North America - The Challenge of Q'ermitt '08 - April 19th and 20th 2008

Post subject: The Challenge of Q'ermitt '08 - April 19th and 20th 2008
A little bit of planning ahead, eh? Wink

I have my schedule laid out for me for the next while, and so looking ahead, this has to be the weekend of this tournament this coming year.

This year the tournament will be held in the basement of my new home, which means that I will not have to worry about finding a space, overhead cost of the room. etc. Which means that I can focus on other things like prizes, etc.

On that note, I am considering having a special mini made by Impact! miniatures for the tourney - (just toying with the idea) please visit the Hosting Tournaments section to post your opinion (if you have one).

Rules to follow soon, but pretty much it will be the same team creation and rules as last year (that part seemed to work okay).

Hope to see you out there!

Please see full rules at the tournament website follow the link in my sig

The following are the rules for the team creation and skill advancement at the tournament:

Team Creation:
Teams will be created at TV125
Inducements may be bought for their regular cost as permanent parts of the team.
Star players MAY be bought! (Q`ermitt wants to see the best of the best after all)
Halflings may hire the Master Chef at a cost of 50,000 gp
Goblin teams may buy bribes at a cost of 50,000 gp
Wizards may not be bought, Q'ermitt does not want any rivals present!
Special play cards may not be bought

Star Players will be bough according to the Bidding War Rules - (see website for full rules -- or somewhere around pg 6 on this thread)

Costs of Skills During Team Creation:
Regular Skill - 20K
Doubles Skill - 30K
+MA/AV - 30K
+AG - 40K
+ST - 50K

*Any one player cannot have more than two skills or attribute increases given to them during the team creation (or one skill and one attribute increase).

Skill Advancement:
After each round the T.O. will roll a d6, the result of this roll will apply to ALL TEAMS. The d6 result will dictate what kinds of skills are available. To know, consult the chart below.

d6 roll of
1-2 - Regular skill
3-4 - Doubles Skill
5 - Players choice of either MA or AV
6 - Player's choice of either AG or ST

** Players may receive only one skill from the skill advancement phase regardless of how many they gained in the Team Creation.

Ah c'mon Dan, I know that you need to book in advance for your Brazillian waxing to be done but can you not reschedule with this much notice? I am sure there are many people who are desperate enough for a couple of bucks who will do it for you!

I'll do it for 10 bucks Dan. Doesn't include tip. Smile

I'll do my best to be there Craig. The advance notice helps with negotiating with the misses.

I really enjoyed last year's mayhem with all the special pitch rules. Are you going to update the kick-off tables to line them up with LRB5? I can help with that if you want. If you send me the kick-off tables electronically, I can edit them.

And if you want, I can update the tournament manager spread sheet for use at your Tourney. Let me know if you would like to use it, and I'll provide it to you .... for a small fee Smile Smile Smile

Speaking of planning ahead, you might be a bit rushed getting the mini made in time. You should talk to Galak ASAP if you wanna do it. They say 9months on the website from request to casting. Unless you get someone to sculpt a green for you......

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Re: The Challenge of Q
I spoke with Alex, the scultor in Ottawa today and he told me that he is more than happy to do up a green for me to have a tournament model. This means that Impact! can have the model for me in plenty of time for the tourney! Woo hoo!

The model is going to be a norse punk, which corresponds with the kick off table result "Trial of Manhood" on the norse pitch. This is the one where the young norseman who feels he has something to prove, comes onto the pitch to harass the Blood Bowl players. In a pinch I am sure it could find his way onto a norse team (particularly as a journyman) or as Rod pointed out he could also make an interesting juve for a Necromunda gang!

Alex said he would forward me his concept sketches shortly, and I will post those when I get them.
Clan_Skaven - Nov 28, 2007 - 10:02 PM
Post subject:
I'd do sketches too but have no scanner I could take a picture of it with my digital camera then post it if you'd like.

Thanks for the offer, but Alex said that he is going to have the whole thing done in about a week (which just boggles my mind), so I think it's all taken care of.

The first TD scored wins the entire tournement?

Geez...things have really progressed since I have been there. Laughing

EDIT: For those who don't know, the 1st TD scored wins the game and advances you to the next round. I jokingly suggested that the coach that scored 1st TD in the entire tourney be declared the Stunty Champ.
(Clear enough Roderick? Smile )

EDIT2: Can I sing "Eye of The Tiger" at karaoke?
Spazzfist - Dec 17, 2007 - 06:34 AM
Post subject:
So it seems that there is still interest in the mini-tourney. How many people (who plan on attending) would be interested in doing the Stunty Cup? If people really want to do it, then I will oblige, because as I said, I was thinking about checking out the night life of Streetsville this year. But as the tourney will be at my house, there is no worries about being late, and there will be beer, Guitar Hero, beer, television, beer and all kinds of other things (including beer) to do for people who are not part of the Stunty Cup.

So speak up if you wanted in on this!

Spazz

EDIT - KL, you can sing "Eye of the Tiger" if I am allowed to sing We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister Razz

I'm in for the Stunty Cup. But if people want to do something else, I'm OK with that as well. After a few beers, I'm sure I can tolerate listening to you guys sing. Wink

only 8 people can play in the stunty cup (unless we go CRAZY and add an extra round of games) so there will be plenty of folks keen for other pursuits. I for one don't plan on playing the stunty, I'm happy just to watch and pass comment Smile Laughing

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Due to sca hiccup in the schedule with my ex, I have two options for the Q'ermitt:

1) I leave the date where it is, and just don't provoke her to be a bitch, so that I can have that date.

2) Move it back one week, making it on the 19th and 20th of April.

I kind of like the second option, as it means that we will also be able to order in the UFC fights that night, and that will be the nigth that George St. Pierre is going up against Matt Serra! That means we will have: the Q'ermitt tournament; Stunty Cup; Guitar Hero; UFC. Sounds like a pretty sweet weekend to me! Not to mention that we have a foozball table and air hockey in the basement as well.

My only concern is that I do not want to screw anyone over who cannot make it on that weekend, and has already had to have planned for the 26th, 27th. I know that Taxal said that he can come for the w9th if I move it then, so I am going to hold him to that! (Maybe he can bring down some more of the Montreal crew- hint hint).

So in an nutshell, my preference is to make the Q'ermitt on the 19th and 20th of April. Any objections?

So after discussing it with the Ottawa crowd this past weekend, it seems that the majority consensus is that the 19th and 20th is the better time, so that is officially the time now, and is set in stone. Make your plans and book accordingly.

Please check the first page and seeif I have included you in the list of those who have told me they are comng. The numbers of people that have indicated to me that they are planning on coming out are up to about 16 now, and if it gets much higher, then I am going to look at renting a hall nearby for the event, as oppose to having it in my basement.

I am planning on making some cosmetic changes to the tourney (e.g. trophies) and look forward to having the biggest and best Q'ermitt tourney to date!

Look forward to seeing you all there,

Important Notice Regarding Team Creation and Star Players

One of the things that I have always envisioned for the Q'ermitt tournament, is that this is supposed to be the best of the teams in the world of all different races competing. Q'ermitt wants to see the best of the best, and yet the best players in Blood Bowl (the Star Players) have been noticably absent.

I am going to try out a system which, if it works will be a regular thing in the Q'ermitt tournaments. Under this system, each of the stars could be bought by one team, and one team only. This shows that the Star Player was always on your team, and has developed up from a green rookie into the superstar that they are today. This includes all Star Players, including all those with Secret Weapons.

Important to note:
Seeing as the Star Player has been with this team for a while, and are not a free agent, then they will not have the Loner trait.

It will of course, happen that there will be more than one team that will want a given Star Player, as such coaches who wish to purchase one or more Stars (to a maximum of two) they should be prepared for the Bidding War

Bidding War
* Team creation will now be at 125K
* Stars will have a list price which people may set aside money for them, but will not be guaranteed that player
* At the beginning of the tourney, any coaches who wish to buy a Star Player draw a number to see who selects first. The coach who selects first, names the first player they wish to purchase. If no one else contests, then they may purchase the player at the set price. If another coach contests, then the contesting coach may offer a higher price (in increments of 10,000 g.p.). If there is more than one coach contesting, then the bids go in order of their picks. The Star Player must be added to the roster of the coach who bids the highest.
* If it happens that a coach does not get the Star(s) that they allocated money for, then any leftover money may be used for player purchases, skills, etc.

I will be making a list of all Star Players and their initial list costs. Foir those who want to start planning a team around that, then figure abut 75% of the cost that is currently listed for those players.

Coaches who plan on using a Star Player should also have the model available for use, but should this become a regular thing, then I will paint a model for each of them to avoid having coaches bringing models unecessarily (i.e. they do not win the bid).

I think this should be fun! There are some awesome players out there begging to be used! Some can be made by purchasing the skills, but some cannot! I mean, how much would you pay for a big guy who does not go stupid? Or an elf with Hypnotic Gaze? Let's find out! Smile

Oops! forgot to mention that the Star Player would take up a positional spot according to what they are - so sorry Dan, if you take Ramtut, then you can only have three other mummies. In some cases this will not be so clear (e.g. Count Luthor) but I will include on the list with their prices, which position they would occupy on the team.

Definately a well thought out idea, I'm just curious on how it will; go.....

Your tourney is a great tourney without it, & I do see one notable problem.

Lets say a coach has it in his heart to have STAR PLAYER(S) on his team & does not aquire them. If they now have to spend the put aside cash on thier team, it could buy up time & delay the start of the tourney.....(some people take a very long thought process to create a team..........)

I'm just bringing up something to think about.

I think this is a very interesting idea, but I also think it is not needed , due to the fact that the C of Q is already a great tourney on its own & IMO does not need anything else.

To me this idea should be play tested at a wekkend (like a TBBF weekend) to see if it does eat up too much unnessisary time, or if it is a fair system with balance. To impliment it right into a current successfull tourney without experimintation, could do more harm than good. Then on the other hand it could be a huge successs!

All I'm saying is put aside a weekend before the C of Q to set up a mock tourney for a test.

Craig I know you want to provide the best that you can for everyone, (any tourney organisor does), but as i have said to you before theres nothing missing from the C of Q, it is IMO already without flaw.... (I do not know why every year you want to try & change it or add to it....). I'm not trying to pick on you or center you out, just trying to tell you that if its not broken , then stop trying to fix it!.... Wink

The only changes I think that the C of Q would ever need is if at your creative input another new board was added...

Ok ramble over, just one guys opinion......

... and I knew that that one was coming!

I know you think I should stop tinkering, but the Star players are something that I really do want to see more of in the tourney. This is one way to make it more likely.

If people take 15 minutes after the final pick, then I will impose the following:
Step 1 - Buy as many (0-16) players as their remaing money will allow
Step 2 - Whatever is left over will be used to purchase Fan Factor, Coaches and Cheerleaders.

This will be strictly enforced to ensure that the rest of the tourney is not delayed.

Also, as an afterthought here, I will start the Bidding War on time which means if you are showing up late, then you miss the chance to bid for the Star you want! Show up ion time people!

One last addendum to the Bidding War

Should a coach not receive the Star Player that they want, then they may bid for other players when their turn would come around again. (E.g. The coach with the first pick is outbid for theStar they want, after all the other coaches have bid, then they may bid on an available player when all other coaches have had their turn).

LOVE starting the bidding war on time and making late comers miss out on some players!!!

if a coach misses out on the star he bids for he can still counter bid on another star that someone else bids for so she doesn't have to miss out on a star.

The time factor could be an issue, one way around it is to make coaches bring a roster with no stars on it that they will use if they are unsuccessful.

You could set a post bidding war timelimit of 10 minutes before you start the first game and people would have to pre plan.

Rod. Balance is always off slightly at tournaments, part of the trick is to make it unbalanced in your favour to help you win Very Happy

When people are creating teams for this, remember that the only way that you are going to get more than two skills/increases on one player is if he is a named Satr Player. Any players purchased during team creation that you then add skills two may only have a maximum of two stat increases, skills, or combination of the two.

Just making it clear so there is no confusion.

Here is a good question (or maybe a stupid one . . .):

Can a team bid on a Star Player that they cannot take with his team? This may seem idiotic but think about this: you got outbid on the player you wanted so to screw over someone else bid on one of their wanted players. I doubt this may happen BUT as a 'bottom-feeder' player I know since I have little chance of winning so why not screw one of the top guys just for sh*ts-and-giggles?

What is your rulling O' supreme one? :p

Now you, Eric, I have been ignoring! Razz

To answer your question, you may not bid ona player who cannot be on your team. The bidding war is meant to be quick, so that we can get onto the games. I do not want to waste time with people out for sh*ts and giggles trying to screw someone over in the bidding war! I know you like to get your jollies where you can, but in this case it's a no go.

On another note, I have been working hard on getting stuff together for some really sweet trophies (what can I say, I was inspired by the CCKO!) and generally getting my sh*t together for this one! Big thanks to Cramy for putting together an excel program to figure out all the rankings, match-ups etc. He is even making it so that it tells players what boards they will play on (so that you never play on the same one twice)! And of course a big thanks to Eric, who we should buy a top hat and monocle, as he has a monopoly on the all the BB websites for Ontario!

I am getting really excited about this one, and gearing up for the best Q'ermitt ever!

Believe me I know! I am very reluctant to do it anywhere else, as that will then involve more cost and a risk of losing more money again (not that running a tournament is a profit-driven endeavour). But I also liked the idea of the creature comforts of home and the ease of being able to run things and not have to transport, etc.

I have to measure out the basement and then look for a place where I can rent tables. Once I have some figures of how many people I can reasonably fit, then I will know for sure what my max number is.

But even once I have all that fiugured out I would ask for people to pre-pay if it looks like my numbers are over, and only once I had a solid financial committment from the majority, would I go ahead with booking the alterrnative space. If I get my max and still have people wanting to sign up on the day (assuming it is at my home), I might have to turn them away...

May sound harsh, but when you are trying to break even on running a tourney, you can't go on people's word that they will be showing up.

What are you talking about? Jordell Freshbreeze is a star wardancer, which is the wood elf equivalent of a blitzer He has all the skills of a wardancer, and to further my point, he lacks the basic catch skill that a catcher would have (he has diving catch only).

Nice try though. Wink

Okay, having done some meaurements and planning, I figure that I should be able to fit 24-28 people in my basment without too much difficulty.

Currently we have 22 people saying that they are coming, but more are popping up everyday! Smile

However, I know that at any tournament I have been to that the number of people who say they are coming and those who actually do come, are two very different numbers!

So while I feel that the home is going to be sufficient, I am looking at alternate locations like the local Legion.

For those people who pay in advance your name will be entered into a draw for some sweet door prizes. If anyone has suggestions for what they would think would make suitable incentive prizes, I am open for suggestions. I was thinking about ordering a couple of carrying cases from Impact! for this purpose, unless people can think of something they would prefer. Payment will help me to get a sense of who is committed to coming to let me know ehether I need to commit to the alternate location.

Just want to clarify a couple of points here:

1) There are going to be three door prizes for people who pay early. The door prize is going to consist of a carrying case AND a set of 75 magnets.

2) As I will not be incurring venue costs I am providing lunches for the two days. I can get pizza, or I have also talked to Mr. Sub about catering and they sound very reasonable. Maybe we can do one of each on the the two days. We can talk more about that one on the day.

Much against my usual shy and reserved nature, I am going to encourage coaches to start talking some smack as we approach the one month to go mark for the tourney!

To help to motivate you I am going to be offering the Best Smack Talk Award at this year's tourney. The judgement on this will be completely subjective on my own part, but will be based on the following criterion:

1) Creativity - "I'm gonna win" is not going to cut it. Looking for some way of announcing your imminent victory in such a way that shows some effort has been made. (And let's face it Eric, as much as we still use them, the "Mom" jokes are getting pretty stale!)

2) Humourous - The tournament is meant to be fun, not a reason to start fist-fights! While you may single out a coach (or two.... or twenty) there should not be anything which crosses the line between good humoured fun, and just plain offensive.

3) Frequency - Get the last word in - always! If you are the best, then you need to let people know it! The more humourous and creative comments you have out there, the more you tip the scales in your favour!

That is loosely the idea, it may evolve as time goes on, but thought it might be fun to try out this one.

Not that there is a space for a photo of the team to go at the top of the canvas.

Some people say that these are due to a lot of luck and dice, but what the heck - more trophies!

Ok on the 1st page I see 26 but I think it should be 28 Adam Jones from Ottawa & Andrew Stubbs from Niagara

Now if thats the case 28 people = 14 matches per round, Craig I know you have 12 custom boards + the Ottawa boys Chaos Pitch makes 13.

I have the rules to my Skave Clan Spire? (The one that has crazey inventions) or Necromunda Pitch, reguardless of the name same rules.

Would everyone want just a standard normal Pitch or a custom Pitch played on a standard board (mine is not built)

Heres the lrules.....

Actual Board under constuction.....

Weather

2 Pitch Black, Only Quick Passes may be attempted.

3-4 High Powered Spot Lights, Very Bright Lights flash on from a random board edge, (roll a D8, 1-2 north, 3-4 east, 5-6 south, 7-8 west) Any Passes towards that board edge are at a -1

5-9 Normal

10-11 Large High Powered Exhaust Fans, Very powerfull Exhaust Fans Blow Air from a Random Board Edge (Roll D8 (same as High Powered Lights Roll)) Any kicks, Throw Ins or Inacurate passes will scatter an extra D6 away from that board edge.

12 Burst Drain Pipes, Very High above the pitch, a partial Dome collapse has burst pipes containing a slimey substance & so the entire pitch is covered in it, all attempts to Pass, Catch, or Intercept are at a -1 & players fall on a 1 or 2 on GFI's

The Kick Off Table

2 Dome Collapse , the dome above both dugouts has collapsed, all plyers in the reserves & KO'd box more one box towards the CAS box on a 1-2 (Roll each model separately)

3 Riot

4 Perfect Defence

5 High Kick

6 Cheering Underhive

7Changing Weather

8 Brilliant Coaching

9 Quick Snap

10 Blitz

11 Throw a Rock

12 Living Bio Organism Nutriant Reanimating Sludge! Something is alive under both teams Dugouts & this living Ooze oozes out from the CAS box towards the KO'd Box. All players in the CAS & KO'd box move one Box Towards the Reserves Box on a D6 roll of a 1-2 ( roll separately for each player)

BOARD HAZARDS The Underhive is a very dangerous place to play, using the same rules for placing the tombstones on the graveyard pitch, each coach in turn places each places 4 HAZARD tiles on the pitch.

Placers may not set up for a drive on a Hazard square.

If Any player enters any square with a hazard tile for any reason (voluntarily or pushed or knocked into one) the player in that square immidiately rolls a D6 (even before armour rolls or ball scatter rolls)

1 False Hazard remove Tile theres nothing there.
2 Sludge Pool, Very Thick Mucky almost Glue like liquid now fills this square, any player knocked down in this square needs not have an armour roll made against him as his fall was broken by the goo. However, getting free is a different story , any player wishing to leave this square has to make a straight STR roll to free himself. (so a 3 STR player would break free on a 4+ roll) add plus one for every player adjacent to him & -1 for every opponent adjacent to him. (a 1 always fails & a 6 always succeeds despite modifiers.) Failing to free oneself does not cause or turnover) Players choosing to run Through a Sludge Pool must make the STR roll (if failed his move ends in that square & he may try to free himself next turn. While standing in the Pool a player has no tackle Zone, but he also can not recieve any Blocks (players in a pool automatically drops the ball as if they have the no hands skill)
3Pit Trap, A player falls into a Pit & the door spings shut above him , roll his armour as normal if he is unhurt place him in the reserves box . (He is actually trapped under the Pitch till the next Drive starts & until then this suare is treated as a normal square. Once the next drive starts & all trapped plyers are freed, the traps are reset automatically awaiting its next player. (If the player was holding the ball it will scatter one square)
4Falling Debri, A large clump of scrap metal, or pipe or boulder or whatever has fallen to this square. This square is now unenterable & the obstical is a now permanent part of the pitch. Also the poor sap scampers just out of the way avoiding instant death D8 to that square if occupied use the push back rules (stand firm can not stop this push), but still has an Armour roll made against him with a +1 to the Armour Roll (not injury).
5It came from Below. A giant hand, Blob, Tentacle Venus Man-Trap or whatever Alien/Mutant Creature has made an appearance occupies this square. This counts as a STR 4 Tentacle with Stand Firm. A Knock Down result against it will have it retreat, untill the the start of the next drive where in reapears. A Player knocked down onto a brand new tentical tile will not have an armour roll made against him , because the thing caught him & he goes back to his original square.
6 Magnet Crane , A Huge Magnet potentially picks up the player & tosses him!
If a player ends up in a Magnet Crane square his Opponent rolls 2D6 & if the roll is lower than that modles AR, than the modle is tossed D6 squares in a random direction (if landing in an occupied square both players are knocked over , landing player in other players square other player knocked down & pushed back. & roll for Armour on both players.) (If landing in unocupied square player may make a straight AG roll to land (no negative moddifiers to tackle zones on landing as players are more concerned with not being landed on.) If the player successfully lands & he was moving, he may continue to move any unused MA, if he fails, roll for Armour. (If holding the Ball the player will still have it asong as he lands on his feet) . I a player is knocked Down on a Magnit Crane's square & not picked up roll for Armour as normal. Players in a Magnet Square at the start of thier turn will have a Magnet roll made against them as soon as any sttempts to move or block is made, staying still will not set it off. (rolling over from stunned to prone will not as well, but Standing up will cause a magnet roll to be made) Stunty Players are tossed 2D6 squares. (Players tossed into crowd are beated up just like a crowd push.)

THE REF

The Ref is replaced with a Chainsword carrying Redemtionist! No Underhive Scum watching the game would dare "Get the Ref!" But BloodBowl Players being sent Off for any reason by the Ref may "Get the Ref!" Personally!
If you choose to get the Ref, with the ejected player roll a single Block Die ....
Pow Ref is Killed & Player remains on pitch as if no call was made & there is no ref for remainder of Half.
Pushback/Pow Ref is Killed & Player remains on Pitch, but new Ref is replaced right away.
Pushback Nothing changes, Player is still sent off.
Both Down Player is ejected & the next Foul that his team is caught with (including ejected secreat Weapons) One random player is also attacked by ref as if he was hit with a chainsaw.
Skull Player Ejected & One other random player from his team is imediatly attacked by the Ref as if hit by a Chainsaw.

There you go guys......

Any thoughts?

Well if you got off yer duff and painted (and converted) another team you could send them to be played as I did with Los Luchadores for the Deathbowl - then you might get the Best Team award!

And nothing says that you have to be attending the tourney to talk the best smack! Wink

Here are a couiple of pics of the dice I am ordering for this year. By sheer coincidence the dice I ordered for the first two years were fire and water, and so I felt it only fitting to go with the theme of the elements. So behold

Air Dice!

They are a translucent blue, with some metallic flecks in them - the one that I felt were the most suited that they had available for customization.

Hopefully next year they will have some colour of brown that will be customizable, and then the four sets of dice will be complete (and then I will probably stop doing the dice thing then). Who knows maybe complete sets of elemental Q'ermitt may be worth big bucks on ebay some day!

You guys can fight over the best team award. Isn't that the award that people go for when they know that they can't win? While you are playing with your paint brushes, the Gargaroth Spoilers are putting strategies together to squash any opposition. Especially oppostion with Star Players. I can't wait to have a Spoiler break Morg's nose while running-in the winning touchdown. Those overweight Stars won't be a match for the next Q'ermitt champions.

Dude, that is freakin' hilarious! (Now only if you could learn to spell...) Wink

Top marks there for that one, too funny!

I especially like the side articles which I scanned, the best was the one just to the left of your article which features a "negro workman" who is trapped in a whole which "resembled a giant cake that had been broken into bits by a family of hungry urchins"!

Anyone going to step up to that Smack? Gonna be hard to beat!

BTW, I would just like to point out that those side articles are real and date from the late 1800' and early 1900's. So the language may not be the most PC but that is history for you.

I am currently sitting at 29 people having said that they are coming out for the tourney. Now if history has taught me anything it has taught me that the number of people that say that they are coming out and the number that actually show up are very different.

But more people keep coming out of the woodwork (which is great, don't get me wrong!) But I only have 30 sets of dice and 30 Uulriks to go out. So, in case it should happen that we do have more than thirty people at the tourney, the dice and model will go to those who pre-paid, and the rest will have to be figured out in some reasonable manner (lottery?)

Some rules questions.....

If you roll a 6 so everyone gets a +1 STR or +1 AG, can a person forfit it to chose a normal or double skill?

Or a more realistic situation, if a 3 or 4 was rolled (double) can that be decreased to a single choice (1 or 2)

Example a double roll was made after game one & lets say a person had given his Ulfwerner +1 STR & Mighty Blow (he really needs Block) but with the double rolled & Block being a normal upgrade for him can he still take Block?

Also use that same situation for a 5 (+1 MA, or +1 AV) or a 6 (+1 STR or +1 AG)

This may be a stupid question but I figured maybe clarification (sp*?) was needed.

You could always choose to downgrade if you wish, the only thing though would be that you could only downgrade to a normal skill instead of an attribute increase.

EDIT -To be more clear
6 = +AG/ST ( or normal skill)
5 = +MA/AV (or normal skill)
3-4 = Doubles (or normal skill)
1-2 = Normal skill

Announcement:

This year there will be one more aware being presented, that being the Sandgroper/Q'ermitt award. Raider888 also runs a tournament using custom pitches down in Australia, and we have agreed upon doing a trophy which acknowledges the other tournament and the effort it takes to make a custom pitch.

Check out the pics of Raider888's trophy - it shows the sand on one side for Australia, and the other side has snow for Canada. Pretty wild, eh?

To this end, all people are welcome to bring any of their custom pitches to the Q'ermitt (provided I have seen the rules of course). I know this is short notice, but I was not sure whether I was going to have time to do that one up - now I know I should be alright. So there will be a similar trophy made for this year's tourney (which will have the winner's name added to it).

I know that Ben said he will bring one of his Canadian Open board and I will try to persuade Glenn to bring his Khorne Field, anyone else going to bring something?

Team Niagara is going to call you all out at the C o Q IV !!!

To Team Ottawa & team Brampton/Toronto area mix..... Pick your 5 man team, make it your 5 best mind you (guess that mean's Eric is not chosen Laughing )

Team Niagara will dominate all other 5 man teams.

Team Niagara Roster.

Rob Pharand Rob has been a steady stalwart in the tourney scene with many victories against key high ranking players. He has been a contender for winning the championship on many tourneys in the past. It is only a matter of time before he walks away with a championship!

Joe Michaud Joe has played his Orcs in every tourney & has been in the top 5 in two Canadian Opens. He has found a new life in Norse & his team is looking to bring Cold Vengance to all the he opposes!

Bryan Carlaw Bryan is making his return to Bloodbowl after a short break and no time is better than the C o Q IV for him to Stomp a hole in his opponents with one of his Bull Centaurs. Brian is also a marvle with the brush & he has on more than one occasion scored the easy TD while his opponent was distracted be his painted talents.

Jesse Geier Jesse is new to BloodBowl but don't let that fool you. He has learned faster than most & has taken a fancy to the speed & sly cunning of Skaven. This will be his tourney debut & I look foward to him beating down all who feel his lack of tourney experance will make him an easy opponent. It will be quite a sight as his Gutter Runners score TD after TD & the "Seasoned Vetran" just sits in disbelive as the the "New Comer" has just shut him out!!!!

Rod Davidson The Captain of Team Niagara, will look for his team to represent Niagara & bring home many trophys home from the C o Q IV. Rod will be bringing his Orcs & will look to pound his oppents down & possibly win yet again another most Casualties Award (2 years in a row Death Bowl Casualty Champion) . On a side note he looks forward to 3-Peat & win the Stunty Cup for the 3rd year in a row, and if thats not enough well there is one more detail to remember.......
2006 SPIKE CHAMPION!!!!

So to all other teams out there select your best 5! Ottawa, Brampton/Toronto area or whoever, we will dominate & walk away as the best team at the 2008 C o Q!!!!!

You can also take strays not chosen from the Toronto/Brampton players (see Eric there's some hope for you to get on a team)

Strays , Montreal , Montreal + Strays from other areas = Mongrils or like that BloodBowl team the Mongril Horde

Hey Hey now theres no Hijack here, for one Pete's concept calls for 2 teams I'm suggesting as many teams as possible. Plus what I'm doing is strictly for fun (like a side bet if you will) nothing really to do with the actual tourney. Where as Pete's "Team format" is incorpirated right into the rules of the tourney.

Ben is going to bringing one of the special Canadian Open boards to the Q'ermitt. This board uses a special weather table to represent our beautiful Canadian climate:

WEATHER TABLE
2D6 Result
2 Bitter Cold: It???s so cold that some players have got Frost Bite! Roll a D6 for each player on the pitch at the end of a drive. On a roll of 1 the player has been stricken with frost bite and may not be set up for the next kick-off.

3 Very Sunny:
Cold, but the blinding sunshine causes a -1 modifier on all passing rolls

4 and 10 Icy Conditions: It???s exceptionally icy on the pitch causing extreme slippery conditions. To reflect this, all players that move more then 2 squares including a Blitz make a roll, on a roll of 1 the player moves an additional square in the same direction ignoring any tackle zones if the player so happens to pass through one. If a player moves into an occupied square then treat it as a push result on the block dice. In addition, the icy conditions may also result in a player sliding out of bounds or into the end zone for the winning TD!

5 - 9 Nice: Cold but otherwise decent Blood Bowl weather.

11 Ice Rain:
It???s raining, making the ball slippery and difficult to hold. A -1 modifier applies to all catch, intercept, or pick up rolls.

12 Blizzard: It???s cold and snowing! The horrible conditions means that any player attempting to move an extra square (GFI) will slip and be knocked down on a roll of 1-2. In addition, only quick and short passes can be attempted.

These will be the only special rules for this pitch.

Only a few more days boys!

A few final things to work out:

1) If anyone has not registered on the official website, could you please do so ASAP? I am trying to reduce my workload on the day, and to that end would like to get as many coaches names with team races and team names as possible onto the Excel file before the day (especially in case I do end up being the odd man out)

2) If people could e-mail me their team rosters before the day, that will give me a chance to look them over, again, trying to reduce the workload before the tourney begins. (craigtw2001@yahoo.ca)

3) As I am ordering lunch on the two days I would like to know if anyone has any dietary restrictions/allergies. Otherwise you will have to eat whatever I gives ya.

All help to this end would be greatly appreciated!

Ok from Niagara here goes confirmed....

Rod=Orc
Jesse=Skaven
Joe=Norse
Rob=A complete cheese A$$ (He waits to see what everyone else brings then decides.) Probably Dwarf, but he will let you know his final cheesey A$$ choice just befofre kickoff , just after he calculates the ratio of bashy vs dodgey teams out there....

I say make Rob register 1st!

Anyone 2nd my vote?

Bryan= A probably No, but if he does go either Chaos Dwarf, Wood Elf or Goglin

Well you can tell the cheese a$$ that there is a healthy mix of everything. At last count there were a couple of norse, two or three dwarves, two skaven a few lizards, a couple of orc teams and a few of the elf variety. He would be best to just play what he wants to play and not worry about it - there is not a strong leaning in one direction from what I can see.

Rules dilema (at least in my opinion) The Dwarf Pitch has astrogranite (+1 to AV rolls) .

I hope you do not have it set to combine with the Mighty Blow Skill.....

I mean if needed a +2 to the AV roll (a tad overpowered if you ask me) I'm not saying Mighty Blow can not be used on the Dwarf Pitch , it can but only on injury roll if AV is broken.

Not trying to be a negative nanny, I have play tested it in games, & it is a huge disadvantage to low armoured teams to allow the Astroganite combining with MB on the same roll. (& then if the guy has claw, now he only needs to roll a 6 to penatrate? Shocked )

I'm saying please do not allow it to combine with MB on the AV roll

I suggest, Astrogranite +1 to all AV rolls & if they have MB as well it can only be used on INJ. Rolls.

I think most will agree with this, but alas it is your tourney, & your decision, if it is in favour to aloow a posible +2 to AV rolls , then I really feel bad for all those Elfy & Skaven teams..... Crying or Very sad

Thanks for bringing that up Rod, I have not had a lot of opportunity to playtest it, although I did play one game with my high elves against Dan's Khemri - so there was no lack of Mighty Blow against me! I did not fare too badly, but I could see how the dice could really hose someone.

We will bring this one up for discussion before the tourney begins - rather than do this on the forum where some people do not read regularly (if at all) But for the record, I know that Glenn had the same concern (which I am sure had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he is bringing norse!) Razz

EDIT - if there would be any change then I would like to suggest that we do go the route that Rod has mentioned and allow injury at the very least. I would not want people who have Mighty Blow to be penalized for playing on this pitch.

Yeah, the +AV on armor roll for the Dwarf pitch sounds pretty harsh. A bit too harsh I would say. But I'll go with whatever the majority wants to do.

The LRB5 Secret Weapons Goblins all have Stunty. But as the Stunty Cup rosters are very different from what's in the LRB5 (even the Goblins SW's are different), then I think you can do whatever you want with them.

I've almost finished setting up in the basement, and got everything set for tomorrow. Remember, once the tourney is on, any illegal rosters discovered result in a yellow card, even if it was not intentional!

Also we have to see what the out of towners want to do tonight, but they are rolling in around 11, and if anyone wants to get together, maybe do the karaoke thang, then I am game for that!

For anyone who would like to pitch in for some BBQ, then we can discuss that tomorrow, but Monica has said that if people want to kick in a couple of bucks that she will grab some stuff so that we can make the dinner hour more smooth. I'm paying for lunch, but dinner is up to youz guyz!

Looking over the comment cards for the tourney (for those that did fill them out) I have compiled the following, the multiple shows the number of people who mentioned it:

Pros
Stunty Cup x2
location x 2
UFC
Bidding War
Food + Drink x 3
Custom Boards x 2
Monice x 2 (she thanks the one who called her "hot"!)
Pitch rules x 2

Cons
Crowded x 3
Lighting x 3
Timers (need to be used!) x 2
Ventilation
Star Players
less starting skills

Bidding War Advice
keep loner on the Stars

For using Star Players next year, 9 people said they would use a star, 5 said they wouldn't, and there was one maybe. So it sounds like we will try it again at least one more time next year.

There was a suggestion that there were more doubles than would normally be on a league team. The suggesiton being that there could maybe be a limit to the number of doubles that a team could take, and this may encourage more use of the Stars.

But there is a year to go untikl the next Q'ermitt, so a lot of time to discuss and figure out how this will go!

You could from the manufacturer or even a 3rd party supplier though the cost may be a little too much, another option would be to get a card reader.

I know many of you took these home with you ,a nd I hope that you enjoy them and continue to play with the special pitch rules in your own homes.

Eric really does deserve special recognition for his efforts - his over the top smack talking, the computer work, and probably most importantly - his ability to win spoon after spoon and still come back for more! Eric is a prince amongst the Blood Bowl community! Worship

Thank-you!

I'm quite interested in seeing the roster of Mr. Jones' winning Norse team. It might help me make my own team better.

What really made the difference for "Mr. Jones" was the combination of Mighty Blow and Piling On for the blitzers. Being able to re-roll the injury rolls was HUGE! Then they would Jump Up the next turn and be on their way.

EDIT - I will look for his roster at home and let you know what else he took

Two Blitzers with Piling On and Mighty Blow made the difference? Glen must have gotten really lucky with his rolls...

And no one was smart enough to foul those Blitzers every turn they were down?

It doesn't sound like many people were on the pitch to effectively foul. Smile

Also, do you foul back and risk getting caught...thereby giving him an even greater numerical advantage?

Some times the dice are hot and there is nothing you can do about it.

32 Casualties is pretty sick!

Looks like it a was a fun tourney, with an incredible turnout.

Oh I did! I fouled the crap right out of him in the first game of the tourney! By then end of the game he had about four or five guys left on the field. Unfortunately I had even less! But then again I was playing goblins (with the aid of Morg n' Thorg and Ripper), but anyone that Morg and Ripper did not take off the field were treated to goblin bootleather! (The three bribes I also had aided to this end)! But alas, it was not enough - a very close game though!

For the time I was able to watch Glen play, his positioning was excellent. Very few times was he forced to leave the blitzers exposed. Also with his Norse team on the attack (seems he plays good offence is best defence) you were forced to decide to commit forces to try and get a foul in... and leave much of the rest of your team exposed to attack.
He seemed more than willing to exchange block dice.. and was not in a hurry to move the ball, and go for blocks. A fast team that could put him in a hole early and force him to play ball seemed to be the best shot.. But hey.. Glen is a GOOD player.. its not just the team.

Not only that, but when you did foul it was hard to get more than +2 on the foul (even with stunties) because (as you mentioned) of his tight defensive formations. As the game went on, and I reduced the number of players on the field it was easier to get more guys in on the fouls, but by then, I had few guys left to foul!

It is not quantity, but rather quality that counts . . . . . not to mention incentive!!!

I touwl have been nice to have seen the showdowns in this one:

Joe vs. Glenn

England (Joe) vs. France (Laurent)

It did go over very well, and as any who have been to previous Q'ermitts have told me - the best one yet. I certainly lacked no incentive as the TO this year!

But one thing still surprises me...... Rod finished one spot ahead of Ben in the final rankings and has not said a word about it! What's up with that buddy? You're not going soft on us are you? Razz

Hey all, thanks again Craig like I said to you already, it was an awesome time besides the "manstench" lol. A couple things to go over...TALONS you can't talk, last time I checked you tied me on your HOME PITCH. That equates to a loss if you ask me, don't worry I'll make you my B#$&H next time...LOL. Rod if you don't find your camera cable you should be able to pick one up at a Best Buy, Future Shop, I lost mine and found an inexpensive replacement there. Hope you all can make it out to the next tourney so you can play second fiddle to my dominance. HAHAHA always good times guys take it easy

Probably - that is what I mean by "see what I can do from my end" as I know that I cannot do anything about the duplicated info.
