North America - The Chaos Cup -- September 17-18, 2011

nyarlathotep - Feb 14, 2011 - 11:38 AM
Post subject: The Chaos Cup -- September 17-18, 2011
Summertime in Chicago....lots of stuff to do. Take your kids, take your wife, and take your husbands too on a nice little trip and while you're here....get in the CHAOS CUP 2011! http://thechaoscup.com/

This year marks the first year of a Chaos Cup Committee taking over the planning duties to ensure this is the best event possible. Xtreme is hard at work on the rules pack. Nyarlathotep has some great promotion updates to tell you about in the coming months. Valdric is keeping an eye on the loot. Alkaline13 is making sure we got places to sit...and places to s*it.....and The Main Guy is somehow overseeing this process. And yet, even with that last line, I still expect this event to be awesome!

We've had several US states being represented, and even coaches from other countries in attendance before, and this year I hope to see more of the same.

A big change from last year, based on popular request, is giveaways to all participants.

EVERY participant will be given....

-Limited Edition Spider Smith Chaos All-Star model
donated by Impact Miniatures

-2 Official Chaos Cup 2011 D6's
- Official Chaos Cup Dugout
- Official Chaos Cup iron-on/sew-on patch
- Official Chaos Cup Coin

There will be trophies and prizes as well for those who do well, but it's nice to know that no matter how you finish, you are walking/driving/flying/teleporting home with some nice schwag.

I've been in constant talks with the staff at the GW Battle Bunker, and demanded items such as not double booking our venue space with other events, seating priority, usage of the employee bathroom to save time, and there is even a possibility of getting some Blood Bowl stuff in stock or available for pre-order. If they want to keep the event there, they've gotta play by our rules now!

PREREGISTRATION OPENS ON MARCH 1ST
Stay tuned to this thread for details on how to preregister.

Price will be $30 if you preregister
Otherwise $35 at the door

On a final note, this tournament is one week away from the other North American Major, The Spike Tournament in Canada. Make your plans now to hit both tournaments in one trip!

March 1st is just around the corner. Get ready to sign up!

Chaos Cup 2011...where Other Guy and Main Guy will force you to hoist this 100lb trophy above your head if you win!

Pre-Registration List to date
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key ... y=COjgiLUB

Get on the list now, remember the Chaos Cup Pitches will be sold in order of this list, so if you are to far down you run the risk of not getting the chance to buy one. Having seen a preview of how they are coming along I can say you will want one of these.

6 games now? Awesome. Good move main dude.

Post subject:
Oh yeah....this is the major....it needs to be 6. One day we may even try for 7. Seriously.
generaljason - May 05, 2011 - 07:51 AM
Post subject:
We tried 7 games in the first year we ran the Spike! back in 2008. That first day was a bit gruelling with 4 games knowing that you had 3 more the next day so we opted for 6 max Spike! 2009 and on. 6 is plenty imho and I agree - the minimum amount of games that should be played for a major. Again good move raising it from 5 games to 6, I'm just saying be weary of 7 games. 2 cents.

Gj.
Jonny_P - May 05, 2011 - 03:02 PM
Post subject:
Good points and appreciate the feedback. To be honest, there are not many supporters of 7 games around here, so I probably am just all talk anyways. Classic Main Guy.

I'm trying to drive as much attendance as possible to the Chaos Cup this year, so if you feel like helping out, please print out the below flyer and post up in your local game store...

OR if you are running a tournament coming up in the next few months, please print out several and hand them out, or scatter them around your workspace. Either is fine.

did you purposely removed the line "you have to have GW minis that represent what they are (i.e. mutants have to have mutations)" ?

if yes, thanks.

if not...
Jonny_P - May 17, 2011 - 10:24 PM
Post subject:
Yes...I actually have a few minor updates and overall clean up to the rules being posted soon....but yeah, there is no need to model mutations on just as I would not expect someone to add extra armour plates for their +1AV, or model a model jumping for Leap, or extra muscles for Strong Arm, etc.

With that said...I'd still expect people to mark their mutated players just as they would mark their skilled players...base rings or something similar. In the next update to the rules I go more into detail on this and even discuss how failure to do so may even affect scoring a bit.

See this guy... the name is Chaz. Spelled Chaos. Silent O. You'll be hearing a lot from him soon... probably on a future Zlurpcast or if you get Zlurp Nation emails. Maybe even some Press Releases posted to this forum.

He's the new mascot of the Chaos Cup... 100% pure evil.... but also the weakest half-daemon you'll ever meet. His mom was knocked up by one of the Chaos Gods. She doesn't remember which. So for the next four years, he'll be dedicating each Chaos Cup to one of his potential daddys. Year 1... sponsored by Khorne Flakes!

More on this later... but look for Chaz's face on all the Chaos Cup swag this year!

Question on the rules (I'm actually reading them before the tournament, how's that for preparation Smile ). Does "Provided marker for any failed negative skills (if applicable)" include skills that simply end your action, such as wild animal, or does it suffice to turn the player that has ended his move?
Jonny_P - Jul 18, 2011 - 04:30 PM
Post subject:
My thought with the "if applicable" meant to signify something. Since in the case of Wild Animal, and all it does is end his action, much like a regular model ends his action... I personally would have no issue whatsoever. Its best, as usual, (and since your opponent is filling out this sheet after each game), that you just let them know what your plan is for showing models who've completed an action. Turning, etc.

Someone recently asked me about stuff to do.... so figured I'd just post it here for others to use as well. This is only a fraction of things out there, but at least its a start!

      Quote:

Friday is a Cubs game and I will be there if you feel like getting tickets too! Blood Bowl takes over Wrigley!

Other stuff you may want to check out...I threw some locations on there if you want to google map things out a bit.

-Lou Malnati's Pizza - the best pizza ever. in Schaumburg (On Roselle Rd), In Naperville (On Washington)
Those two locations are in the burbs (northern and southern respecivcely), so if you want good pizza without going into the city, try those. If you are already going into Chicago, then try one of their city locations http://www.loumalnatis.com/Locations/ Lincoln Park or the Loop.

-Johnny's Beef - best Italian beef around. Elmwood Park or Arlington Hts. WHen you are at Chaos Cup, there is a place Portillos right there that has pretty good beefs too. No cheese. Make sure to ask for it dipped.

-Kuma's Corner - on Belmont in Chicago. Heavy Metal themed burger joint. Its fucking amazing. Be prepared to wait awhile to get a table, but it is a pretty cool experience. http://www.kumascorner.com/

-Game Pazzo - I've never been here. I just recently heard about it. its a big video game place and bar. I heard its pretty cool, and it is pretty close to the bunker area in Downers Grove. http://gamepazzo.com/

- There is also a Dave and Busters in Addison (Swift Rd) and a Gameworks in Schaumburg (Higgins Rd) that offers tons of arcade, and other games and food and drinks

- If you are just planning on going downtown, I recommend getting to Lake Shore Drive. Its a fun drive just to sightsee. and it really spans the entire length of the city... when it splits off to Michigan Ave, take that to check out even more cool stuff. Also check out Navy Pier to walk around and have fun... Bubba Gump Shrimp is there, which is a cool restarant. Near Soldier Field is also the Field Museum, downtown is the Art Institute, and there are also some good comedy clubs like Zanies.... also in the north side you can check out Second City.... I took classes there earlier this year! But you should go for the real performers, not the dirtbags who think they are funny!

Hope that helps... just some ideas off the top of my head
