I agree with Lucy first come first served is the fairest way.
I was up at 8 on the morning the tickets went on sale i had had about 4 hours sleep and had the biggest hang over of my life!! but it was well worth being on hold for 20 mins!! and i will be doing the same again when the ticket go on sale again |

I don't see a big problem with their being a predominance of English coaches at the bloodbowl if it's in England... it almost sounds sensible in fact. Was surprised by how many people came from aborad, it was good to see. But have to agree with the 'it's for fun' camp. If we get to the stage of national heats etc then relative newcomers would be automatically excluded. Just because you have a bloodbowl obsession doesn't actually make you more worthy of a ticket in my opinion. Anyone who wants to call at 8.00am or whatever should have a chance for a ticket. If you want selective world ranking events go and take up a real sport, not a board game. |

One thing I noticed at the BBGT was that there were, what, 175 players turning up for 200 spaces. One of our crew came down to take advantage of the 10% non-show (a little higher at the BBGT, but 10% is a good rule of thumb but couldn't buy a ticket on the day.
Now I understand that the 25 missing coaches may have shown up, but you *could* pre-register any such over-eager coaches and let them into the hall after registration closes... Or have I been spending too much time with Hobgoblins?
The alternative was that the 175th player had to play against a GW staff member who couldn't win the tournament. Not much fun really. |

I don't think staff members can participate in GW tournaments. At the Golden Deamons they can only enter at the Open Catgeory (which means they can't win the Slayer Sword) and they're excluded from Grand Tournaments. They can however participate in Fanatic tournaments (which is probably also what the BB is), so perhaps he was there to claim the cup indeed
Martijn (who isn't really allowed to play in Fanatic tournaments and is suddenly wondering wether the BB is or is not organized by Fanatic? ) |

At the Baltimore GT, we did have a staff member step in to fill the odd number for one game until an opponent showed up. |

The restriction from staff members participating in GTs was lifted a while back (last year?). I remember reading it in WD. |

Something that hasn't been mentioned is incongruity between GW wanting to encourage painting as an integral part of the hobby, yet not rewarding those who field self painted teams. I am just bitter that I dropped a point in painting by using my own minis mind (which as far as I could tell met the criteria shite though they were). However, GW say painting has to be counted towards final ranking because it is part of the hobby which they want to encourage, but then there is no benefit for using your own minis. So knowing I'm never going to win a painting trophy what incentive is there for me to keep at it rather than buying a team pro-painted, or borrowing some of Geggster's?
Otherwise another vote for no stars. |
