North America - Beantown Brouhaha IV - June 23rd - Grand Minors Event

Post subject: Beantown Brouhaha IV - June 23rd - Grand Minors Event
June 23rd at GW - Harvard Square is confirmed.

Due to popular demand and diminished out-of-state and out-of-country attendees we are going to go with a one-day event for Beantown Brouhaha IV and plan on a triumphant return to the two-say format in 2008 for Beantown Brouhaha V!

I am going to ninja Maureen's Grand Minors format as it really was a great way to spend a day playing BB. More to follow.

Right now tentative date is 06/23&06/24 (not confirmed yet).

Maybe Rob has 15-20 early registrations after Ben's announcement! Smile

Seriously Rob...15-20 players local to Bah-stahn? That would be great. You have some early committals from Odie, etc?

No Rhody Rampage this year. I've got one semester left to finish my MBA degree. So it looks like BruHaha and GenCon will be on my schedule. Smile

As spokesmen of the Harrisburg Mafia I am officially announcing our boycott of the Beantown Brouhaha for one calendar year. After the city of Boston, excercising unimaginably blind ignorance and malfeasance, detonated images of Mooninite Err, we as a group have decided to show our undivided support for the Mooninites and all other races and minorities who have tasted the bitter draught that is persecution and discrimination. We, as a group, representing the enlightened commonwealth of Pennsylvania cannot in good conscience endorse the barbarism of other states seemingly stuck in the Dark Ages.

Fire and Ice, you will be missed.

Oh, yeah, also, one of our members is getting married so we weren t going to be able to make it anyway... but that s not the point.

You'd know all about futility and disappointment living in PA. Considering that Philly was named worst sports city in America by the Sporting News for 2006. Considering how bad the Eagles, Phillies (nice wife beating pitcher you got there with Brett Myers), Sixers (another nice wife beater AI had been in the past), and Flyers have been for the last 10 years I can see how you'd take a swipe at us. We can smell our own kind....

World Championships since 2000
Boston-4
Philly/Pittsburgh-1

Advantage Beantown. Very Happy

If you want to go back and do the 1900's we may have you beat with the Celtics 16 Championships alone....

Advantage Beantown. Very Happy

Your damn right we're full of hate up here in Boston. Only way we can survive 40 years of Ted Kennedy! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Consider that it took Terry Francona to bring the Red Sox to the promised land. (Where Francona learned his champion-level skills? You guessed it...with the Phillies! Smile )

BTW...what kind of crazy math are you using to count 4 Championships since 2000?

EDIT: Oh I get it now...I guess you're counting the Patriots. Geez... Rolling Eyes
And BTW...who has won one most recently? Go Steelers!

Does any body else even believe that basketball, baseball and that peculiar Outdoor Life Channel reality show called the NHL actually exist anymore?

We ll stick to football, where the Pats do have the edge. But it still doesn t make up for the Kennedys. God, I can t get enough of seeing them die off.

And all I m saying is that Boston is clearly a hotbed of mindless racist vitriol... I mean what did the Mooninites ever do to you? Save shut down your entire city for a day due to a couple of paranoid morons.

Bampf,

I'll say this as a guy who is VERY plugged into Boston sports and National sports (I listen to a TON of Sports talk radio every days, all day at work) scene I will say that baseball is gaining more steam then you think and so is the nba, thanks to fantasy sports. Hockey on the other hand is on the verge of BIG problems. Sticking to football as you want to I will say that the Patriots have been the best team in the league since 2000. Year in and year out they make the playoffs and win. As a guy in Massachusetts who votes for anyone BUT a Kennedy I share your sentiment that Teddy is the only one no one cared enough about to kill. The Mooninites made this mistake-

They were put under bridges with wires and batteries hanging out in plain sight all over the city that had two planes hijacked from our airport that were rammed into two big buildings on 9/11. Boston has bascially a "zero tolerence" edict in place now and forever. Better safe then sorry. You want an ommlette you need to break a few eggs. Err paid the price.

Whoa.

The whole bomb scare thing is perfectly good fodder for comedians, but the city's response was quite reasonable given all the circumstances. They were not paranoid morons. Most of the actual details aren't getting the publicity that all the jokes are getting.

Yes, Boston is the only city that treated this like a bomb scare. This is also the only city where they put them up on beams under bridges, and major highway bridges at that. In all the other cities, they were put on vacant buildings and/or or entertainment type businesses.

The police rapidly identified that these were not actual bombs when they were dealing with the first one. Then, in an unrelated incident, they found what appeared to be a pipe bomb at New England Medical Center. Additionally, there were other unrelated security scares happening in New York and DC that same day.

They then got called away from NEMC as calls of more of the devices under bridges were being called in.

They absolutely had to treat this as though somewhere there could be a real bomb, and that at the very least someone might be planting lots of diversions just to tie up traffic, and everyone in the bomb squad, before setting the real one off.

Reporting here all through that afternoon was that they were responding to more and more calls of finding these things under bridges, that most likely they were not dangerous, and that the roads had to be shut while they dealt with each one. Quite a sane response.

I phoned Roxanne who works in downtown Boston and told her that they were finding fake bombs all over the city. It was unlikely any of them were real, but if there was a real one, I thought the odds were that it would be set to go off at rush-hour, so she might consider coming home early if she could. At the very least, if they kept finding more of these things, traffic and trains would be completely snarled and it would be better to leave the city while she could.

As it was, she had been delayed getting in to work that morning, because she was on the subway line where the train driver had spotted the thing under a bridge on I-93 that crosses over the Orange Line right at Sullivan Square Station. Unknown thing with batteries under highway bridge, above train station and large transit bus terminal -- halting the trains and bussing people out was a very good call.

Any small electronic thing with a battery pack strapped onto it could in fact be the timer/detonator for a bomb. Really. Even if it looks like a Litebrite. Even if it has a cute cartoon figure on it. Even if the cute cartoon is flipping the bird. Even if it appears to be an ad for a commercial product. I wouldn't put any money on Al Qaida coming up with this scheme, but they're not the only loonies in the world. We have plenty of home grown loonies, even ones who stay up watching midnight cartoons.

The next time we find anything with battery packs strapped under bridges, I hope the police take it just as seriously.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled Blood Bowl..... Who's going to bring an Ogre team to the Brouhaha with Mooninites for Snotlings? We Beantowners will have a grand time stomping them Very Happy

Cheers,
Maureen

Yeah, and the nazis had a litany of excuses to justify their unfounded hatreds as well, but all I see is a very clear pre-existing deep seated distaste for any non-terrestrial, two-dimensional, pixelated life forms.

That might be the funniest thing I've heard or read all month. Thanks for making me laugh out loud at work! Now I'm done hijacking the thread back to Brouhaha talk. Is there a date set yet? I wasn't able to make my tourney debut last year in Boston as I was getting married very close to the date. But I want to this year!

My heartfelt thanks to GW-Harvard Square for being a home for us for these last four years. They have selflessly let us invade The Dungeon at GW-Harvard Square each and every year without recompense!

I sincerely hope all the GW staff lands on their feet at their new locations. Without you guys, this event would not have been possible, and I am indebted to you all. THANK YOU!

Beantown Brouhaha IV is in the history books. We missed our friends from afar, but the Beantown locals showed up in force and a blast was had by all. Two new coaches joined the swelling ranks of NAF. Welcome! Very Happy

The Hand of Roze-El was taken by none other than SkinkFury and his pesky skinks. The tournament results have been entered and the "button" appears to have already been pushed. More to follow.
