concept apparently)

Besides as far as I can see the CCKO gives you 1,000,000 to your team & 80,000 tor upgrades/skills (with Chaos "even with mutations at 10,000, that leaves you F-all for a team...)

Please leave Death-Bowl as is & CCKO as it is (2 separite tournies run by one group of guys)

(I know Spazz wants every tourney to combine all the rules to be the same!!!!!!!!! , He must cause he keeps trying to suggest stuff like "hey it worked great in this other tourney lets add it here....to another tourney")

Spazz I luv ya like a brother, but everytime you make a moronic sugestion to add something from one tourney to another, I'm there to shoot it down................

As rare as this is, I have to agree with Clan_Skaven. I like the fact that every tourney has a different style to it. Once you start combining everything, the uniqueness is lost. Also, contrary to what some other people say, I tihnk it makes you look pathetic because you can't come up with an original idea. That whole "immitation is the best form of flattery" is a crock. A compliment is the best form of flattery, stealing someone elses idea because you like it is just lazy.

I am more of the thought that every TO should take their main idea and keep trying to improve the running of the tournament. Q'ermitt has the special fields, so instead of the trying to add in the "draft" which the CCKO uses, continue building various fields to the point where you have so many custom fields that it make take a coach two or three tournaments to play on them all, thus giving them something to look forward too. "I wanted to play on the new (insert race) field, but didn't get to play on it. Man, it looked fun, I hope I get to play on it next year". And there is one returning coach. Some goes for Lakeside with the two teams of coaches, NBBO with the two playing teams, and CCKO with the draft.

Now, by no means I am saying that every TO ahs to come up with some custom idea. I think a simple swiss-style tourney with standard teams is a nice break every so often.

I was just using that combination as an example. If you wanted me to get more specific, I could have brought up the possible use of "The Draft" at the (possibly soon to be defunct) Canadian Open.

Has any found a can of clear coat? I lent it to Rod and never seen it since. It may have been left it at Glenn's. And the fact that I needed it an hour ago does not help . . . ugh!

No, but I have a can of clear coat here that I think Rod left here a long time ago, so you can have it, and then it's all good!
