North America - Power of "1" one-day tournament - Lasalle, QC

Post subject: Power of "1" one-day tournament - Lasalle, QC
I am looking at doing a one day tourney in Montreal the 27th of November at my local store in LaSalle about 5 minutes from my place.
Have the local 100%, just ironing out the special rules. I know its a bit of a drive for the Toronto area guys, but I hope some of the Ottawa crew will be able to make it out. Probably will have a limited space (around the 12 to 16), but that is still up in the air.
Will keep you all posted in the next couple of days of the special rules and name of the tourney.

Is his wheel chair a standard size....asking cause I want him to come for sure and want to make sure it goes through the front door of the store.

To the out of towners I am once again putting up my place for those that wish to save a few bucks. The Saturday night I am heading downtown for a night of drinking and fun for those that wish to go. Will be nice to, since we do not have to worry about getting up early on Sunday to play any games.

Tempting! Will check my schedule.
Taxal - Sep 16, 2010 - 01:58 PM
Post subject: RE: One day tourney
So if there is any of you that would like to take one of the spots please let me know and I will put you on the list.
If there are any local guys that take spots I will put them on, but remember that there is a chance they will not be NAF members and this is a nice way to get them to join up and to get more people out there to come out to tournaments.

I will see if I can swing it Dan. I may only stay for the day though. Can I assume the schedule will be similar to other tournaments, for the purposes of planning the trip.

Oh, and that free skill that everyone gets, is it really for every player? That's a lot of skillz!

The main reason for the tournament is to get more local players to come out to play at the tournaments. Montreal has a ton of players, but they tend to play at their local store. This way I will get some more out and hopefully they will join us in Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara falls.
The only thing is many of the local guys coming out will not be part of NAF, so I hope this does not bother anyone. Hopefully MArk will be able to come down for it and we get some of them to join up.

I like the simple tournament ruleset. Makes team creation simply. I will do my best to get out, even just too get afew more signed up. Is there a computer at the store I could use. I could register them right there and save some time.

Still hoping to come, any info that may help my cause would be greatly appreciated.

Want to come for this, will take some manoeuvering on my part as I already comitted to something with the wife that night (I think it's her work's Xmas party or something....yawn!!) I'll see what I can do. If I can get out of it somehow I'm there for sure.

Wednesday this week I will confirm it all.....
Taxal - Oct 25, 2010 - 08:03 AM
Post subject:
8:00 - 9:00 sign up
9:00 - 11:30 game 1
11:30 - 12:30 lunch (not supplied)
12:30 - 3:00 game 2
3:00 - 5:30 game 3
5:30 - 6:30 supper (not supplied)
6:30 - 9:00 game 4

The should be a couple of guys that have never played in a tournament and only have as few BB games under their belts. With this I hope you all understand that the main reason for the one day tournament is to try and get a few more players to start coming out to others too.
If any questions please just ask and if anyone needs a place to crash let me know asap. Will be able to have up to 8 of you stay at my place so first come first serve (insert my Mum joke).

Hey Dan, quick question with regards to team building. Are you limited to one skill per player or is that just after team creation each player gets one upgrade. ie. if you spend less than 1 mill to build your team can you use the leftover funds for additional skills prior to each member getting there free one??

I'm thinking it is just the one skill per each player after team creation but I thought I would ask, thanks.
Taxal - Oct 26, 2010 - 07:48 AM
Post subject:
You have the 1 million to build your team, but not allowed to buy any upgrades. You only get the ONE FREE upgrade (regular skill) per player and thats it. Even left over money does not get you anything in upgrades.

Craig, two things: Don't let them take that tourney away from you. There were some heavy hitters in that tourney and I will be your witness since I was the reason you won it. That was the best one day tourney I ever went to. The second thing is, you have offspring? I would never had guessed that.

Sloppy seconds with Dan's mom is a welcome bonus. Usually it is more like sloppy sevenths! lol

If I want REAL motivation, then tell me the sloppy seconds after Dan's mom will be Eric! Then I will REALLY be sure to get this team done! Shocked

Thank you again Taxal for the awesome tourney and thank you to Patrick for running things from your store. Had a great time as usual, games went great or awful from a dice rolling perspective but I enjoyed all of them nonetheless. Had my worst dice rolling game ever I think in my first loss to Tristan as he scored the only TD of the game on the last turn, had my chances but kudos to Tristan for making his rolls when necessary. Thank you to all my other opponents as well as the games were plenty of fun as usual. Looking forward to getting some revenge come January at CCKO against all you JABRONI'S!! Razz

Thanks to Dan for running the tourney and to Pat and Stephanie for not only hosting the tourney but putting up with the funky smells! (remembering being sprayed with Febreeze at one point.....)

It was a good time and the Underworld played a lot better than I thought they would (except for that last game.... shudder. 4-0 loss with 7-1 casualties! Mine only being caused with the last hit of the game!)

First of all Thank You Dan for a great tourney and Thank you Pat and Stephanie for hosting the tourney. Kudos to all the coaches that attended the tourney and finally, thank you to everyone for letting win yet another tournament. I appreciate you guys letting me win in order to help build my confidence and get me back into the tournament scene. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Finally thanks to Eric and Tristan for coming up and bringing me my stuff and I guess,.... thanks to Spazz for also coming ( insert Dan's mom joke).

I had a great time and hope to see you all again at the Sweet Bun.

Many thanks to Dan Ch. for hosting his tourney [it was a blast], Pat and his wife [who put up with us for 12 hours] and Dan Ca. [for a place to crash and allowing us to play Chez Geek till 4am]. And, thanks to my opponents for making me wonder why I traveled 7+ hours for this sh!t . . . not to mention my luck with traveling to/in Quebec has not changed in 4 years (almost got us killed this time too . . .)

Great to see everyone again, especially Dan Ca. [been a long time and the few hours we spent together barely makes up for the time lost].
