Post subject: 2004 NAF Legacy Team
Mr. Green

It's that time again, and this year we're working on a Norse squad! Fanatic has generously donated the following to this year's team Worship :

We were initially working towards a due date of 07/31/2004, but it had been exteded to 08/31/2004, and then again to 09/30/2004. On October 4th, Jake Thorton and Jervis Johnson selected the random winner of the team. Congratulations Thadrin!! Very Happy

Also, Sturmjarl was randomly chosen to receive the extra minis.

By participating in this project, you agree that should you wish to sell the team you will post notification on the NAF Forum and send a PM to all of the other participants. This notification period will last for 14 days. During this time, the participants in the project will each be entitled to a single bid by silent auction.

You also agree to make an effort to bring the 2004 Legacy Team to any tournaments you attend for display or to perhaps even immortalize on the field of battle!

I have wondered whether there are enough interested members who would work on a second legacy team, or is that overkill? I know I would love any team painted to the standards I've seen both here and at TBB, yet I would also like to have more people involved - for me, there would be no reduction in value or esteem for the team, but perhaps others feel differently.

Its not about experience/ability. Its more about a bunch of us getting together and producing a joint effort. There are going to be varying standards of the finished product anyway. Its more about us as a community putting together something unique

If the interest is there I don't see an issue either. I'd rather have 2 teams with 20 minis and 2 winners, than a 40 miniature team and 1 winner.

I voted for Necromantics - many people already have an Orc team, and although the NAF one will be truly unique, I thought the chance to tackle one of the newer Necromantic models (or give a new approach to one of the existing ones) was too good to pass up.

Having said that I'll be more than happy to work on either one. Now, back to the TBB one...

Why isn't Norse on the poll. I think you should go for something with a lot of conversion possibilities. Look at what plastics from the warhammer range are available for building unique figs. If it's a team where there's good conversion and modeling opportunity I'll give something for this. How about Skaven Wink

I think the poll can end way before 31/1. Why not 15/1? not very much people winn vote now.. allready 40 votes !!
many of them will not be participating I think... (I THINK !!!) never had 40 guys participating in a legacy team I think..

There's definitely plenty of time. TBB Team goes through 1/31, plus many folks might have extended holidays. Plus I'm still waiting for a few 2003 figures in the mail.

The Norse missing from the list is an oversight on my part. Embarassed That's one vote for Norse, and others just post them in the thread and we can total them up.

I think we should keep the same deadline every year (if we do one every year) end of Nov IIRC, so plenty of time to decide race, team colours, who does what, etc.

Man! I wanna change my vote to Norse then! Oh well... Maybe we can set up one more poll next weeek with our 2 top vote getters and throw in Norse to even the playing field. I think you did mention a run-off earlier, Mel.

As for time limits... I think to get one team done in one year is far too long a time limit. That encourages people to be lazy about their entries. I think one team every 6 months, and be forceful about a due date should work just fine. Plus I don't want to have another cool mini on my desk for weeks and weeks AND WEEKS only to get so attatched to it that it breaks my heart to see it go! The sooner I can get it done and sent out the better! No time for emotional attatchment! LOL!

I'd be happy to coordinate things again, but if someone else wants to they may certainly step forward. I'm not sure a PM box can handle that volume, but if folks want to post that they are definitely interested I can update the first post of this thread with a list of names. (EDIT: I added everyone who posted thus far...if you want to be removed all you have to do is ask)

We could make Legacy Teams semi-annually if there is sufficient interest. One due in May and one in November? Spreads it out, satisfies those that think too much time can prove a detriment to success, and increases odds of winning. Thoughts? I'll make a poll Very Happy

Also, for those that are curious I took some pics of the Vamp squad but they came out pretty badly Embarassed (which is why I haven't posted them). I will get some outdoor photos of what has already arrived and get them posted to tide us over until the last few figs arrive. Also, I am painting up the two thralls that we didn't have and throwing them into the pot so that the team would have all of the official minis in it. Vampire

Please put my name on the list Mal.

In terms of several legacy teams a year, I would much rather have only one, for two reasons: The first being that of the original 40 who say they are going to contribute, I think the likelyhood is that when the final date looms about 10 will drop out. It seems to have happened with the other teams. This will leave two teams with 15 minis, or one with more than 15 and the other with bugger all. I also believe it takes from the prestige of owning the legacy team once its all over. Having one large or decent sized legacy team just seems so much more significant to me.

Secondly, I believe, if you are keen to contribute to a couple of legacy teams a year, you should join the TBB Legacy team and contribute to that as well. This allows you the possibility of winning one of two teams a year and yet does not dissolve the prestige of owning an annual legacy team.

Or, wait, is there an ogre position available? I'll do that, as I have a partial Morg fig with a new ogre figure head. It was going to be for my Orc team, but as orc's can't have ogre's now (and neither can my two dwarf teams) it's doing noting in my collection. So, if an ogre is available, I'll happily do the ogre for this team.

For the sake of having something by my name - put down 'whatever' + a marker of some sort (score or turn). I don't want to do a full set of markers this time around and I would like to do an on pitch figure of some sort (lineman, blitzer, thrower, catcher, whatever). If people think that I am doing too much by adding in a marker, I can skip the marker...

Updated through here. I'm going to edit the order of the names to group by player type where possible so its easier to get an idea of what we have as preferences at a glance.

A pitch would be an amazing thing, and I like the snow covered NAF Logo in the team colors idea, although if someone were going to do a pitch they could certainly do whatever their creative muses were encouraging. Very Happy

Ok got a question. I came up with what i think is a awsome pitch for the team, what i need to know is what text should i include?

I mean like NAF Legacy Team 2004 Or do we have a name for the team or something like that?

Also anyone want to look at what i have in mind and i can rework it if everyone would prefer something else?

And finally, Should i submit the file for download by everyone, or should this be unquire to the winner?

Needless to say i will be sending in a printed pitch and am looking into various mounting ideals.

Well the pitch still needs refinement. I would put a logo on the bottom to read something like NAF Legacy team 2004 or something like that.

I'd like the pitch to be a bit more dirty ... after all there's a game of Blood Bowl played on it! Depending on how deep you imagine the snow to be , i'd like some earth peeking through, blood stains and other details.

I would prefer the pitch to be more like frozen tundra than an ice flow. Norsca isn't that far north. So lots of dirt and thin tough looking grass, the usual BB field detritus and snow heavily encroaching on the borders of the field with patches further in would be much better.

The logo in the centre of the field is fantastic, but looks too 'printer perfect'. Is there any chance of it being 'roughed up a bit', or made to look more like it's been painted onto grass?

Just my opinion, and I realise all that could be a very large amount of hard work.
Sineater - Feb 25, 2004 - 12:23 PM

Ok so we want a little dirt and blood instead of the ice cap. The dirt i think i can do, its the blood that is more likely to be the problem. Ya see i am not an artist, these pitches are made with lots of fills, tubes and brushes. As for the center art i do think i could roughen it up a little.

The hardest thing i have foudn so far is trying to get snow to look realistic on top of grass (which was my first attempt). Will play around sopem more with it till i get it right though, we got time Smile

Thx! I found out that you have to be very careful with yellow when painting blonde. I start with bubonic brown, then a light snakebite leather (-> brownish blonde) or chestnut wash (reddish blonde). Then highligths in a mix of bubonic brown and bone with a little bit of sunburst yellow. I guess it's almost like painting NMM gold (not that i ever tried that) Wink

Ok, I've randomized things using some dice so we can get started. I started off randomly selecting the painters for Thrudd, the Minotaur, and the Ogre. Then taking into account all of the conversions or alternate miniatures already volunteered, then I filled preferences and randomized the rest to get us 4 blitzers, 2 catchers, 2 throwers, and 12 linemen.

So even if you didn't get one of the random positions to simply paint you can still have a Norse miniature to use in your conversion work for assistant coaches, head coach, cheerleaders or markers. Time to get creative Very Happy

Ogre: BlanchPrez
Minotaur: crazylegs
Thrudd: Mordredd
Blitzer 1: ForceCommander
Blitzer 2: Tim & Djengis_khan
Catcher 1: Tojorub
Catcher 2: Thadrin
Thrower: Ben
Lineman 1: aerofool, Torpor, dwarfcoach
Lineman 2: Squiggoth, Hangus, howlinggriffon
Lineman 3: Jaylazer, Boblo_Jellyroll, KLK

Feel free to hack and covert the minis with some greenstuff even if you were randomly selected to paint a mini above. It will only make the team more unique in the end. I'll go in and update the first post with the above.

Keep those addresses coming if I need to send you a figure.

Also, my conversion idea could easily be changed so if someone wants to work on a thrower, feel free to claim it and I will do an assistant coach or something else Very Happy

I know I may be late coming to this but I would LOVE to partake in this if possible. I realize you have MANY positions filled but Vikings are one of my specialties-I did the Valkyrie Amazon team at the TKC in Orlando. If you need more ideas with all those figs I would add the old Star Players from the Citadel Journal list -Wolhowl Blackscar, Icepelt Hammerblow, and Ulrik Wuulfson. I am open to painting/converting any fig. (wizard/cheerleaders/mascots??) LMK either way or even if you need a last-minute alternate to make your July deadline. @Teambloodyhorns & Melifaxis:

As far as another minotaur the thing I would say against that idea is that since I switched to using a converted GW doombull as the mino, he'll be tourney legal wherever you go, so whoever wins the team would have a repetetive miniature (unless you make him look like an assistant or something). On the positive side, the winner would have an extra mino to choose from, which isn't a bad thing...

Either way, my fun won't be affected, so I say do what you want.

This seemed to be a well received idea for bases. I usually put the number in the front and my NAF Nickname on the back. Post subject: Remember when
when i said i was working on another project for the Legacy, in addition to the pitch?

Well this is still a work in progress but here's the direction i am going.

Its in a very rough stage right now, but what your looking at is a embrodiery machine badge. I took the logo and converted it into a machine readable file. I am going to stich it and make a dice bag. The front will be the badge and the back will read "NAF Legacy 2004"

The bag will be blue of course to go with the team colors Smile

Sineater - May 10, 2004 - 08:39 AM

well the problem is two fold. First i dont hold the copywrite so i could not do it without permission. I figured it was not a problem for the contest, or for a personal thing. Second your talking a whole lot of work here! Each badge takes 61mins to stich and thats just sew time not the time it takes to switch out threads. They also are rather $$ to make, not even counting labor but the thread and such to make them.

As for "snowy bases", similar to GW site:

1. Sanded base (let some "trickle over" the sides for extra effect)
2. Medium grey basecoat
3. (Here's where I differ) Thinned blue-ink wash
4. Dry-brush "off white"
5. High-light "bright white"

Looks good. (If I knew how to post a picture, I would.)

I personally use black ring around the base to make the "snow" stand out ... and I number the edge of the bases for easier player recognition.

Umm, I'm afraid not... I have a Dictionary here in front of me I'll quote it for you....

      Quote:
hockey n.1. A game played on ice, in which players, wearing skates and wielding sticks, try to drive a disk (puck) into the opponent's goal. 2. A similar game played on a field (field hockey), in which a small ball is used instead of a puck.

Well you also have a game in North America called Football in which you run with the ball in your hands and throw it to each other Smile
Clan_Skaven - Jul 15, 2004 - 06:30 AM
Post subject: true
True, true, but the "Football" you refer to is "Canadian Football" or as in the States "American Football" I'll be the first to admit that the true meaning of the word "Football" is a game where a round ball is kicked, not thrown.

Why we North Americans have to be different from the rest of the world & call "Football" , "Soccer" is beyond me.

And its just for the record it's, Tuna..... Not Tunafish! Wink

hockey [Show phonetics]
noun [U]
1 UK a game played on a sports field between two teams of eleven players who each have a curved stick with which they try to put a small hard ball into the other team's goal

Actually, Field Hockey played on ice is called Bandy.
Its only really played in Sweden, Russia, Finland, Norway and a couple of places that were once Russia. Good fun to watch, if you can follow the ball.

Hockey will always mean field hockey to me, though if a Swede refers to Hockey I know it means Ice Hockey. Field hockey is called Land Hockey here.

then there's floorball or Innebandy http://www.innebandy.se/t3.asp?p=34182 - which is like Icehockey minus the ice and with a ball.

Count me out of the draw as well, I'll still get it to you (painted) but it will be late (already is late) . Working a Salary job is not the greatest. Been very busy as of late. If the set gets mailed off before i finnish, I'll mail to you anyway Mel with some extra cash (shipping costs) so you can send it to the winner. Sorry again.

Actually, the deadline has come and gone but we don't have enough players to even field a team yet so we'll need to extend it. I think August 31st is about as far as we should push it though. Any minis in before then will still be in the draw.

I'll start PMing those who haven't sent one in yet to let them know of the new deadline and remind them that the first one has come and gone.

Working salaried jobs can certainly be a pain the a$$... I can definitely empathize with you on that front.

Hi,
This is a form PM to those who expressed interest in the 2004 NAF Legacy Team (Norse).

I just want to check with each of you because the 2nd deadline for the Legacy Team is tomorrow (it was initially July 31st and we moved it out 1 month). Please post an update in the thread, even if it's "Sorry can't do it".

I will consider pushing the deadline out again in the interests of getting the winner a prize worthy of the NAF, but I'm thinking that those who got them in on time should get their name in the draw twice...nothing definite, but it seems they deserve something.

Thanks,
Rob

Hopefully we'll start getting some responses. If I sent you a PM and you've already given me an update, my apologies...just send me a PM back calling me Really Stupid or a Bonehead Very Happy

Ok (deep breath):

I messed up.

It's that simple. I moved back to London after 4 years living in the Midlands (a dark and miserable part of the uk where nothing much happens Wink ). This happened just over 6 weeks ago. I still have about 6 boxes of 'stuff' in my parents shed whilst I try and get myself organised, find a job etc. End result?

I can't find the Norse lineman that I was sent and if (when Embarassed ) I do find it it will not be ready for the comp Confused Sad Mad .

All I can do is offer my apologies for this tardy behaviour and by way of explanation state that if I had known sooner that I would be moving I would not have accepted the challenge of a legacy team.

All I can say is that I will definately get him done (honest, I promise) and I would ask that the draw be made (not including myself) with my figure 'owing' and I will post on the figure when it is done.

Sorry guys.

It was close to accurate (I updated it yesterday at 5pm EST). I just updated the list again now though. We have a few in the mail, but two of them may elude us. Torpor's was sent about one month ago! International mail has been a bit slow lately, at least in my experience. Has anyone else experienced the same?

Kwailung's package arrived yesterday, but had been taped up. Confused Inside were two items that he didn't even send (an AOL Latino disc and a tiny pad of paper that said The Lasers and had an image of a gun)! How random is that?!?! Mad He's going to his post office today to see if maybe they found it. I'm going to do a Google search to see if I can find a band or something called The Lasers and see if maybe they got the wrong stuff in the mail...a slim shot at best...

Well, as expected, there was nothing the post office could (or would) do. It seemed to boggle the postmaster's mind that I was there not to demand that he find and return my item but simply to alert him that there was a problem somewhere between Georgia and Massachusetts that had manifested itself last weekend. Hurmmmm.

Even though my figure won't make the team, since he's now living life on the lam on the Eastern Seaboard somewhere, anyone who wants to see what it looked like can check him out at CMON.

I am not thrilled that my contribution has gone a bit wayward. The Royal Mail released a report today about how they have done with their performance targets. They have met none of their goals in 15 areas in the timeframe since March, so I shouldn't be too surprised all in all. However it is disappointing. I went into my local GW today and ordered a Norse booster. I hope that the booster will be in by the end of the week and can get something in for the team by the following week if the post is accomodating enough. If my first package surfaces, the team will get a bonus figure in effect. Put me in the draw or not as you see fit, but there will be something from me for the team shortly. My apologies on behalf of Royal Mail, but am doing what I can.

I think this seems like the way to go. So unless I hear a big protest the above is what we'll do.

Let's set a final date of 09/30/2004. The draw will be made that night after I get home and check the mail (I am in the EST time zone)

I hate to push the deadline again, but there's not even 1 thrower back in yet and I think a NAF Legacy team should be a legendary prize not a half of a team. I will not push it past this date though. Those who have sent figs in already can certainly speak up and veto this idea.

Also, I wanted to say thanks for being patient guys, especially those of you that mailed them in July.

What do folks think of allowing multiple contributions to get multiple draws? Bad idea? Good idea?

One way to do it that may be fair is to cap the draws by deadline:
Met Original Deadline = Max of 4 draws
Met Second Deadline = Max of 3 draws
Met Final Deadline = Max of 2 draws

Thus TomB who sent 3 minis by the original deadline would get 4 draws as would anyone who met the original deadline and sends in one more....likewise joebloggs who reads this for the first time today, decides to paint like a mad man this week and mail them in could get up to 2 draws with 2 figures.

I think there needs to be some kind of limit to encourage painting at a best effort level. Thoughts?

I concur. I think this proposal sounds great. And knowing now that you're still without a thrower, I can paint one up and hope the figure actually makes it to you this time!

So if I'm reading this correctly, submitting another fig would get me three draws, right, since I (sorta) met the second deadline?

it's not all about winning the team it's just like painting a nice model for the naf team, (which is won by one lucky bastard.. ) why not make every one just one draw.. I think everyone did a good job on the team so I think every one did his/her best. this deserves a rightfull chance to winn the team.

thats my words, please all say what you think of it.

That's just the point - not everyone has done their best on the team. I missed the first cut-off completely and was a few days late on the second - why would I deserve the same chance of winning the team as Tackledummy whose model was in Mel's clammy little mitts back in July?

The guys who met the original targets deserve more of a chance of winning the team than those, like me, who for some reason or another couldn't pull their fingers out.

I just feel bad that after all the promises, a lot of people still aren't going to do the models they said they will - I'd like to help out by submitting another figure to the team to get it done once and for all.

Did you see the 2003 team in Fanatic Mag No. 2? It really was a great advert for NAF as it showed all of the international coaches pulling together. That's just not happened this year. I'm not sure if it's because some are disillusioned by the Vault rules that confused the hell out of everyone (I stopped playing just after that as I couldn't keep up with the changes...) but there's definitely been a drop in interest in the project overall.

OK, I'm finishing my figure up this week and will be sending it back to Mel by the weekend (now that I've got power again...! Very Happy

But here's my one post on how the distribution should go - there should be no added draws because it wasn't made clear before the new deadline was established... backtracking after the fact is not a good precedent to my mind...

So there's no thinking that my opinion is selfish, I'm taking myself out of the running for the team... I'm late and I'd much rather see one of you guys have the teams anyway... But it's precisely these questions and issues that need to be stated before changes are made, rather than invented, voted upon, and argued about afterwards...

That's all I'll say on that... and I look forward to seeing the entire team when it's completed... Very Happy

Have to say I'm very dissappointed in the people who have not contributed when they said they would. One damn figure, painted to a good standard for use rather than display shouldn't take more than a couple of evenings.

In the time since this started I've painted a whole Norse team...and a bunch of Warmachine stuff - and that's despite my procrastination.

That said, I'd rather have a full team, so the proposal seems fine to me.

I like the idea of pushing the deadline to the end of this month so that a more complete team can be assembled.

As for number of draws, I think I agree with Djengis_kahn to a point. It's not about winning the team. It's more about contributing to the team. If I win it, that will be great. I don't have a painted Norse team. But if I don't win, that'll be great too because I'm still a part of it.

I would rather there was one drawing per entry. So the guy who put 3 in would get 3 draws. But those who were early would still get one.

I guess I don't look at this a contest, but more as a community project where someone gets to keep the finished product.

I'm with OMM (and welcome back from the swamp age, hope you weathered the storm OK)... I have yet to see a legacy team be completely turned in on it's first or second deadlines. So if you made it in early, great. Late shame on you. If I wanted to I could have slapped together a model and done it in a night and gotten it in last year... but I shouldn't get extra draws for it. If you have extra figs in, then I guess that could be a legitimate added draw, because of the effort. I've got 3 myself now that the team seemed short *MEL why didn't you tell me to do a thrower?!! Doldt!!*, but I'm only expecting 1 draw. We've had multiple contributions before, and still only 1 draw. Note I used CONTRIBUTON not entry. We aren't selling tix at 1 mini a pop. We should be doing this to be part of something cool and bigger than our selves... not just to win. This is a hobby 1st and foremost, Life gets in the way sometimes, plain and simple. Folks are contributing what they can with to the best of their efforts. Now that there's a 3rd deadline I say if there are people who don't pony up by 9/30, then they're out, done, that's it. And it is our duty to remind them on a daily basis what slackers they are.

Here's a nickel, gimme back 3 pennies.

I agree with most of what Djengis_Khan and jaylazer have said. I too viewed it as something to contribute to, rather than something to win. The multiple draws for multiple contributions, I am not overly keen on. If that were in place for the vampire team, I would have had a fair number of chances from the re-roll markers. As for extra draws for meeting a particular deadline, am not too keen on that either as it doesn't exactly encourage people to finish what they have and it doesn't take into account postal problems. That being said, I will send in a replacement player (a thrower) in addition the possibility of Mr. Postman showing up with the original lineman and would like my name withdrawn from whatever lottery is decided in the end for the team.

I paint my figure, I send it, and I really want to win the whole team. they will find a good place to live in.

Well teh "stiffarm" is all greenstuff on a reg. round slotta. The other 2 already had a small, textured base, so I added gs to make the size right on top of a slotta base, and then poked with a sculpting tool to make it match.

To come back to the lottery part/low participation:

I agree and disagree to OMM statement, that these things had to be discussed and agreed on at the start of the project. If we would have known that only less than 25%(!!!!) off all participants are able to paint one miniature within 8 months (second deadline!!!!!), then we might have been able to think about discussing that af the beginning. From what I've seen of last years project, was that there were also a few people who have missed the deadline, but it was to a much lesser extend. WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A TEAM TO FIELD 11 PLAYERS at this point.

I know that some people have their private life, which doesn't always allows then to keep up with their plans, but me e.g. I was basically moving for 2 months from the US to Germany, but I still found some time to paint the figure in time. I don't think it's my best work, but I would rate it at 80-90% of my painting capabilities. I even had to buy new undercoat and varnish since I couldn't take my spray paint cans with me in the plane or sea crate. I don't want to bragg, but I just wanted to show that even with some hurdles on the way you should have been able to make it in time. I can see if like 10-25% af all people can't make it, but 75%!!!!! Give me a break!

As long as I have one ticket in the draw I'm satisfied and I only hope the winner will get a team with at least 12-13 players (plus some coaching staff).

I guess that was more than just 2pc.

Personally I've had enough. I think we should call it and draw between those who have actually got miniatures in. I said this at the end of the TBB legacy team and I'll say it again. People who failed to paint a mini within a month over the deadline should be barred from participating in future legacy teams. The same thing has happened time and time again with every single legacy team that has been run and yet we still keep trying to make exceptions and extend deadlines for their tardiness. I've honestly had enough to the point where I don't think I'll be entering in a Legacy team again if the same lazy people are signed up for doing minis. I understand there are always exceptions to the rule, some people have had a family crisis or have been snowed under with work from new jobs, but like Torj said, 75% is simply beyond a joke.
McDeth - Sep 08, 2004 - 03:01 AM

Ok here goes.

previous experiences have shown me.

If people haven't contributed when the draw is made, then they dont send there figures after either. I am still waiting for two figures which were supposed to being sent from the first TBB legacy draw. When i say waiting , i've actually given up on em, but its disappointing that people say they'll do one thing when in reality have no intention of doing so. I've learned it s no good trusting to human nature because it just dont happen.

Secondly the draw should be limited now to whoever has sent models in, or have posted by the final closing date. 1 Drawer per person.

Last note

8 Months??????. I've seen it all before, why oh why people enter these with no intentiuon of completing i really dont know, but its happened with every legacy team, and all it does is spoil it for those who take part. End result, the lucky winner instead of ending up with a truly awesome and unique team ends with a mishmash of players that cant even generate a starting lineup.

Mel, Certainly shouldn't be the one apologising, its the people who cant paint one model in 8 months and have the decency to return the free model ( for cripes sake ) who should be apologising.

I appreciate that a few may have difficulties, but 75% ??get real.

Just to be more precise...it was not really 8 month...the first post in this thread originated in January, which is a little misleading....I just checked...Mel received the free GW minis after TKC, which was middle of March, which made it roughly 4 months to paint until the first deadline.

Ditto in Mel apologising, sorry Mel in my frustration I forgot to mention it aswell. You got no need to apologise, in fact thank you so much for having the brass to take charge and be responsible for this.

In terms of Fanatic's donated Minis. If there are some that still need painting send one or two my way and they'll be painted to the same standard as my Blitzer within a fortnight.

To give the winning coach the opportunity to field any roster he chooses, the team would need the following:
4 Blitzers (we have 4)
2 Catchers (we have 2, 1 lost, and 1 more on the way)
2 Throwers (we have 0, but 1 on the way)
12 Linemen (we have 6, plus 1 lost, plus 3 on the way)
1 Chainsaw Weilding Lineman (we have 1)
1 Ogre (we have 1)
1 Minotaur (we have 0)
Zara (we have 1 on the way)
Thrud (we have 0)

I'm going to consider any that haven't come here after the PM's or to post/check in to be non-contributors at this point. That means it looks like to make this a top notch squad we need:
1 Thrower
3 Linemen
1 Minotaur
1 Thrud

Am I missing anything?

See I do have to apologize. Embarassed Xtreme had opted out quite a while ago and I left him in the list of interested parties. That being said, he wants to paint one up this week and send one in to help make this team complete!

I'll see what minis I have left from the Fanatic donation when I get home from work. I'm pretty sure there's a thrower, a blitzer, and a lineman (but we have 4 blitzers).

so what is going on with the draw? I know my opinion would be biassed as i sent in 3 minis way before the original deadline, but to point out although i wouldnt mind winning i didnt enter to win, i just like people to see my work.

I like the way over the last few days everyone has got together to get this team sorted out (although i would prefer it if it wasnt the same people who had already entered)

On another point i think people who were sent a free model and didnt send it back should be banned from getting any more free models (but not banned from entering a legacy team)

Thanks to all of you for helping to get this together at the wire (albeit the third wire), especially those of you who have already painted a figure. I appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication.

I have 4 miniatures left from Fanatic. Thrower, Blitzer 2, Lineman 1, and Catcher 2. I can mail them out to whomever donates a figure of their own or needs one to participate. I also have a Phil's Valk of my own that I could send out or paint.

Tackledummy, Djengis, McDeth, howlinggriffon, Xtreme, Grasshopper, DrakDancer, kwailung, Torpor, and myself are all willing to paint something else up. Shadwe and DarkDancer want in.

Of the gaps I had previously identified it looks like we have the following specific volunteering:
Thrower (kwailung, Torpor, and Ben)
Lineman (Torg)
Lineman ( )
Lineman ( )
Thrudd (howlinggriffon)
Minotaur (Xtreme or Grasshopper?)

I would like to offer Shadewe and DarkDancer the chance to fill a lineman slot before we go to someone who has already painted if that's ok with everyone.

Just call out here what you want to do and I'll update this.

OK, missed that on reading the first page. BTW, I don't have any boltgun metal, not sure if I have Lightning Blue either, but I can find something to highlight the Enchanted Blue. What colour is the Boltgun Metal? I have a paint called gunmetal, but it's really dark (is that what you want?).

In theory we should know who the lucky winner is very soon. I asked Jake to post the winner directly in this thread.

Ok, so who is this Jake, and what's his Paypal account name? Orc Mr. Green Twisted Evil

Post subject: And the winner is...
...number 7.

Well that's what it says on this piece of paper.

Just so you know this was fair and above board, I wrote out 1-21 on bits of paper and folded them up. Jervis then drew out 2 of them (one to win the team, the other to get any spare figs that may be left over) from the Dungeonbowl tankard they were in. I was going to use dice, but I've lost my D21.

Looking up the numbers on Rob's spreadsheet translates 7 to Thadrin. Congratulations Thadrin - proud owner of the 2004 NAF legacy team!

The second number was 21, which is Sturmjarl. He gets the remainder of the miniatures to start his own Norse team.

And that's that. Hope everyone had fun with the models, and we'll see more of these great competitions again.

All the best

Jake Thornton

I think most definitely there should be a Legacy team, each year. Despite the struggle sometimes, the final result brings pride and a sense of accomplishment to everyone who submits a figure (not to mention the looks of envy and awe from others who see the team and didn't participate! Very Happy )

There are several NAF members in Europe who would like to lead a Legacy effort - Rob, you've done such a great job with the last two, would you be willing to write up a pointers list to give to someone who was organizing a Legacy team, including the set of rules that we've established for how to proceed and how to handle things like coach selection or the ownership issue?

Being somewhat abashed at my inability to complete a figure, I admire even more all of you who put it together - congrats to each and every one of you and once again to Dave!

Thanks Jim Very Happy

I already wrote up an article for Jake and Andy on the topic that should see light in Fanatic soon. To be honest, I haven't looked at it since I submitted it, but I'll see if there's anything I can add beyond what was written.
