That way everbody else could have had a much more enjoyable tournament (I think) and we might also have cured some of these orc players from playing orc... Maybe

Just wondered if anyone had a problem with coaches fielding Human teams with Griff and Zug? Obviously the Varag = free reroll = star blitzer for buttons, with no linemen necessary is bad enough, but ... well, just wondering.
Not that i'm doing that, oh no. Because of the egality of Star Players i'm going to refrain from the Dark Elves and field the Chaos Dwarfs. My practice games were *so* poor with the DElves. Must have been the new paint scheme!
See you with the new dice

+8 Line..2RR and 2FF? I'd play against that happily. So I suspect would those playing Luthor/Undead.
Where'd I put those stomping boots? Expect a lot of DPs, and expect a lot of Griff hunting..that's gonna be one Dead Parrot.

I share the common sentiment though that this is a tournament for the Blood Bowl, and I'm going to aim to win. If Star Players help me do that, then I will use them, regardless of whether others think they are beardy etc.
I personally don't like them, but I recognise their strengths. I'd prefer the tourny to be without them, but as it stands they are simply a tool to help me win
McSnaga - Feb 18, 2003 - 07:09 AM

I concur with Redfang (sort of), and think that if a Star Player dies in the final of the BB, then he should be deemed dead. After all if the match is a part of history and a famous BB player dies in it, what do you do, re-write history ?
I know Star Players die all the time, but I would think the final of the BB would be a bit different.

I know what you mean - I think my post came over as "power player" too much. I'm in this for the fun of the game, and won't be distraught if I don't win, but I want to give myself the best shot possible!!

The idea of killing off a star player if he dies is interesting, but what about this alternative - creating a NEW one for the winning race?
Fair enough, some imagination will need to be used as a player can only get one skill max, but if, for example, my thrower throws an inch perfect long bomb while in 4 tackle zones having just knocked out 2 blitzers then it could be used to beef up his profile somewhat!
not that I expect my team to be in the final of course

He needs to re-think then..you can't start with less than 11 players.
Good point coachblackknife, the absence of Luthor on both sides slipped right by me, although I'm quite well aware of the rule and indeed have 'all Orc Varagless' contingency plans in place.

Geno, I'm waiting to see how close your line up is to Ant's.
Chaos...Nurgle themed...Borak...use of Leader on Big Guys...hmmmm.
I could take a pretty good stab at it...
I was gonna take Chaos for a while, then AndyH scuppered my devious Borak/Ripper/Thrud line-up.

DW: Didn't realise you couldn't have less than 11 in a starting team, is it in the rulebook?
My lineup might differ slightly to Ant's, no big guy for me. I'm currently testing:
1x Lord Borak
2x Chaos Warriors
8x Beastmen
2x Re-Rolls (3 with Borak)
2 Fan Factor
Skills in the order of:
1) Sure Hands (Beastman)
2) Guard (Warrior)
3) Strip Ball (Beastman)
4) Guard (Warrior)
5) Undecided
What's Ant got?
I could always take my converted Beast of Nurgle as an Ogre, but I don't know how to fit him in the team. Would be cool though
Also, if you're in Bugmans on the Friday I'll give you a game if you like?

I really don't know what Ant's taking..I expect it's under wraps and a case of wait and see..pretty much like my Orcs! (well somebody's gotta play secret squirrel, right?)
Drop a CW or something..squeeze in that Beast as an Ogre...don't forget you can use Leader on him...you know you want to!
As for Bugman's, we should be arriving early/mid afternoon. Doubt I'll have time to play though, lots of people to meet, dice etc to hand out, maybe do some NAF sign-ups, beer to drink etc.
And 6 games in 2 days is enough for me anyway...

I think I am taking:
3 Warriors
1 Troll (Beast of Nurgle)
6 Beastmen
Lord Borak

Decided on my Dwarf roster AGES ago. Exactly the same one that did well at T5 (2 Blitzers, 2 runners, 1 Slayer, 6 longbeards, Apoth, 2 rerolls, 4 fan factor.)
Played one test game, and I won. Intending to play a bit on FUMBBL tommorrow as I have the whole day off work, which might give me some "developed version" help.
I know plenty of Guard is on the menu development wise (prob. a blitzer and two LBs), with Block on one runner and pass or HMP (for a laugh) on the other.
Bring it on!

Just wondering if you could give me you 2gp's worth on my current line up for the BB2003.
Orcs
1 Blitzer
1 Ogre ( poss Big Orc CONVERSION )
4 Black Orcs
1 Thrower
5 Line Men
2 RR
4 FF
Done Ok in Practice thinkin of droppin a Line Orc for a Fanatic SP?
What do you think ... Oh and the team name is DA REF SQUAD (black and white stripe colour Scheme)

Ant: I could drop a Beastman and Re-Roll for 130K then buy an Ogre, not sure though.... but it would be so cool to use my beast of nurgle model, he's got a helmet, shoulderpad with straps, the works
That'd be:
1x Lord Borak
2x Chaos Warriors
1x Ogre
7x Beastmen
2x Re-Rolls (inc Borak)
3x Fan Factor
Could be cool.
See what you've done now Ant? My brains working overtime on lineup's.... Argh!

1x FF

1 Ogre - Smash, Smash Chuck a Gobbo!
4 Black Orcs - Yeah there slow but 4 S4 and the Ogre OUCH!!
1 Thrower - Well Someone has to be able to pick up that thing the other team keep kicking at us !!!!
2 Line Orcs
2 Goblins - to dodge and hopefully catch the ball before they get killed
2 RR - any less is just crazy
3 FF
Do you think you realy need 12 players for a Tourney??? I hate goin 1 man down and beein caught open but Orc are Dead ARd I could Prob drop a Gob and A Line Orc for another BLITZER, what do you think??

I would swap at least one black orc for a blitzer, the extra movement and the block skill will come in more handy than st4 no block. Spec as you have an ogre and wouldbe left with 3 black orcs as well. Might even be tempted to take 4 blizters and 2 black orcs, or fast teams will run rungs around you.
Also as this is in the blood bowl thread I assume its for the blood bowl, so have you thought about taking any star players?

I agree with Dook on the Orc team: 4 Blitzers two black orcs is a much better lineup.

not realy a big fan of Star Players might take a Fanatic just for fun i Know Varag is the best Idea but with every orc coach takin im I dont think he'll see much action (if both coaches have the same SP neither can use him)
But are 12 player important?? this is my first tourny been playin BB for ages (2nd edition, bring back the poly pitch!!!) in a league i would allways start with 12 but with the teams resetting and AV9 on most players should i just take 11??
Grumbledook - Feb 23, 2003 - 04:50 AM

i think you will find a lot of teams with just 11 players, I am only taking 11. Its generally the weaker av7 teams that will be having more but then its prob going to be skaven cause they have cheap players where woodelves don't.
As for orcs they have av9 and are quite strong so are less likely to get out numbered. Also if you don't take varag also means you will face him when you play orc teams. Though its entirely up to you. When i play other chaos dwarf teams i fully expect to have only 10 men on my roster but as long as I don't have to play against hthark, I really don't mind.
