I do tend to agree, although it might be kinda hard in a tournament with such a small number of coaches playing. It might be possible to sort out the first round so no ECBBL people play others, but it would probably be too much hassle for subsequent rounds.

What do people think, do they like the idea of not allowing matches against "regular" opponents or should the first round be random and then they play whoever they are drawn against (unless they've already played them)?

Random is better. With such a large proportion from the ECBBL they're going to be playing each other at some point, so why not at the beginning?

Besides, it seems like there's some team tactics going on here. Ensure that maximum possible 12 ECBBL wins in round 1 to increase the chances of taking the cup! Wink

By the way, is anyone travelling down from near Birmingham?

Well, at both the Dutch open and Rendez-vous the first rounds were drawn from three different pools to ensure a good mix of nationalties..i.e. the draws were weighted so that the travelling foreigners played against nationals. That IMO is nice way of doing things as it promotes international interaction.
However, this tournament is primarily UK attended with only a few international attendees, and keeping club members apart is a different kettle of fish.

Mordredd is right, there may be 12 ECBBL members there, but 5 of those are currently ranked in the top 25. Keeping them apart in the first round would significantly help out the ECBBL as a whole. Hell, they are bound to end up playing each other anyway (and you can't play the same opponent more than once), so why give them 'in effect' a leg up?
I am very opposed to this. It amounts to seeding the ECBBL.
Let Nuffle sort it out.

Confused I guess I hadn't really thought about the "effective seeding" side effect.

Its a fair point and one I'm happy enough to concede. I'll just have to pray to Nuffle that I get a few against non-ECBBLers.

I do feel that one of the main points of going to a tourney is to play as many new people as possible (or at least irregular opponents - Woody I hope I get a chance at some revenge after my Sunday meltdown at Tulips).

Well I hope you do! Do you think a black shirt should get you some sort of 'seeding' privilege or something? Very Happy

I feel it should get us Goblin, Halfling and high elf opponents for the first 2 rounds!

Well, because being arrogant buggers we are convinced the last 2 round will all be ECBBl at the top tables Smile

I guess it doesn't matter, but it is possible for one of the ECBBL to play every game against another blackshirt.

It would be nice to get one guarrentied game vs a non regular opponent.

How about doing the first round off overall NAF ranking? So top two NAF coaches there play each otehr and so on down, with the non NAF guys randomised as normal?

Seeding by NAF ranking is, IMO, a really bad idea. Unless of course its the race you are actually playing Wink

Heh heh..the trash talk starts! Mr. Green
Actually I'm looking forward to meeting some ECBBL guys, missed out playing Geggster by TD difference in Game 4 at the Dutch Open, haven't quite figured how I missed you all at the BB as well.
In fact Ian is the only guy I've met in competition (and just a friendly against Marcus to add to that!).

Ian: Be nice to have a more of a game with Nuffle being more 'even handed'....see you in the final then! Wink

I'd rather avoid all the Blackshirts if possibly can, while I can still hold my head up as an average coach.Wink

Oh, and Woody if that's possible. Every time I play him my dice are only numbered 1-3 Confused

OK after many requests, I'm publishing what I currently have in mind for a prize list...

First Prize - Main Trophy & Pro-painted Vampire Lord (check out my Nurse post for an idea of the painting standard Shocked)

Second Prize - Trophy & Vampire Lord painted by the best painter in the GW Blood Bowl league/ GW Store Cambridge.

Most Sporting Opponent - Trophy & pick from mini pool
Best Painted Team - Trophy & pick from mini pool
Most TDs - Trophy & pick from mini pool
Most CAS - Trophy & pick from mini pool

(These awards will be presented in that order - however, whoever gets the most TDS + CAS will go first for the TD/CAS picks. i.e. both winners add their combined TDs and CAS together to see who gets first pick)

Most Travelled Opponent - Shadowforge Nun Team
Wooden Spoon - Uruk Hai paintset (www.nugaming.com)

(Note that the Winner of the Wooden spoon will take Sportsmanship points into account to discourage attempts to go for this prize directly.)

Raffle - BB Annual 2003 signed by Andy Hall, JKL and all competitors.

I've also got one or two more ideas up my sleeve... Wink

The mini pool contains the following.

3 x Vampires (unreleased)
3 x Vampires (unreleased)
2 x Dark Elf Secret Weapons (unreleased)
2 x Dark Elf Secret Weapons (unreleased)

A mediocre 159.9 NAF ranking Sad Then again should be going up by at least 10 points after this Smile
